Before WWDC 2010 we had assumed that Steve Jobs would announce more devices than he did, so what was missing from that keynote? Apple TV, Magic trackpad, iTune Cloud, Mac Mini, MacBook Air and the biggest letdown – a Verizon version of the iPhone 4.

Ben Patterson from Yahoo News has written a detailed article looking at all those devices that were missing. The first was Apple TV, we were expecting two things here, an upgrade to iPhone OS, which is now called iOS 4 and a reduced price of $99 – both never happened.

We wrote an article yesterday looking into the possibility that Jobs would announce iTunes in the cloud – again this never happened. This is a shame as other services have been offering this feature for some time now; Apple will have to play catch-up if they leave it any longer.

We mentioned the Magic Trackpad yesterday; we knew that this was coming and assumed that it would have made an appearance during the Worldwide Developers Conference. We also assumed that the Mac Mini and MacBook Air would have seen upgrades. We now fear that Apple could start to phase the Air out.

Finally and most importantly was the Verizon iPhone no show. Every year we work ourselves up to the prospect of the iPhone being made available to Verizon Wireless customers, and every year Jobs lets us down – its as if he does not care about the constant Android threat.

Were you disappointed with what was missing from WWDC 2010?

We have some good news for Netflix fans now, as company CEO Reed Hastings has just announced that a Netflix application is on the way to the iPhone. It will be available tsometime this Summer.

As reported from MacRumors, Hastings revealed the news during Apple’s WWDC event in San Francisco. You’ll be pleased to know that movies wcan be stopped on one device and then resumed on another another – very neat.

Hastings also added that the iPhone application will feature all the same functionality that you see on Netflix.com, which includes instant queues and recommendations.

Attendees at WWDC were also given a glimpse on how the search function works on the app, while users will also be able to seamlessly switch between networks on the go, using bitrate technology.

We’ll have a full review of the iPhone Netflix app soon. Give us your reaction to the news.

We all know how popular iTunes is, which has been made even more popular due to the iPhone – so much so that they are now the largest music retailer in the world. Something new is on the horizon – Live stream of music anywhere, something that could change the music industry yet again. Apple will have to try and keep ahead of the game – maybe the WWDC 2010 keynote will cover this.

This involves music sent directly to devices via the Internet instead of the need to plug your portable music device into a computer, which iTunes still requires you to do. Services such as Rhapsody and Spotify already use music streaming so this has to be the perfect time for iTunes to offer the same – although users will have to pay a monthly fee, something that they may not be too happy about.

Apple purchased Lala.com in 2009, so we know that they are planning something – we just do not know when. The idea of having your iTunes library available to you is something that appeals to us, we just do not understand why they are dragging their heals.

An article in Stylish First points out that Steve Jobs was asked about this during his recent D8 interview, he replied, There’s a lot of things we’re working on.” So we could here something announced at WWDC 2010 after all.

As most of you will be aware by now, we are just moments away from Steve Job’s keynote speech at this year’s WWDC event at the Moscone Center in San Francisco. For all you gaming fans out there, are you pumped up for WWDC or are you waiting for E3 in a few weeks time?

Apple are widely expected to finally unveil the next generation iPhone to the world, as well as finalize their plans for iPhone OS 4.0. The company are also expected to detail some products, although these are still billed as ‘rumors’ – read more about them here.

With the amount of hype generated for the event, mostly due to the iPhone 4G prototype saga, we wonder if Apple’s WWDC event will entice some consumers who wouldn’t usually tune in.

As a gaming fan, I am more looking forward to E3 2010 and seeing what the likes of Project Natal can do, but then again, thanks to all the recent iPhone 4G leaks – WWDC 2010 has got me equally as excited as E3.

Where do your priorities stand? WWDC or E3 2010?

One way is to watch the keynote videos which are uploaded by Apple on their site.

Since Apple released the first-generation iPod and iPhone they have seen their share prices rocket, this has opened peoples eyes to “the Apple way”, which has resulted in Apple Mac desktops and Macbooks becoming a serious competitor Windows-based computers.

