Back at the end of June we told you that Microsoft had just revealed both the prices and the release dates of the much-anticipated Xbox Live Summer of Arcade 2011 games. If you read the article you will know that the list included the upcoming Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet shooter game, which is due to launch on XBLA tomorrow (August 3rd).

Judging by some of the early reviews it’s been receiving, it appears that the Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet game has had quite a positive reception from critics. For example, Steve Pendlebury from the gamerant.com website gave the game – which features 2D-scrolling gameplay and seven uniquely different areas to explore – an impressive 4.5 stars out of 5.

Steve says that although the game has just one difficulty setting, it does offer fair balance. The one notable downside to the game in Steve’s opinion is the multiplayer side, which he says isn’t really anything to get too excited about. Meanwhile, Andrew Peggs from the sfx-360.com website gave the game an almost perfect score of 9.6 out of 10.

Andrew describes the game as beautiful and well created, praising not just the graphics but the sound and gameplay as well. Josiah Renaudin from reactiontime.co.uk on the other hand gave the Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet game an overall rating of 9/10. Josiah says that after you’ve completed the 4-6 hour campaign, you could always try the addictive multiplayer mode.

Other than a few control issues and moments of frustration, Josiah says that the game is definitely worth downloading. Another reviewer that was impressed with the game is Giancarlo from vgrevolution.com, who gave it an overall score of nine out of ten. This reviewer says that although the game isn’t difficult, there might be times when you’ll die if you don’t know what to do.

According to Giancarlo, the game features an intriguing style and engaging gameplay, and is lots of fun to play. Meanwhile, Rick Wallace from xxlgaming.com gave the Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet game an overall rating of 87/100. According to this reviewer, the gameplay (6-8 hours worth) is a mixture between action adventure and puzzle.

Rick describes it as a visual masterpiece that has a lot to offer. The final review is from Jamie Davies over at console-arcade.com, who rated it 4/5. Jamie says that although it won’t take you long to complete, there are a few hidden goodies and upgrades that you can search for to stretch the experience out a little longer. Not only is the game fun to play in Jamie’s opinion, but impressive to look at as well.

Twisted Pixel Games’ original Splosion Man game – a 2.5D action platform title exclusive to Xbox Live Arcade – became quite a hit with both gamers and critics when it first launched back in 2009, and was even voted by the XBLA community as the ‘Best Original Xbox Live Arcade Game’ of 2009. Now it looks as though the sequel, Ms. Splosion Man, could well be heading in the same direction.

Although the much-anticipated sequel hasn’t quite made it onto Xbox Live Arcade just yet (due to launch on July 13th), it hasn’t stopped the early reviews from surfacing. If the impressive review scores are anything to go by, then the Ms. Splosion Man game is definitely worth downloading. In fact, a couple of gaming websites even gave it a perfect or almost perfect score.

For example, Daemon Hatfield from IGN gave the game an overall score of 9.0/10, describing it as an excellent and thrilling platformer. According to this reviewer, the Ms. Splosion Man game is bigger, harder and faster than the original. Daemon says that although he wasn’t too keen on the look of the world maps, the levels themselves are colourful with plenty of personality.

Meanwhile, Terry Terrones from the gamepro.com website gave the Ms. Splosion Man game a perfect rating of 5 out of 5 stars. Not only does the game provide 50 single player stages to complete, it also offers 50 co-op stages, unlockables and even ghost replays. The most enjoyable part of the game in Terry’s opinion is the sense of humor, with most of the laughs coming from Ms. Splosion Man’s dialogue.

Nick Chester from destructoid.com on the other hand gave the Ms. Splosion Man game an almost perfect score of 9.5/10. Nick notes that although some areas can become slightly frustrating, nothing really feels impossible. According to this reviewer, the Ms. Splosion Man game is a step up in every aspect from the 2009 original.

