Apple iCloud was finally unveiled today at WWDC 2011, now we can confirm some interesting details regarding the new iOS feature and there’s a lot to get through.

Let’s start with MobileMe and iCloud pricing, iCloud storage will cost you nothing and will pretty much replace MobileMe, if you use MobileMe you will be able to access everything until June 30, 2012 but after then MobileMe will be no more, comments on Engadget suggest that people who have already renewed their subscriptions will get refunds.

You can see full details regarding iCloud on Apple’s official website, you get 5GB of storage and what’s great about this online storage solution is that it does everything wirelessly in the background, this means that syncing your personal data with the cloud is effortless and should be very reliable.

iCloud can be configured to suit your needs and an API will allow developers to reap the benefits associated with cloud storage for their apps, you can choose iOS to carry out automatically daily backups to iCloud over WiFi, this can backup purchased music, books, apps, app data, device settings and captured photos and videos.

What impressed us the most is something Apple call Documents in the Cloud, when using new versions of Pages, Numbers and Keynote data is automatically pushed to the cloud, this means that it is instantly accessible no-matter which Apple device you are using.

Finally we can squash a rumor which was doing the rounds, we heard that Apple may make iCloud ad supported, this is not the case, however it looks like if 5GB of storage is not enough for you, you will have to pay for more. Also if you want all of your iTunes library to automatically populate to the Cloud so that it is available on your Apple devices you have to pay $25 a year, you can find out more about iTunes Match here.

Will 5GB of data be enough for you?

As expected, Apple unveiled Mac OS X Lion to the world at WWDC 2011, promising a vast array of new features, gesture controls and added functionality for users to enjoy.

After we have listened to all what the Apple CEO has had to say today we thought you would want to know where to watch Steve Jobs WWDC 2011 keynote post-event video. We have done some searching and found the past five events – some of them were from other events, but these are their most recent.

The first goes back to April 2010 and is the Apple iPhone OS 4 Event. This video gave us a little insight into what the future iPhone iOS was going to offer us. The second video is from June 2010, and was the WWDC keynote for that year. We can remember that we were treated to another peak at iOS 4 and when we would be able to download it.

Also Steve Jobs gave us all the details of the iPhone 4, which had already been leaked much earlier to us. The next video for your viewing pleasure is for the new Apple TV, iPod and iTunes 10. We can still remember how shocked we all were when we saw how small the Apple TV was.

Then in October 2010 Apple treated us to a new MacBook Air, iLife and much more. This Air refresh was certainly nice to see, but never had the CPU upgrade that we were all hoping for. The final video at the moment is from March 2011 when Apple’s CEO showed to the world the new iPad 2.

The WWDC 2011 keynote will be here some time after the event, so keep coming back to see when.

The moment all Apple fans and technology geeks alike have been waiting for is almost upon us and the coverage of WWDC 2011 so far has been immense before it’s even started. We previously brought you news of the various live blogs that are available on the net for those that wish to know what’s happening at the conference live.

It kicks off in less than an hour and from the coverage provided by Engadget and their live blog we can see the queue outside the venue in San Francisco where the event will take place, is an insane line that has apparently been formed for hours already.

All those in the queue, which you can see in the image below will be eager to find out what Apple has up their sleeve and will have the satisfaction of being one of several thousand people to be at the event where these events are unraveled.

We already have an idea of what to expect from the event as the company unveiled their agenda last week which we previously brought to your attention. This does not mean there won’t be a few unannounced details to be showcased. This is what the experience of actually being at a conference like this is all about, witnessing the events exclusively.

What do you think of the coverage so far? Will you be watching the WWDC 2011 conference live?

Leading up to today’s WWDC event we have heard a lot of news about Apple’s plans for a music streaming service. Now we have news that Apple receives iCloud complaint before WWDC 2011 even starts.

According to an article on The Local, a German music streaming site has lodged an anti-trust claim against Apple. The company Simfy who are based in Cologne which offer a service that is similar to Spotify, are complaining that Apple are preventing Simfy’s iPad app from hitting the App Store to protect its own iCloud service.

