If you were hoping to one day utilize your World of Warcraft subscription on a mobile device, Blizzard has given their strongest indication yet that this could be a real possibility for the future.

Although the game remains PC based-only, Blizzard has revealed in a recent interview that bringing the game to a mobile device, specifically mentioning the Apple iPhone, could be in the pipeline in months to come.

Obviously there are considerable barriers to overcome in making this possible – notably the RAM limitations on the iPhone and the fact that the device has no physical buttons. Senior WoW producer John Lagrave has told Eurogamer that the team faces a hard task in making this a reality, but definitely confirmed that ‘they are looking into it’.

While it would obviously be great news if they good pull it off and allow the WoW experience to continue on the move, we argue that the iPhone shouldn’t really be the device that they are targeting. Sure enough the iPhone is one of the most popular smartphones on the market right now, but if they are looking to bring the game to mobile devices, they should consider the iPad as well, or even Sony’s new PS Vita handheld. The iPad would obviously be ideal with that lovely display screen, but the PS Vita would be able to overcome the control scheme obstacles thanks to the combination of both physical buttons, a touchscreen and a rear touchpad.

Blizzard may also be unwilling to enter into any exclusive agreements with Apple, so Sony may be the better company to strike a deal with – especially when you consider that Sony are now willing to explore the MMO genre with open arms, as seen with the upcoming DUST 514 PS3 exclusive.

What are your thoughts on this? Do you agree with us that World of Warcraft would be better suited on the PS Vita than the iPhone? Either way, we would love to see WoW branch out to other devices, but let’s hope that Blizzard are thinking about bringing the franchise to other mobile platforms too, not just the iPhone.

A rather strange and unusual trademark has been registered by Diablo 3, StarCraft 2 and World of Warcraft developer Blizzard, it’s called ‘Mists of Pandaria’ which could potentially be the name of the next WoW expansion to hit shelves in a few years time.

If indeed this is the name of the new expansion from Blizzard, we could expect to see the official announcement at this years BlizzCon which kicks off on Friday, October 21, 2011.

MMO-Champion, who usually datamines information such as this, released the news in the late hours of August 2, and show that the trademark was filled on July 28, 2011.

But why do they think that this expansion ties to the worlds biggest online MMO, World of Warcraft? MMO-Champion state that the international codes of 009 and 041 only seem to appear on Blizzard’s online games trademarks meaning that it is not tied to a book or something similar.

Not much can be gained from the title, but some are pointing it at a new Panda race that has yet to be introduced in Azeroth. If this is the case then could the Panda race be specificially tied to the Alliance or Horde factions? Some even say that the Panda race could be a neutral faction that could be played by both, or none.

This opens lots of doors for Blizzard to play around with. We could even see the Naga finally make it as a playable race, something that WoW fans have wanted to see since the rise of the game way back when.

Although this is not confirmed as the next World of Warcraft expansion, this is not the first time Blizzard has filed a trademark like this, much like Cataclysm was trademarked in 2009.

If the Mists of Pandaria is indeed the next expansion is the next in line for Blizzard, what content would you like to see? An expansion of Azeroth like Cataclysm or a space-filled adventure like Burning Crusade? A new class such as the monk? Thinking about it, this could also be Blizzard’s yet unannounced MMO? What do you think?

Star Wars: The Old Republic or SWTOR as it is most commonly known has been getting a lot of media attention of late, one because it has set record pre-order levels, and two because of recent WoW killer claims. Now we elaborated on the whole pre-order topic in a recent article, so now thought that this World of Warcraft claim needed a closer look.

Most gamers will agree that the notion of any such game being able to topple the might of Blizzard’s WoW will be like saying; the Mega Drive can compete with the PS3’s graphics. However, SWTOR has so much more to give gamers, more in fact than Wow, but there is still much more to consider. Gamerzitch has now weighed in on the argument saying that BioWare has developed a game that makes you feel important, but is that really enough to topple the fan base of Blizzard’s MMO?

The reason we say this is because World of Warcraft currently has a user base of 13 million, this cult following will be tough to follow and even if those on the side of SWTOR must agree that it is a battle that will not be won. This is a shame; because The Old Republic has a lot more to give its users, the 1,000 hours of story is proof of this. No one will be able to say that BioWare has a pointless game here, as it is far from it.

It does not matter how much Star Wars: The Old Republic has to offer in way of gameplay, storyline or how differently it reacts when playing as a smuggler or Jedi, it will always come down to reach. But let’s think about this for one moment, as there is room for both. It does not matter if you want SWTOR because it is more for a single player or WoW because it excels in multiplayer, there will be times when you want the option for the two.

