The Harlem Shake has taken the world by storm (even NASA) as millions of people try to get in on the action to come up with their own take on the dance craze. We saw the same thing happen last year with Gangnam Style, so was only a matter of time before something new came along.

If you head over to YouTube there are a growing number of videos but what if you want to produce your own one to share or just keep on your iPhone or iPad? Well help is at hand because there are several iOS apps to help you create Harlem Shake videos.

Harlem Shake It! is the first app designed to create your own Harlem Shake video to share on social networks such as YouTube, Facebook and Twitter. This is done in two simple steps, but make certain that you preview your creation before you upload, as you don’t want to look any more stupid than you already do in the video.

Harlem Shake Creator HD is the second iOS app we have chosen and is the original. This one takes 3 steps to produce your masterpiece and what we love about this particular app is how you can use slow motion, although only for two seconds.

Finally we have The Harlem Shake, which is said to be the most popular of all the Harlem Shake iOS apps. According to the developer this app has been downloaded more than one million times, and with version 1.0.1 now out this would be the ideal time to download and get creating.

On the off chance that you have come up with your very own Harlem Shake video we would love to know how many hits, likes or retweets you have managed.

One of our previous favorites had been the Harlem Shake video set on an airplane, of all places, which has seen around 5 million views and took place during a flight to President’s Day ultimate tournament in San Diego. This video received a lot of attention thanks to some calling it a safety concern, although the majority of viewers understood the fun being gained from taking part in this dance trend.

Now the Harlem Shake by NASA – it had to happen and found in the first video below you will see NASA performing the Harlem Shake in the Control Center. This video had been uploaded just a few days ago and only has 26,000 views at the time of writing.

Hit the comments with your thoughts on the Harlem Shake by NASA, Miami HEAT and the airplane stunt. You can watch all three videos below, just in case you haven’t seen them all yet.

Would you like to see the Harlem Shake done in zero gravity next time? If you’re in our app then look for the videos on our website.

We all love to play a joke every now and then but this is normally saved for April fools, although one guy has been featured on YouTube this week thanks to reaching over 15 million views. The video is titled Drive Thru Invisible Driver Prank and currently has 15,640,315 views with more than 125,000 likes. We doubt this person is the first to think about doing this, but he’s the first to do it and upload to YouTube with more than 15m views.

It is not hard to imagine what the video shows, the title gives it away, but basically the guy has made a costume that looks like a cars driver seat. He then takes the car through a “drive thru”, and the viewers get to see reactions to what seems like a car driving on its own. Pure genius.

Our favorite part is when one of the staff shouts “Instagram
That“, which in itself could become another viral hit via Instagram. Have you seen the drive thru invisible driver prank video, and if so what’s your favorite reaction? If you somehow missed this video that went viral this week, then take a look below.

Have you ever tried to make a prank video and upload it to YouTube? We’d also love to hear your ideas for a prank that you think could see success on YouTube. Share your thoughts in the comments.

The PS Vita just got a whole lot better as we’re happy to confirm that the long awaited YouTube app has now arrived on Sony’s new system. After playing around with it for a while – we’re very happy with the experience so far.

The wait may have been a long one, but you will definitely be pleased once you start using the app. Videos in HD look absolutely gorgeous on the 5-inch OLED screen, we couldn’t help but check out a trailer for Avengers in HD just as a tester. The interface is simple and although it doesn’t have all the full features of a desktop version – it works.

The most pleasing aspect of the app, is that videos seem to load very quickly. You can pause movies, go in and out of the app back to the homescreen and continue on with the movie as long as you’ve paused it. What you can’t do though is play movies and games at the same time as the system will ask you to close YouTube first.

The app also works with 3G as well, but obviously it’s not a good idea to burn HD videos constantly if you only have a limited data package. You’ll be pleased to know that you can sign in with your account and continue to like and commment on videos, but there are some limits to what you can do compared to the desktop version of YouTube.

Subscriptions seems to have been replaced by the Recommended tab, but we’ve spotted that the app doesn’t bring up all of your subscriptions – only a selection. Another disappointment is that there are no filtering options when searching, so you can’t check for the latest videos on a particular subject. This may end up being a problem for some, but hopefully Sony are planning on adding these features in a future update.

Another feature we would like to see added is the ability to listen to playlists straight from the app. Right now, you can only select one video at a time, no playlists in sight and there isn’t even a repeat function or automatic ‘play next’ to watch clips back to back. Sure these are not vital features, but they would be well welcomed with PS Vita users in the next update – let’s just hope that Sony are still planning to support the app in the future.