A huge part of their success is down to their closed system strategy, this directly apposes the open system which platforms such as Google Android have chosen to back.

There are pros and cons associated with both systems, however Apple’s closed system ensures that they have control over software which runs on devices such as the iPhone, this means that they get to quality check all software, to make it is up to their standard.

If they didn’t have their application approval system there is no doubt that the iPhone’s performance, security and reliability would suffer, an application could perhaps drain battery life, open up a security hole or cause the handset to freeze.

Whilst the iPhone users with greater technical knowledge will know that it is infact a third-party application fault causing problems, less knowledgeable iPhone owners will simply blame the iPhone.

This is one reason why Apple have chosen to snub Adobe Flash, they believe that Flash is poorly written, insecure and a drain on battery life, therefore they have decided to back HTML5 instead. Over the last year or so there have been quite a few Flash-related bugs/exploits etc, so I can understand Apple’s reasoning.

The only question is whether Apple’s governed closed system could perhaps be it’s downfall in the long-run, at the moment this doesn’t seem to be the case, however open systems allow developers around the world to fully unlock the potential of devices.

Do you think the iPhone would be a better handset if it was completely open?

With WWDC 2010 just a few hours away we are more than aware that thousands, if not millions of people will be following dedicated liveblogs of the event, however there is nothing quite like watching Apple’s keynotes in all of their glory.

Luckily Apple always upload their keynote videos on their site, simply subscribe to this RSS feed, if you are unfamiliar with RSS feeds just load the page shortly later today and I’m sure Apple will have added some WWDC 2010 videos.

If you checked out the link mentioned above you will see that Apple have posted MP4 videos following all of their latest creations, such as when they revealed the iPad in January 2010, and last year’s WWDC, where they revealed the iPhone 3GS.

It is unclear what time Apple will add the video, however we expect that it will probably appear an hour or so after the event, I will be checking the RSS feed, therefore when I notice it is added I will write a short post linking you to the video download.

WWDC 2010 kicks off in less than three hours time and already the Internet is alive with all sorts of news, we can even see streams of live debates, which is where some of the most interesting information comes from. We all know what we hope to expect from the event, but the likes of Gizmodo will have to use this information as their request to attend was turned down, which you can read more about in our recent post.

So let us take a look at some of the latest stuff coming from these live debates. One of the most recent has to be one of the funniest, saying “Holy crap this line is long”, while another saying that on the same day in 1975 Sony started selling the betamax.

Tweets have started to come in that they have started to enter Moscone, now they are just waiting for the keynote. Many people are just exited to know what Steve Jobs will announce at today’s keynote – we all know what we want, the question is when will it be released?

The strange thing is, no one seems to be talking about any other device launch, just the iPhone HD / 4G. Let us not forget that we could also see an update to the Mac Mini and the MacBook Air.

See more from Live Debate Streams here

What do you expect from WWDC 2010?

We are still hours away from the start of WWDC 2010 Keynote and already the line outside Moscone West in San Francisco is already around the building. People have already started to camp out with chairs and their MacBooks in the build up to the event, you can see an example of this in the image here. The event has already sold out, but they have been queuing up to get in the doors before others begin to arrive.

Twitter has been going crazy, as those waiting in line have been sending tweets about what is going on. Most of them are saying standing or sitting in the line, while others are saying that they should not worry where they are in line as there is more than enough space in the center for all who attend to move around.

A number of those in line have noticed how the AT&T network has started to feel the strain ahead of the Worldwide Developers conference, some stating that they may not be able to send any more images through the cell phone carrier.

An update has come in that the line stretches three and a half times round the building already – we wonder is this is the busiest WWDC event yet?

For those of you in line please let us know your experiences as you wait around for the doors to open.

We expect that the new iPhone will be top of your wish lists after WWDC 2010, as Apple are expected to announce release availability for the upcoming device – although we may not get prices straight away.