Take social media, there are so many people who prefer Facebook, but it does not stop them using Twitter for its different features. The two can coexist in harmony, its just you have to be willing to accept it. Chances are most WoW users love the Star Wars movies, which would mean that they might give SWTOR a chance just to see what all the fuss is about.

Do you believe that there is room in the market for both to do well?

Those of you who are familiar with World of Warcraft will probably have noticed a few changes that have gone live in the Battle.net systems this week, in which a new button has appeared in your friends list that enables you to add one of your Real ID friends to a group.

What this button does is allow you, the player, to add up to 4 members of your preference, including yourself to a group and then queue up for dungeon instances despite what realm you are all playing on.

Obviously, you must be a part of the same faction for this to work, but it should be welcomed for players who have friends on different servers who wish to play together from time to time.

When Battle.net was first launched last year, World of Warcraft players were promised a wealth of new features and options that would allow much more social interaction than just adding character names to your friends list from the same server.

It is hard to imagine a time when this, and the random dungeon feature didn’t exist. Players are no longer required to spam the chat with messages inviting players to do specific dungeons, and can now do this as easily as pressing two buttons.

With the new feature added, which Blizzard say will be free while the testing phase is finished, players can socially interact and play with players regardless of realm, although Blizzard also say that it will eventually become a premium feature. In the official WoW blog, Blizzard state that “This system is designed to make it easier for real-life friends to play together.”

As the test comes to a close, Blizzard will reveal any costs that will be associated with the service, but no word on how long this ‘free’ test will last.

Blizzard did a similar thing a little while ago, when they made it functional for players to chat within their guild, even if they were not playing. This was part of the Remote Auction House application that now requires you to pay a monthly fee to use.

Battle.net has come a long way since it was first conceived way back when, but with more and more services like this appearing, it can only lead to bigger and better things.

Have you tried the new feature yet? What are your opinions? Have you had any issues or has it been flawless for you? You can find out more information regarding the Cross-Realm Read ID Party feature via this official FAQ.

Today Blizzard has launched a new update for World of Warcraft, we spoke about patch 4.2 aka Rage of the Firelands back in April, now that the patch is available for download we have a full list of changes to tell you about and believe me there is a lot to get through.

If you are a harcore WoW gamer you may want to check out the 7000 word patch notes which can be found here, alternatively this page allows you to find out everything you need to know about raids, armor, quests, user interface tweaks, icons and 3D models in a much more user-friendly manner, you can also find out detailed information regarding Cataclysm’s first legendary item which is called the staff Dragonwrath, Tarecgosa’s Rest. We don’t really see the points in repeating information which WoWHead has published in such an easy-to-read way, however we will highlight some of the point which we think will interest our readers the most.

Let’s start with Raids, patch 4.2 brings new raid bosses and a new raid, once you have the patch you will experience seven unique boss encounters and the Firelands raid ends when you battle it out with Ragnoros, before this epic battle you will also face Ragnaros’ new Majorodomo Staghelm. If you succeed in the raid you will pick up some loot and a brand new Tier 12 armor set. You can find out a little more about the raids here. While we are on the subject of raids we have to inform you that the Baradin Hold raid will change a little once you have the patch, this is because a new boss will be waiting for you which is called Occu’thar.

We briefly mentioned armor in the last paragraph, however you can find out further information regarding the new Tier 12 sets which Rage of the Firelands brings here, all of which are said to have been designed with Firelands in mind. The link also provides you with videos which give you a preview of how the armor looks on different classes.

In terms of user interface changes there is nothing hugely amazing to talk about, that said some of the changes will be welcomed. One very simple thing which has been implemented applies to the character selection screen, the patch allows you to change the order of your characters. Something else which excites us is the new Dungeon Journal, this brings an encyclopaedia of knowledge to your fingertips as it can be called upon at any point to find out information regarding raids, dungeons and bosses.

As you would expect Firelands brings plenty of daily quests to WoW, the main quest lines that patch 4.2 brings are called The Firelands Invasion and Elemental Bonds, you can find out detailed information about these here, also this video previews the Elemental Bonds quest.

Have you installed patch 4.02? If so, are you happy with the changes it brings?

Since 2004 millions of people around the world have been playing World of Warcraft, late last year Blizzard confirmed that the 12 million subscriber milestone had been reached, now we are hearing that things seem to be declining.

