A great application has recently been released for Mac OS X users, which will let wine lovers keep track of their wine collection or cellar. Wines 1.0 is also being offered for a discounted price on the Mac App Store.

Released by Montreal based SilverCocoa, users can not only track their collection but also take notes, rate wines and a lot more. Wines can be classified by taste, country, region, varietal, price, and much more. This allows users to find which wine they are looking for instantly.

New wines can easily be added with help of the database. Users just enter the name of the wine, and the majority of the time the information will be filled in for you. A Smart Image Finder allows users to find bottle or label images, if there is one that can’t be found the integrated webcam feature can be used to snap an image, and then use it in the application.

Wines 1.0 is currently being offered for the discounted price of $9.99, usual price is $14.99 on the Mac App Store. Mac OS X 10.6.6 or later required.

Last month we posted a story on “Wine Vending Machines” and that Pennsylvania will be the first state in the U.S. to try these new wine kiosks. Today we can report that the launch has gone ahead, and were introduced at Mechanicsburg and Harrisburg grocery stores.

According to Katharine Lackey from USA TODAY, Pa. wine vending machines are linked to remote call centers, which are used to confirm the customers ID and interact via a computer monitor.

The machines can carry over 700 bottles of wine, and reactions are pretty mixed so far. USA Today reports that one consumer said they were not convinced, you can save time by going to a grocery store but Sovanna Mam says, it’s a lot of “bells and whistles and hoops to get wine”.

PLCB kiosks cost around $100,000 each, which will be paid by a $1 surcharge per transaction and advertising on the kiosks. The failure or success in Pennsylvania will decide the future of these wine vending machines. Read the full story on USA Today.