CEO of Simfy Gerrit Schumann said “We have always considered Apple an important partner, but it is unacceptable for Apple to be able to control the market in this way.” He went on to say that its customers are unhappy there is no app for the iPad, and even though the company are fans of Apple’s products they can’t understand why their app seems to have been blocked.

The company claims to have been waiting for 15 weeks since it first sent the app to Apple for approval, and the process usually takes no longer than three weeks. An iPhone version of the app was approved in around seven days previously. At the time of writing an Apple spokesperson could not be reached in Germany.

Do you think Apple would intentionally hold back an application to suit its own needs?

There are some people who have now started to wonder why Apple is not attending both E3 and WWDC 2011? The reason for this is because Apple’s iOS is considered to be as popular as the Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii joined. You may wonder what this means; well the mobile gaming market is dominated by the iPhone, iPad and the iPod Touch. So how come they are not making themselves known at more gaming trade shows?

No longer can we say that games on devices such as the iPhone are a joke, as you only have to look at the success of Angry Birds to see that this is not the case any more. Before, the big boys in the portable gaming market were Sony with their PSP and Nintendo with the DS, but these iOS devices are proving that they are now a dying bread.

CNET Reviews makes a point of the fact that finding iOS games at E3 is very hard. This is very confusing, as we know that some of the big developers have iOS version of their PS3 and Xbox 360 games. OK, so we know that these games needs some improvements, and you would assume that the developers will have to take them seriously soon.

While it would be one in the eye if Apple were to attend an E3 event, for now we just hope that developers like EA will become an ambassador for iOS and start to make more of an effort. Having said all that, we cannot get away from the fact that Apple has never taken gaming serious – you only need to look at Mac OS to know just what we are talking about.

With just over an hour to go before Steve Jobs takes to the stage we thought that an insight into Apple’s vision for their WWDC 2011 keynote was needed. They have a number of products and services on the market, along with new ones being announced today, but how do they fit into their market plan? Some make more sense than others, so which stands out for you?

The first two are the most obvious, and that is iOS 5 and Mac OS X Lion. Now we are almost 100 percent certain that Apple will be talking about these operating systems, as they are due for a radical change, which we previously discussed. They need something different if they still want to stay ahead of the game, and iCloud will surely play a major part.

FaceTime is another, it is not used as much as Apple would like, as they would like it to become an industry standard. Really cannot see this happening, as similar services have been out for much longer. Today we could witness the slow death of MobileMe, as we know that iCloud will slowly take over this service.

AirPort devices could be refreshed today; well Apple needs to offer some new hardware today. Although this will be a bit of an anticlimax, as we all still hope that Apple will announce a new iPhone or even a MacBook Air refresh. We cannot say for certain where Apple is heading in 2011 and onwards, but we know that it will be more Cloud based – something that Steve Jobs envisaged many years ago.

What do you think Apple’s plans are for the future?

There have been a number of phony WWDC 2011 live video stream claims, which we reported the other day but the one that Engadget is offering is one with a difference. They will not be showing a live video stream from the event itself, instead it will be of two extra broadcasts to offer extra analysis. This does make sense, as there are always a ton of questions that need answering after Steve Jobs and his colleges have delivered their keynotes.

This extra analysis will begin at 7:30am PDT, which is two and a half hours before Steve Jobs is due to come to the stage. We are not certain how long Engadget will be broadcasting for, but we know it will bebefore and after the keynote. This will not only give them time to talk about expectations, but also what they thought of the new services.

The first live broadcast will be with Tim and Darren talking all about iCloud, iOS 5, and Mac OS X Lion. Then they will give it a little time and then come back on, and with a bit of luck discus what surprises Jobs announced – although we would not hold our breaths.

We are still holding out for a surprise announcement of the iPhone 5; we know it is a long shot, but this would certainly be the best time to do so. Never before has the iPhone had so much publicity, as we all assume that one will not be there today. Who are we kidding, but it is nice to dream right? See the extra analysis over on Engadget. Will you be watching this extra coverage of WWDC 2011?
