After Apple showed off their new MacBook Pro, iOS 6 and many other delights at WWDC 2012, there has still been considerable talk on the fact that we didn’t see the next-generation iPhone. However, some skeptics are pondering whether Apple did in actual fact give a glimpse of the iPhone 5 at the event which went completely unnoticed.

If you tuned into a live blog, there’s a good chance that you will remember the portion about Siri support being integrated into cars with the use of a physical button. During the event, Apple showed an image of how this will work, and some whispers have begun online that the iPhone seen in the picture could be the next iPhone.

The reasons behind this, is that it appears to the eye that this is a ‘taller’ iPhone than the iPhone 4S, but in reality it is probably just a stretched out iPhone 4S which isn’t proportion. We would find it very hard to believe that Apple would deliberately plant their next-generation iPhone into an image just like that, but if they have then consider us impressed.

If you see the image above, you’ll may also question why the FaceTime camera is still in the same position. This is due to continued rumors suggesting that Apple will switch the FaceTime camera to the top center of the front casing. We also find it very hard to believe that Apple would waste so much white space at the bottom of the device as seen in the image, so again that is another reason why we think this image has just been stretched out.

What are your thoughts on this? Has Apple planted the mother of all easter eggs at WWDC 2012, or did they just photoshop an iPhone 4S and stretch it out a bit for illustration purposes?

So now that you have been set up with various live blogs for Apple’s imminent WWDC 2012 event, the only thing left to do is to get excited and mull over what Apple will be announcing and showcasing in San Francisco.

Thanks to numerous pictures that have been taken of the Moscone Center building, we now know for sure that Apple will use WWDC 2012 to unveil iOS 6 to the world for the first time. This may come as a surprise to some of you since we’re only on version 5.1.1 of the current software, but Apple obviously has some big things to show off that warrant taking iOS all the way up to the big 6.0.

So what can we expect to see from iOS 6? One thing that is very likely to come with a major new version, is some visual enhancements to the general UI when browsing through apps and menus. Thanks to an early peek at Apple’s new upcoming 3D maps app, we may see Apple use the color silver to decorate their iOS 6 interface, with the navigation bar at the top the main candidate to change from its iOS 5.xx appearance.

As mentioned above, iOS 6 will definitely include a new maps app and this time it is an effort from Apple themselves meaning that there will no longer be any evidence of Google Maps inside an Apple device. We told you in a previous article here that Apple’s maps app will include 3D layouts of maps, thanks to the help of C3 technologies that Apple recently acquired.

Another major whisper coming out from several Apple ninjas is that iOS 6 will finally see a partnership emerge between Apple and Facebook. The new software will fully integrate Zuckerberg’s social networking website, meaning that users will now have the option of uploading media straight to Facebook, along with Twitter which is the current option.

Since Apple touted ‘hundreds of new features’ when they first launched iOS 5, we have a feeling that the features list for iOS 6 may be just as big, if not bigger. It’s hard to say what features will be shown since iOS 6 has seemingly come out of nowhere, but we really hope that Apple is finally planning to add automatic updates as a universal feature across all iOS devices. Automatic updates would be a great addition, while some live wallpapers like the ones seen on the Samsung Galaxy S III would be great as well.

With just hours to go until the start of the event at 10am PT – are you getting excited about iOS 6? Let us know what features you would like to see announced at the event. Is automatic app updates a priority for you as well?

It is that time again for Apple lovers across the globe. After months and months of speculation, Apple will finally take to the stage at WWDC 2012 and unveil their latest and hopefully greatest products that will steer the company through the year and into 2013.

Will you be tuning into the action live though? For those that are not already aware, Apple’s keynote at the Moscone Center in San Francisco will be starting today at 10am Pacific Time. That’s 1pm for those of you on Eastern Time, 6pm for our readers in the UK and 1am for those of you in Hong Kong.

As usual, Apple will not be providing a live stream of the event. You can expect to see a video of the conference on the Apple website in a few days time, but in the meantime a live blog is your best alternative of tuning into the action live. We have rounded up a series of live blogs for you, making it easy for you to just click the website of your choice and watch live when the event begins.

