Apple’s Almost $1 Billion Business: The App Store

Apple’s (NASDAQ:AAPL) App Store may only be a 9-month old creation but its success so far is amazing. The iPhone and iPod application business for Apple could be heading towards the $1 billion mark a year.
An article on Apple Insider explains that the App Store has redefined the Smartphone industry, and just like their iPod, there will be copycats.
They also explain the findings of a report on quarterly Smartphone market trends, which concludes that Apple’s App Store sales are estimated at $203 million for a 3-month period ending December.
This would have the App Store yearly turnover at around $800 million, although this is in no way solid figures.
It’s amazing that popular games like “Pocket God” (one of the top on the App Store at this time) can help generate such a large turnover. This is a lot of downloads considering Pocket God costs under a dollar.
You can view a video review of Pocket God below with some gameplay as well. What do you think of the App Store so far and its success?