Another impressive review score comes from Charles Tyldsley over at game-pad.net, who gave the game an overall rating of 8.2 out of 10. A welcome addition to the game in Charles’ opinion is ‘The Mall,’ where players can spend their gold – earned through completing levels – on various unlockables such as concept art, avatar items and even a new mode.

Charles also praises the game for its multiplayer, which enables up to 4 players to enjoy the game either locally or online. The final review comes from MrB4 over at tqcast.com, who gave it an overall score of 4.5 out of 10. This reviewer says that although the game can be rather frustrating at times, it still stands out as one of the premier downloadable titles on Xbox Live Arcade.

If you are a fan of Spike Games’ original Deadliest Warrior: The game (based on the Spike TV series of the same name), then you’re most likely looking forward to the arrival of its sequel Deadliest Warrior: Legends, which is due to arrive on Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network this summer.

However, some of you may be wondering what exactly the sequel offers that its predecessor didn’t, and whether or not it will live up to the gory reputation of the original. Well according to Riley Little over at gamerant.com, the Deadliest Warrior: Legends game features many new and exciting features.

As you can maybe tell by the title, the Deadliest Warrior: Legends game features some of the legendary warriors that have battled it out on the actual TV show. Players will now be able to watch famous warriors such as Shaka Zulu, Alexander the Great and William Wallace battle it out with each other.

The Deadliest Warrior: Legends game has received a number of notable improvements including a graphics upgrade, and a considerable increase to the gore (just in case the gore in the first game wasn’t enough for you). In fact, gamers will now have the ability to cut their opponents in half.

Levels have also received an upgrade and now come with hazards such as pits, which players can unfortunately be pushed in to. The game has also been given a new ‘Generals’ mode, where players begin with a territory on the in-game map. Players must then start taking over the different areas of the map.

You can read more about the Deadliest Warrior: Legends game and watch a new trailer via the gamerant.com link. Do you think you will be downloading this game?

If you own a PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360 and you’re a fan of the Warhammer 40,000 games, then I think we have some news that you may not want to miss. Video game publisher THQ has just announced a brand new downloadable game called Warhammer 40k Kill Team.

As Wesley Yin-Poole over at eurogamer.net recently noted, the Warhammer 40k Kill team game – described as a fast-paced third-person arcade shooter – is due to be released on the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade sometime in July, for $9.99 / 800 Microsoft Points.

The Warhammer 40,000 Kill Team game sees players take on the role of a Space Marine team that’s been sent to attack and Ork Kroozer that is on its way to an Imperial Forge World. The game comes with a unique weapon unlock for the upcoming Warhammer 40k: Space Marine title.

Those who complete the first mission in the Kill Team game unlock the Power Sword for use in the multiplayer side of Space Marine. There are four different classes to choose from in the Warhammer 40k Kill Team game, including the Techmarine, Sternguard Veteran, Librarian and Vanguard Veteran.

It also features two-player same screen co-op, upgradeable weapons and six ‘iconic’ Space Marine chapters to choose from. You can view a trailer for the upcoming Warhammer 40,000 Kill Team game via the eurogamer.net website. Will you download this game?

We have some interesting news now for those of you that enjoy playing physics-based puzzle games, as both Zoo Entertainment and video game developer Eko Software have just announced their plans to launch the new Storm game for Xbox Live Arcade, PlayStation Network and PC.

As Yogev over on the nextgn.com website recently noted, the upcoming Storm game sees players controlling the weather in order to grow seeds into trees. This is done by guiding the seeds though a number of nature-themed levels that are set to tranquil background music.

Players are able to solve puzzles, simply by manipulating the weather elements. However, conjured weather can either help or hinder players in their journey. Seeds can be transported past obstacles with bolts of lightning, torrential downpours or even with gusts of wind.

The physics-based puzzle game features a total of 49 levels, with players being able to use three main weather elements (wind, rain and lightning) and four secondary elements (tornadoes, bubbles, snow and ice) to maneuver five different types of seeds in each of the four seasons.