Going back to the video quality though, we can just see ourselves having a session on the PS Vita just purely watching movies in HD. The YouTube app now makes the PS Vita a great tool for enjoying movie trailers when travelling home from work and it is apps like this which Sony need to focus on if they are going to make the handheld unbeatable.

Here’s a tip for those of you who are interested – you can press the PS Vita home key + the start key to take an instant screenshot. The images you see here were taken using that feature and they come out pretty nice you have to say. Overall, we’re very happy with the PS Vita app now that it’s here, but we do hope that Sony is planning to continue support as there are a few areas that could do with some improvements.

Movies only play in 720p as well. They still look nice of course, but would 1080p support be too much to ask for we wonder? If you have been getting to grips with the YouTube app already, let us know your general impressions of it.

It’s the news that PS Vita owners have been waiting to hear about for a very long time. We’re surprised that this wasn’t announced at E3, but just like many other big gaming announcements this week, they are all coming before the actual event has started.

Sony has given PS Vita owners some great news by announcing that an official YouTube app is on the way to the handheld system soon. The device has been crying out for some more apps since launch, but following on from the Skype app things are definitely starting to look up aside from gaming.

Sony has said that the app will be released sometime at the end of June, although there’s no set date yet. It will be a free download from the PlayStation Store and the app will allow you to sign in to your own personal YouTube account and view all of your subscribers videos on the move.

You’ll also be able to comment on videos direct from the Vita, so we’re glad to see that this isn’t a half baked effort and Sony have actually took their time to make sure the wait is worth it. Hopefully Sony has some more surprises in store during their E3 keynote on June 4th, as we kinda hoped we would see some brand new app announcements live at the event.

Now that the likes of YouTube is coming, is it too farfetched an idea to believe that apps like Spotify and Whatsapp will be coming as well in the future? The great thing about the Vita is that anything is possible now and with apps like YouTube and Skype now on board, it may appeal to other consumers who want a secondary use for the device other than just gaming.

What is your reaction to the news that the Vita is finally getting YouTube? What other apps would you like to see in the future?

There is no denying that the way forward for when it comes to brand recognition is social interaction, and Manchester City FC is the first of the Premier League Club teams to realize this, as they have just signed a new deal to go interactive with YouTube. This new content deal sees City having full control of their club-created video or other rights-owned content.

The icing on the cake with this deal is how the football (soccer for American’s) club is able to also manage the advertising on the content shown on YouTube. We find it hard to believe that City is the first to do such a thing, but we cannot see it being too long before others will follow – maybe rivals Manchester United will be next?

Officials for Man City have said that the club has had a fantastic year of growth, and this is just the next step for increasing growth and giving the fans more. Well, those fans already get some great content, but now they will soon have to put up with advertising on the videos that get shown on YouTube – which is not a huge problem.

The Drum has learned that this is the first step in a long line of deals that will take the football club onto another level when it comes to their online activities. What makes this deal even more special, is the way that it will allow the team to grow globally, as YouTube will give them a much greater reach. We would expect their fan base to grow at an alarming rate – something that other Premier League Club teams will not want to miss out on.

Keep up-to-date with all things Manchester City with their official iPhone app.

The news we have been providing about FIFA 12 so far has proved to be nothing but positive, from new features in the game to early reviews. However, even the seemingly perfect games have their flaws and today, courtesy of a YouTube video, we have quite a comical glitch compilation from those that have been found in the FIFA 12 demo, and the video is proving to be extremely popular on the site.

The video was posted onto the online streaming giant’s site just over a week ago and has already clocked up over 1.6 million views. It highlights the problems that players of the demo have discovered with the new Player Impact Engine, another feature in FIFA 12 that had received nothing but praise until now. The video, which can be viewed below, is titled FIFA 12 (demo) Impact Engine Fail Compilation and shows some major flaws, particularly with the revolutionary new feature.

It features football players stumbling through mid-air as if they have just been fouled, which looks like they are somersaulting or rolling around on a floating invisible platform. There is also a part in the video that makes FC Barcelona’s Lionel Messi look like a contortionist as he runs around with one leg bent out so his foot is up by his face. While the images will have some people sniggering, others may be worried about what this means for the full game.

The good news is this footage has come solely from the demo which means that hopefully EA would have had time to iron out these glitches before the full game releases. As CVG explains the developers have been the victims of such a reception before, when they released their NBA Elite 11 demo. The game got such a hammering from those who downloaded it that EA were forced into not releasing it, losing out on competing in a major sports game market.