One guaranteed highlight of the event will be iOS 6, but we hope that Apple has managed to keep a few of their reveals secret. A new iPhone is obviously a bit of a long shot however, with a separate event in Fall this year much more a likely destination and in line with the previous release pattern for the iPhone 4S.

A new MacBook Pro refresh is obviously a big contender as well, one which may be equipped with a Retina Display, Ivy Bridge processors and high-end NVIDIA graphics. If recent whispers are to believed, Siri is also coming to the iPad – let’s hope it includes all models though, not just the 3rd generation model.

Will you be tuning in to Apple’s WWDC 2012 conference, or will you find the Euro 2012 football championships more appealing? Now there’s a question for you. Below are some of the live blog links that will go live in a few hours time.

The next version of iOS is expected to be unveiled at WWDC 2012, along with Apple’s latest refresh of MacBook Pro laptops. Details on what kind of new features will be included with iOS 6 are very sparse at the moment, but it looks like one main feature has now been revealed, just before Apple’s keynote.

It’s no secret that Apple has been toying with the idea of providing their own mapping service on the iPhone and iPad, so they wouldn’t need to rely on Google Maps any more. We first told you about this back in November last year, as Apple had successfully acquired the services of Swedish company C3 Technologies, who specialize in 3D mapping solutions.

Several months on and it looks like Apple may be preparing to show off their new software at WWDC 2012. Packaged within iOS 6, Apple’s new iOS maps application will provide fully rendered maps in 3D of locations around the world, complete with direction assistance similar to that seen in Google Maps today.

Like Google Maps, Apple’s maps app will feature a location button allowing you to pinpoint your whereabouts in an instant, while there will also be a 3D button which will transfer 2D maps into 3D renders in a matter of seconds. BGR has apparently acquired some very rough looking images of what they are saying is Apple’s new map app in action, while their main picture provides a render of how 3D mapping will look like once Apple officially announces it.

3D mapping is obviously a nice addition to iOS 6 if true, but we would rather see some main interface changes first as a priority. Google Maps currently works great and Google’s 2D maps gets the done job 90% of the time. The addition of Street View when searching is extremely useful as well, so we hope that Apple’s new 3D features will offer the same level of detail that Street View does, otherwise this may not be a replacement that everyone will like. We certainly haven’t seen an Apple car roaming around the streets taking photos, have you?

Would you like to see more interface changes to iOS 6 from iOS 5.1.1, rather than a 3D maps upgrade from Apple as well? Let us know what you are expecting to see with Apple’s next version of iOS.

A lot of people are expecting the next iPhone to come with a quad-core processor as a minimum requirement. One area that is still up for debate though is display screen size. Should Apple stick with their winning 3.5-inch formula or experiment with a new display screen size closer to the 4-inch standard that we see today?

As you can imagine, there is divided opinion over this. Obviously the current crop of Android handsets all surpass the 4-inch range and many Apple fans would love to see an iPhone which offers a much bigger display to suit their multimedia viewing needs.

On the other hand, Apple has stayed true to a 3.5-inch diagonal display screen on every single iPhone released, including the original, so perhaps their priority is not about the size of the display screen, but improved performance and usability instead. That hasn’t stopped the 4-inch iPhone rumors though from coming out on an almost daily basis.

This week we have heard the latest whispers from 9to5Mac that Apple’s next generation iPhone will be a 3.99-inch effort, with a new resolution of 1136×640 pixels. What’s interesting is that the width of the iPhone is set to stay at 1.9632 inches, meaning there’s still no edge to edge display. However, we may be seeing a display which increases the height of the display to 3.484 inches tall. The new resolution is also thought to be very close to a 16:9 screen ratio, which may be excellent news for those of you who enjoy watching media in this format.

A picture showing a mock up of the new iPhone’s display has been provided below, courtesy of Niilo Autio. As you can see it looks noticeably different to the iPhone 4S, but still pretty sexy in our opinion. It’s not the 4.xx-inch display or edge to edge screen that you may have wanted, but it’s still a bigger screen and it looks rather nice.

Would you have any objections if the next iPhone looked like this? Watching full screen 16:9 movies on the iPhone is a great prospect to look forward to, so let’s hope that Apple is planning to reveal more details at WWDC 2012.
