Within the last couple of days we have seen WordPress 3.4, also known as Green, go live for download with a collection of improvements that are much more than just security fixes. WordPress 3.4 has some significant new features that bring improvements to customizing your theme, a much easier way to embed tweets, custom headers, and a lot more.

Most updates include a visual tease that focuses on some of the main changes, and we’ve embedded the official video demo below this article, which gives you a taste of what to expect from WordPress 3.4.

This update makes it easier to create a good looking website by changing background colors, editing site title and tagline, choosing your own image dimensions for header images, and a lot more that enables you to play with different looks before publishing any changes. See the video for a quick demonstration of the new features in WordPress 3.4, or have a look at the complete list of changes and performance improvements here.

What do you feel is missing with WordPress even after version 3.4? Is there a feature you’ve been wanting for a while that is still missing? Check out the video below and hit the link above for the full change log, and then leave a comment with your thoughts on this update.

Earlier this month WordPress 3.2.1 was released and the download included some small, but visual changes. As a writer I was not too happy when I noticed that the default font which displays in the HTML editor had been changed to something which was not easy on the eye.

We have now heard lots of complaints about this, therefore we thought we would write a simple how to guide which tells you exactly how to modify change the font to something a little more desirable, the procedure is pretty simple and involves editing the functions.php file. If you do not know how to do this the easiest way to do this is to login to your site’s WordPress dashboard, on the left hand side you will see “Appearance”, click on this and then you should see “Editor” click on that and you are almost there. On the right hand side you will see a long-list of .php files which you can edit, here you should see a functions.php file (it may appear under “Theme Functions” click on it and you can begin editing your functions.php file. Note: The image below may make things a little clearer.

Scroll right down to the bottom of the functions.php file and then simply insert a little bit of code (see below), if you don’t want to write this out manually simple go to this website and click “Copy”, you can then paste it into the bottom of your functions.php file. Once you have done this simply click “Update File” and if all has gone to plan you will have changed the font.

You can choose a different font family if you want, however we think that Tahoma, Verdana ,Arial and Helvetica are great fonts which should not strain your eyes too much. Feel free to let us know if this simple guide worked for you in the comments section below, if not leave us a comment and we will do our best to help you.

With social networking more important than ever it was only a matter of time before Google tried something else, and the early signs look promising. Now websites and blogs need to have this latest option available so you will be pleased to know that Devs help add Google’s +1 button to WordPress. There are many different options, which we will explain for you below.

First up is simply called Google +1 Button and is said to be quick and easy to set up. Once you do install the plugin you will need to follow the instructions on the settings page. You will need to have WordPress 2.7 or higher in order to install the plugin. The average user rating for this is two and a half stars – not very promising.

Next is WordPress Google +1 Button and has more to offer than the one mentioned above. You can add the Google +1 button in the same way as the previous plugin, but this one goes one-step further by giving you a range of button styles and where you would like to place it. The average user rating is much higher for this plugin, three and a half to be exact.

The final one is called WordPress plugin – Google +1 Button and is version 2.0.3. There were a number of bugs with the previous version, which have now been fixed. If you want to follow what the likes of Mashable is doing then you are going to need this plugin. The average user rating is four stars, so even better than the one we mentioned above.

Those of you who are happy to code can embed Google Plus One directly. You can just paste the basic code or you can also select advanced options. Remember that you have to adhere to publisher policies regarding the Google +1 Button.

About a week after Google launched this new service we asked if they preferred this, Twitter’s or Facebook’s options. It came as no surprise that Facebook Likes was voted the best. However, Google did get more votes than Twitter. We already have the +1 button and has been growing slow and steady, so feel free to recommend us.

Google Plus One was launched on June 1, 2011 it was in direct response of Facebook Likes and Twitter Follow. Mashable was said to be one of the first to have the new feature, as they were one of the beta testers; they now have over 4,600 plus ones.

For those of you who have a website or blog and are looking to integrate Google Plus One (+1), we can reveal WordPress plugin launches v1.2. There are two options for you here; the first is by automatically doing so before or after you have added content, or by manually adding PHP code instead. By doing so manually gives you greater freedom of where you want to add the new button.

The latest WordPress plugin not only allows you to add the new Google +1 button, but also other button options as well, which you can read in more detail on the WordPress website. This latest feature is expected to produce some amazing results for webmasters, and we should expect more sites to integrate the button into their websites, as we have.

We all know how social networking is key to success on the Internet, and although the Google Plus One is a little late to the party, it is still expected to become a popular tool. If you want to make it on the Internet today, then you are going to not only need Google’s help, but the help of your friends and readers who like your site as well.

We have learned that those who now use the Google +1 button have seen improvements in their search results. We have to remember that this will not be the case for all websites, as the reader needs to like what they are reading. It is no good if you have the button on your website, only to offer the reader nothing in the first place – and there are certainly a great number of websites like that on the Internet.

Are you using the new Google +1 button, what results have you seen? Do you think that this new Google feature will take off?

We have some rather interesting news now for those of you that currently use the WordPress application on your iOS devices, as we’ve just heard that the app has recently received a major revamp. Not only has the update fixed a variety of bugs, but it’s also added a couple of new features.

In fact, according to Ben Parr over at mashable.com, version 2.8 has fixed a total of 31 different bugs including errors that caused seventy-five percent of all application crashes. The issues with external keyboards and adding categories on the Apple iPad have also been fixed.

Users will also notice that the revamped WordPress application now features a Stats section and a Quick Photo button. The Quick Photo button feature – which is currently only available for the iPhone – enables users to take a photograph, quickly write a post around it and then publish it.

Meanwhile, the Stats feature provides users with a quick way to view daily, weekly and monthly page views, as well as information such as post views and top referrers. This feature is available for all WordPress.com blogs, but self-hosted blogs will need either the Stats plugin or Jetpack to activate it.

The revamped app has also added support for 10 languages including Dutch, Croatian, German, French, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish, Swedish, Japanese and Italian. Do you currently use the WordPress app on your iPhone or iPad?

It is no secret that Philadelphia are struggling with the current economic climate, therefore it is unsurprising to hear that they are looking into ways of increasing revenue, we have recently heard that they are now demanding that bloggers acquire a business license.

If a blog has the potential of making profit via ads etc the federal government want you to buy a license, this license will either cost you $50 a year, or $300 for a lifetime.

This is particularly bad news for those of you who have your own low key blog, however I doubt larger blogs will complain about the small $50 a year cost.

Over the last few years blogs have really taken of, as of June 2010 there were 11.4 million blogs hosted on WordPress, which goes to show how popular blogging has become.

If you would like to find out fully detailed information regarding the new licensing we recommend checking out the source link below.
