When Apple revealed the 4th generation iPod Touch most people were concerned about the display, camera and capacity, however one thing that went pretty much unnoticed was its impressive battery life.

The new iPod Touch’s battery life is quite staggering, especially when you consider it takes just 2 hours for a fast charge (80%), and 4 hours for a full charge.

A full charge is said to give you 40 hours of audio playback or 7 hours of video playback, you are probably wondering what makes this possible.

Luckily the guys over at ifixit recently disassembled the iPod Touch 4G, you can see the three page teardown here, what struck me the most was the size of the battery, we have embedded a photo below showing its size.

According to ifixit this battery has a capacity of 3.44 watt hours, which combined with iOS 4 gives it superior battery life than one of its biggest competitors the Zune HD.

I do think it is getting to the point where devices such as the iPod Touch has more than enough battery life, do you?

We ae just getting over the hangover from yesterday’s influx of new Apple products, namely the new iPod Touch 4 and Apple TV. But while Apple gloat about their new devices, what have Microsoft been doing? Rumors suggest that they have been secretly plotting a revamp of their very own personal music player.

Strangely enough, we have not heard much from Microsoft lately regarding the Zune HD, and what direction it would be going next. But one thing we can say about it is that it is definitely one of the best digital music players currently on the consumer market.

It looks cool and stylsh, and even the interface and features are sleek along with enough power under the hood to put a big smile on our face. This is a few reasons why we don’t want Microsoft to push the Zune HD aside in the near future, but rumors suggest otherwise with something new on the horizon.

An article over on ZDNet suggests that some sources have told her that a new, remodelled Zune HD is in the works.

While details are scarce, we predict that it would continue in the fashion of Microsoft’s upcoming Windows Phone 7 series while other speculation suggests that an ARM CPU could also be involved.

The new Windows Phone 7 devices are definitely giving out some love to the Zune, and therefore its only certain that we can expect an upgrade in the near future.

Microsoft has confirmed the rumors that leaked earlier on this week, relating to the now-official 64GB version of the Zune HD media player. It might be worth you considering this over the iPod Touch, since its a lot cheaper.

As reported from Pocket-Lint, Microsoft has now made the 64GB official, and the product page for the device can now be seen in all its glory.

As for the price, the 64GB version will set you back $349.99, which is much cheaper than the 64GB iPod Touch which is currently priced at $399.99.

Which one do you think is better? Personally, I think the Zune HD has the slicker interface – it’s just a shame that it is only available in the US at the moment.

We have some good news for those of you planning to pick up a Zune HD media player now, as we have heard rumors that Microsoft could be planning to release a 64GB version of the device.

As reported from Pocket-Lint, this has yet to be announced officially, but a recent screenshot taken from the official Zune HD product page appears to show the listing for the 64GB version.

Interestingly, the web page does not work anymore, perhaps they are updating the website to remove the premature info – just a thought.

Would you buy a 64GB version of the device, or do you already have your mind set on something else? Check out the image below and let us know what you think.

If you are a Zune HD owner you may have been frustrated with the lack of a Facebook application, however at last an application has now been officially launched.

The free application is said to integrate with the Zune HD quite intuitively, this allows you to update your status quickly and simply, not only this but you will also be able to share photos, links and videos.

The application can be downloaded here and is completely reliant on the Zune HD’s WiFi capabilities, you can see a few screens of the application at the end of this post.

Have you used the Zune HD Facebook app? If so, tell us what you think so far in the comments section below.

Microsoft have recently cut the prices of their popular Zune HD portable media players, it is however unclear as to whether or not this change is permanent or just a temporary promotion.

The Zune HD 16GB model is now just $190 on Amazon, whereas the 32GB model is now just $250, prior to this the 16GB model would have cost you $219.99 and the 32GB model would have cost you $289.99.

It is thought that other retailers will follow Amazon’s lead and reduce their prices, Microsoft’s own store has reduced their prices but are $10-$20 more expensive then Amazon.

Currently Apple have their iPod Touch’s at $199 for the 8GB model, $299 for the 32GB model and $399 for the 64GB model. As you can see the price of Microsoft’s 32GB Zune HD is now better value then Apple’s 32GB iPod Touch.

Source: SlipperyBrick

Will better pricing convince you to choose a Zune HD instead of an iPod Touch?

According to a recent article posted on SlashGear it seems that the Zune HD will soon be receiving two notable updates, these updates should arrive in the Spring.

One of these updates will allow more video codec support (MPEG-4 Part 2 ASP and XviD), you will be able to display these video formats on the Zune HD’s display as well as when plugged into an external display.

The feature that will be added is ‘Smart DJ playlists’, this is available on the Zune HD’s PC client-based software, however will soon be on the device itself. This should be a great edition and will bridge one major gap between the iPod Touch and the Zune HD.

All we know so far is that these updates should appear sometime this Spring, as we find out more definite information we will keep you posted.