Each level can be played in three different game modes: spirit, adventure and challenge. Spirit mode comes with special orbs that are placed around levels for players to collect, while Challenge mode sees players finishing unlocked levels to beat completion times and raise their scores.

Meanwhile, the Adventure mode enables untimed play though to unlock levels and progress through the game. You can view a trailer for the upcoming Storm game via the nextgn.com website. Do you like the sound of Storm?

As Sal Romano over on the scrawlfx.com website recently noted, Awesomenauts – which will be heading to both PSN and XBLA at some stage – is a brand new ‘Multiplayer Online Battle Arena (MOBA)’ game that is said to be inspired by 1980’s animation.

The Awesomenauts game sees a group of mercenaries battling it out against invading forces, in a war for territorial supremacy. The game combines modern online multiplayer with classic platforming action, and features giant robots, Russian monkeys with jetpacks and a number of other alien creatures.

According to Jasper Koning, the co-founder of Ronimo Games, the company will be revealing more details at this year’s E3 (Electronic Entertainment Expo) event. You can check out the very first set of screenshots for the upcoming Awesomenauts game via the scrawlfx.com website.

Will you be looking out for more details on the Awesomenauts game?

There may well be a few months to go yet before the much-anticipated Batman: Arkham City game finally makes its way into stores worldwide, but it looks like there may be some other good news for Batman fans. It seems that Warner Bros has just announced the new Gotham City Imposters game.

What’s Gotham City Imposters I hear you ask? Well according to a recent article by Anthony Taormina over at gamerant.com, Gotham City Imposters is a new downloadable FPS that’s coming to XBLA and PSN. Although we don’t know when, as a release date has not yet been mentioned.

What we do know however is that the game – which will be set within the DC Comics Universe – will allow players to create their very own imposters of either Batman or his arch enemy, The Joker. We also know that players will be provided with a wide variety of customization options for their characters.

Players will be able to change everything from their character’s look, to the types of gadgets and weapons they will use. Some of the gadgets that have been revealed for the upcoming Gotham City Imposters title include roller skates, a grapple gun and some sort of glider equipment.

Do you like the idea of the Gotham City Imposters game?

We have some rather disappointing news now for those of you that were waiting for the Hybrid video game to arrive at some point this year, as the developer 5th Cell has recently announced that the XBLA shooter’s release date has now been delayed until sometime in 2012.

According to JC Fletcher over at joystiq.com, Jeremiah Slaczka – the creative director – explained the reason for the unfortunately delay by saying that with an additional year, the company can take what they have learned and hopefully create the highest quality game possible.

The Hybrid video game – which is both created and developed by 5th Cell, the team behind games such as Drawn to Life and Scribblenauts – is a third person shooter that takes place in a post-apocalyptic world amidst a war between two factions – the Variant and the Paladin.

Gamers will conquer territories in 3 versus 3 online battles. The game – which utilizes the Source Engine – will feature rich, detailed environments and multiple customizable weapons, abilities and armor. It also includes innovative gameplay mechanics such as combat-focused movement.

You can learn more about the game over on the whatishybrid.com website. Were you hoping for the Hybrid game to be released this year?

We have more good news for SEGA Rally fans, as we’ve just discovered that the XBLA release date has now been revealed.

According to a recent eurogamer.net article by Fred Dutton, the SEGA Rally online Arcade game is coming to Xbox Live Arcade on May 18th, so you really don’t have too long to wait. Although the upcoming game is also heading to the PS3, a PSN release date was unfortunately not mentioned.

As recently noted over on Major Nelson’s blog, the SEGA Rally Online Arcade game will set you back 800 Microsoft Points. The upcoming downloadable title is said to be a combination of the 2007 console game SEGA Rally, and its arcade machine counterpart.

SEGA Rally Online Arcade will see the return of the Time Attack and Championship Battle modes, as well as a brand new online mode that will enable gamers to race against up to five other drivers. The game will also feature 13 different cars, online leaderboards and a new achievement system.
