We have some good news for Xbox 360 users now, as some new leaked information has confirmed that Microsoft are once again planning to update the Xbox 360 dashboard later on this month, adding new features and functionality.

According to the information obtained by Joystiq, the update will be rolling out starting from Thursday May 19th, and will continue on until May 30th across all regions. The update seems to be a direct counter attack to recent attacks by hackers on the Sony PlayStation 3, as the report states that the update will bring a brand new disc format known as XGD3, which is an anti-piracy measure designed to beef up security on the console.

Furthermore, we’re also hearing that the new update will add support for Paypal for all Xbox 360 users when buying content from the Xbox 360 Marketplace. The company are obviously aware of the damage that hackers have done to PS3 users, i.e obtaining credit card information and subsequently publishing details online, so the introduction of Paypal will be a welcome addition for users we feel.

Dare we say it, but should similar credit card security protection have been used to secure PS3 credit card info by a trusted company such as Paypal? You could argue that if they did already have such measures in place, it would have made life much more difficult for hackers to obtain.

The PlayStation Network is still offline as we speak, as Sony has now stated that they hope to get the service back online by May 31st. Xbox 360 users on the other hand can look forward to this security update soon. Let us know your thoughts on this.

Up until now, no one really knew when the dashboard update was actually being released. However, according to Stephany Nunneley at vg247.com, a release date of November 4th has now been announced.

As well as a release date, Microsoft has provided details of the additions and improvements that Xbox 360 gamers can expect from the update such as improved voice quality and a much better Xbox Live Marketplace UI.

There will also be Avatar proportion changes for playing Kinect and a re-designed virtual Keyboard. You can read more at vg247.com.

We have some good news for Xbox 360 owners now, as we can confirm that an update to the Xbox 360 dashboard is on the way soon. We have a image preview to show you now, giving you an idea on how the changes will look on release.

According to this report from Joystiq, Microsoft are expected to release the new dashboard update sometime in November this year. The screenshots originated from French website Logic-Sunrise, but were since taken down after Microsoft’s request.

If you want to get a sneak peek at how the update will look, you can see an image of the homepage over at Joystiq. New changes include a horizontal layout compared to the current slanted layout, and other menu changes which will relate to the release of Kinect, also in November.

What are your thoughts on the changes? Do you prefer the new horizontal interface or not?

Following on from our previous article which told you about the latest Xbox 360 update and its hidden features, we are hearing numerous reports that hackers have already gained access to the system files.

As reported from Xboxic, Xbox 360-system files are unreadable when using USB flash drives at the moment, but a group of modders have bypassed the encryption of these files and are now aiming to create a program that extracts the content to a PC desktop.

Xboxic points out, that once the program becomes public, it could lead to sharing gamesaves and the modification of gamerpics and themes. There is a screenshot up at Xboxic which shows the current progress of the exploit.

What are your thoughts on this? We expect Microsoft are working working on a patch to combat this.

How are you finding the latest update to the Xbox 360 console? You’ll already know that the update adds support for USB flash drives, but did you know that there is also a feature which seems to have slipped under the radar?

As reported from TheLostGamer, the update will also allow you to transfer multiple files to the flash drive, by using the new ”multi-select” option that is now available.

To make use of this feature, select your device on the Memory screen, then press Y to access the Transfer Content menu.

For those of you wishing to transfer tons of data in one go, this will surely make the process a lot quicker. You’ll find full details on the update in the link above.

Have you used the multi-select feature yet?
