Firefox Mobile (Fennec) on Nokia N900: Days Away

We have been waiting years, but Mozilla is about to launch its first mobile version of Firefox in just a few short days. Fennec, which is the codename for Firefox Mobile will be launched on the Nokia N900 first with other handsets following shortly after.

The mobile edition of the popular browser is said to be going through final testing and could be launched before the end of the year, this is according to Jay Sullivan at Mozilla. BBC News explains that you will be able to sync Firefox Mobile with your desktop version.

This means that the webpage that is open on your computer will then automatically open on the mobile version. This is perfect as you can walk away from your computer after a hard day at the office, then when at home you can pick up where you left off.

This is done by encrypting all of the information over cloud and then send it to and from your phone and computer. The software which should be available by the end of this year will be available to download from the Mozilla website as well as Nokia’s Ovi Store for the N900, as long as all goes to plan.

Mozilla are also working on a Windows Mobile and Google Android version, but an iPhone version is a long way off. The main problem is how restrictive Apple can be, and they do not look like changing their stance any time soon.