According to a recent article posted on IGN it seems as if people may be getting bored of the MMORPG, at yesterday’s Activision Blizzard investor call it was confirmed that there are now just 11.4 million subscribers, which shows that has been a 5% decline in just 7 months (roughly). Perhaps the Cataclysm expansion was not as amazing as many thought it would be.

As you would expect Blizzard Entertainment has a plan, they will now focus on speeding up content development for existing players, this will hopefully keep people hooked for a longer time.

Having 11.4 million subscribers is still amazing, however we are sure that Blizzard will do everything in its power to ensure that things do not decline any more rapidly, we just wonder why it seems as if people are giving up on one of the most addictive games out there.

Maybe you have given up on WoW over the last six months, if so why did you quit? What could Blizzard have done to keep you custom?

We have some good news for World of Warcraft players now, as Blizzard has just released a couple of teaser trailers for the new Firelands content that will be included in the next big 4.2 patch update for the game.

Details on the new content are pretty non-existant at the moment, but according to VG247, Blizzard will be posting a new message on their blog this week with few details, hopefully they reveal a solid release date for the Firelands goodies.

We have two new videos to show you, both giving you a glimpse of what’s on offer in the new content. We do know that players will get a new quest and raid to to enjoy as part of patch 4.2, while you can also expect a vast array of bug fixes and improvements that’s always standard with every patch release.

Watch the videos below and tell us which you’re more excited about – the daily quest or the raid? The bosses in the raid teaser look pretty formidable though, so good luck trying to take them down. We’ll inform you when we hear more details about patch update 4.2.

A story from Kotaku reveals that the hugely popular MMO game World of Warcraft has seen one player defy all objectives of the game in order to maintain a high level which competes with any other highly skilled player. The player ‘Everbloom’ has said he has been playing for five months and has reached level 85 without killing a single player.

He does this not by cheating or by exploiting a weakness in the game’s design, but instead through solid work at gaining XP through other means. Instead of charging into battle, Everbloom would turn away and instead pursue a long campaign in picking herbs, digging up bones and exploring the wilderness.

When asked about his accomplishment he proudly states that “each level was a major achievement!” and that “If you like to explore, and enjoy a challenge I really REALLY recommend this.” His story goes to show that with a lot of determination, patience and time on your hands, you too could progress through World of Warcraft by using his method.

So in conclusion, Everbloom has proven that there is now a new way to play the game. You can go about collecting XP the traditional, daring way or take a more laid-back approach… the choice is yours.

Will you try out what we are dubbing the “Everbloom approach”?

Bungie, the creators of Xbox’s famed Halo series, has expressed plans for their next venture, although this time there is a twist. Bungie has previously embarked on first-person shooters with the Halo series and have created a top-down real-time strategy game with Halo Wars, now they want to create a Massively Multiplayer online game!

Bungie has hinted at MMO features in the past, however this month Bungie were rumoured to be making a first person MMO for Activision that is titled Destiny. This same game was said to use an all new game engine and was tagged as “World of Warcraft in space”, (Space following the setting for many Halo games).

In 2010 Bungie signed a ten year multi-platform contract with Activision, therefore it looks like this agreement has something to do with this MMO, Bungie had this to say about the MMO “we’re definitely looking at building a universe that people want to spend time in.”

There were rumors suggesting that Bungie’s MMO would be a Halo spin-off or a WoW copycat, however Bungie deny this, that said they are keeping very quiet about this mysterious game.

As we hear news about Bungie‘s MMO we will keep you up-to-date, will you be keeping a close eye on the matter?

It would be fair to say that a lot of hardcore World of Warcraft gamers do not live the most active of lifestyles, however a new Kinect hack created by the University of Southern California may help change this.

The USC has created the Flexible Action and Articulated Skeleton Toolkit (FAAST), this basically maps body movements to keypresses, if you scroll down to the end of this post you can see a video showing how this toolkit makes playing WoW a far more involved affair.

FAAST is middleware which can be used alongside Kinect to control all types of off-the-shelf video games, obviously at the moment it is a work-in-progress, however the more success this project sees shows the true potential of the Kinect sensor and what it can bring to Xbox 360 titles.

At the moment Kinect titles are very Wii-like and aimed towards children, however it is thought that a Kinect firmware update will unlock its true potential and make it a game changer, perhaps we will see it used in future Xbox 360 RPGs, first-person shooter and action games, FAAST certainly shows that Kinect has the potential to do more then control simple avatars.

If you own Kinect and would like to try out FAAST it can be downloaded here, the site contains all of the relevant information so read it all before trying it out.

What games would you like to control with Kinect?