Check out the YouTube link while you’re checking out this video for more clips of things going wrong in the ultimate football game. What do you think of these glitches? Are you worried that they might feature in the full release?

With all the turmoil and money fears that most of us are facing this year there are not many things that can help take our mind of things. However, viral videos has a knack of making us forget these hardships, which is why we have found what we believe to be the top 3 viral videos in August 2011, much like we did for July.

The three are as follows, Dog tries to bring pool indoors, World-record blob launch and Cutest argument ever. The first is with a dog that looks as though he has had enough of the heat, so brings it upon himself to try to drag the plastic pool from the garden to indoor. What makes it even funnier is that there is still water in the pool and the gap in which he tries to squeeze it though is about half the size it needs to be.

Next up is for you adrenaline junkies, as this sees a group of guys from Switzerland setting a new record for a blob jump. In the video that we have embedded for you below you will see how the blob is launched 17 meters into the air. You can only imagine what is going through the guys mind when he is soaring 17 feet into the air with him getting ever closer to that cold water.

The funniest videos are always made up of kids and animal, so we could not leave out the video where we see two young children having an argument. It’s like watching an old married couple, the girl is having a right go at the boy, but he looks to have it all under control – just look at the way he is leaning on the doorframe.

These are our favorite three viral videos for August 2011, but what are yours?

The power of YouTube is astonishing at times, and has been shown by some of the users that can earn six-figure sums from their popularity, although it takes time for them to build up a following on YouTube. Once these super users have a massive following, the views on each of their videos can be in the millions, which gives them a large amount of power to make videos go viral. Who is your favorite independent YouTube star?

Sgt Scott Moore is a Marine serving in Afghanistan, who took to YouTube in the hope that the power of social media could reach a celebrity. Moore posted a video that asked Mila Kunis to join him to the Marine Corps Ball this November. Mila Kunis, known for her movie roles in the Book of Eli, Max Payne, and Forgetting Sarah Marshall, has accepted the invite after a little help from Justin Timberlake. You can see the video below this article, which shows Moore asking Kunis to the Marine ball.

The story gets more interesting in a second video, and shows how far YouTube can really change people’s lives. The attention was turned to Justin Timberlake after he also got an invite, this time from Corporal Kelsey De Santis. The second video is also below this article, which shows Timberlake being asked if he’ll be going to the ball, which he quickly answers “yes”, although it comes with the condition that he’s “schedule works out to do it”. What do you think about the choices Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis made?

The invitations were a long shot but amazingly got accepted. While we’re sure the power of YouTube had a lot to do with both these stars going to a ball with their fans, it’s also the age old banta that also led to both of them going. Timberlake pushed Kunis, and in return she told Timberlake that he should go and do it for his country.

It’s great that these Marines get this sort of attention, especially with the brave job they do. What are your views on this news, and also the power of YouTube, and other social networking channels?

When it comes to online domination for videos, movies and TV, YouTube and Hulu are at the top of their game. The recent comScore Video Metrix also found that Hulu has almost double the amount of video ads as YouTube in the U.S. The data collected was for the May 2011 period and out of 176 million users they watched an average of 15.9 hours of video each month.

This is a huge number, as it adds up to 5.662 billion viewing sessions for just that one month. This is one reason why we have seen an uptake in the amount of advertising seen before or during a video. The true king of both these services was YouTube, which beat of the likes of VEVO, Yahoo, Facebook and Viacom Digital.

Over the years there have been a number of online video services launched to compete with YouTube, and although they are good and offer an easier service, there seems to be no beating them at the moment. We have to wonder why no one is able to come close, maybe because they have the backing of Google?

Rapid TV News has been looking at the Video Metrix and found that on average users of Google’s video service managed 311 minutes per viewer, but Hulu was not that far behind with 217.8 minutes – not bad when you consider the former has a greater reach.

Now some of you may wonder how people can spend so long watching these videos, I for one am one of them. From time to time I will go on YouTube to search for a funny clip or two, but do not spend all of my spare time looking for hot searches etc. One has to wonder where these people find the time to do this – maybe your neighbor is one of them, and has been the one slowing your Internet connection down?

YouTube has had a two-year headstart on Hulu, with the former being founded in 2005 and the latter in 2007. However, the two are very different in business models. YouTube is a free online video-sharing service, whereas Hulu is a paid over the top subscription service offering content from movie studios.

We expect both services to expand in the coming years, especially as the likes of Samsung Smart TV and other connected TVs include the likes of YouTube and other online video services. How many hours would you say you spend on any of the above?
