Last month we had a chance to see a few hands-on videos that took a closer look at the Nokia Lumia 920, and in this particular article we had a chance to see the Samsung Galaxy S3 compared to the Lumia 920 in a quick hands-on. Things have changed since the start of last month, and now you’ll find plenty of Nokia Lumia 920 reviews to help you gain more insight into the devices specs, most important features, and other factors that make or break this new Windows 8 phone.

Nokia state that the Lumia 920 is “leagues” ahead of the competition and it wants to prove this with its innovation, which is found in a 4.5-inch PureMotion HD+ display, and PureView technology found on the camera with a Carl Zeiss lens and Optical Image Stabilization. Where many other smartphones can dock and be tapped to play music, it seems that the Nokia Lumia 920 goes a step further by allowing wireless charging right out of the box and can be charged with a massive range of Qi-compatible chargers.

Nokia Lumia 920 visual review – we’ve included a few videos below this article that take a visual look at the Lumia 920, and these reviews take a look at the new smartphone from a number of perspectives. You’ll see a few hands-on reviews, and also some more focused videos that give the Nokia Lumia 920 a review for certain features like the Facebook lock screen, sound recording, and camera settings.

Each of the reviewers give their own take on the Nokia Lumia 920, although some are a little more negative than others, which one problem a few people noticed had been the weight and size of the Lumia 920. If you don’t mind a smartphone a bit heavier than most, then the specs might make up for that and the main features can be seen below. We can see a lot of Nokia and Windows Phone fans rejoicing in finally seeing this OS on a high resolution display, but whether to purchase the Lumia 920 might come down to how important you class a camera on a smartphone.

The iPhone 5 announcement is just around the corner, but for those that are not interested in Apple’s upcoming behemoth, the recently unveiled Nokia Lumia 920 may tempt you into a purchase. We have an initial hands-on review for you to check out, as well as an indication on Nokia’s preferred release date for the device.

Make no mistake about it, the Lumia 920 is Nokia’s new flagship device and one that they hope will shy users away from the iPhone 5 and the Samsung Galaxy Note 2. While you may have your opinions about Nokia as a smartphone manufacturer moving forward, the addition of Windows Phone 8 may force you to give this handset a closer look.

Aside from Microsoft’s latest phone OS, the device also features a dual core 1.5Ghz Snapdragon S4 processor, a 4.5-inch PureMotion HD+ display which Nokia state is IPS quality, a 8.7 megapixel camera and 4G LTE connectivity support as well. Along with the display, the camera seems to be one of the other key focuses of the device, with KnowYourMobile even claiming that the camera on the Lumia 920 is ‘leagues ahead’ of the cameras fitted inside the iPhone 4S and Galaxy Nexus.

The reasons for this include shooting clear pictures in low-light situations and the fact that the Lumia 920 has a feature to remove motion blur when shooting images and video. Nokia really seems to have nailed it in terms of camera superiority, but it remains to be seen whether the device still has enough pulling power to tempt you away from perhaps more glamorous handsets that are coming out before the end of the year.

If you remain a loyal Nokia customer and are interested in the Lumia 920, you should check out the first initial hands-on review here. Unfortunately, Nokia has remained silent on what specific date the device will be available, but we have since learned that it will go on sale sometime in November, with Europe an obvious destination first before US consumers can get their hands on it.

We’ve also added a useful video below, giving you an idea of the contrast in camera quality between the Galaxy S3 and the Lumia 920, using the same pictures shot with flash – the difference in picture quality is fairly evident to see.

Are you impressed with the Nokia 920? Would you have liked to see this with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, rather than Windows Phone 8?

Microsoft will be aware it has a fight on its hands to win market share away from both the iPhone and Android platforms. This doesn’t mean it won’t be successful...

Microsoft will be aware it has a fight on its hands to win market share away from both the iPhone and Android platforms. This doesn’t mean it won’t be successful as better handsets become available and the company also improves the actual operating system. Today we have news that the Windows Phone 8 release may bring radical form factors to the platform.

We recently heard some of the features that the Windows Phone 8 OS will bring, and now according to a report on TechRadar a recently leaked video may have outed four new designs coming to the platform. The video in question hints at new screen resolutions but doesn’t go into details about the size of them.

But the General Manager of the Windows Phone Design Studio, Albert Shum, showed the site a slide at Nokia World where today’s Windows Phone becomes just one of six devices. He said the company were still working on the project but added that you want an ecosystem that offers “diversity”.

Putting the Windows Phone OS alongside those of tablets and PCs will according to Shum allow the ecosystem to “really live and breathe“. So this could mean that there could be larger device available besides a tablet. The slide showed a variety of screen sizes with the biggest being a 5-inch tablet.

HTC already has two Windows phone handsets that feature 4.7-inch displays, but the 480 x 800 resolution isn’t really enough to make the most of the screen. But adding a higher resolution on larger displays will allow the Apollo OS to compete with larger screen devices such as the Kindle Fire and Galaxy Note.

The other three designs point to a smaller handset that will enable cheaper devices in emerging markets, and two devices have squarer displays. One has a facing keyboard that will appeal to business users, and the other is a smaller device.

It seems that there could be a screen that is just slightly bigger than 1-inch, which could provide a Windows Phone equivalent to the iPod nano. It has been reported before that the Windows 8 platform is set to share information across three of Microsoft’s products, and by offering a diverse range of products will appeal to the consumer even more.

Will you consider the Windows Phone 8 platform once it’s available?

Earlier today we told you about some of the impressive new features with the next Windows Phone 8 operating system. This follows some of the features that have been revealed about the PC Windows 8 operating system. Now it seems that the Xbox 720 release will see it share information with the Windows 8 platform, and may be even called the Xbox 8.

An insider at Microsoft has revealed that Windows 8 will feature an application similar to the one that is found now on the current Windows Phone platform. This allows users to search for games, TV shows, music, apps, and movies for their Xbox 360. Now according to a report on Examiner a new cloud type service will allow users to share content such as movies and music across the next Xbox, Windows Phone 8, and Windows 8.

Xbox Live games will be available across all three platforms but currently it is not known how much integration and compatibility is planned. Information such as data usage and missed calls will be shared via a synched PC. For now it is not known if the same type of information will find its way to the next Xbox as well.

The current Xbox has the same Metro interface as Windows 7.5 Mango and Windows 8 after the dashboard was updated back in December. The company is obviously looking to integrate its three top products together, which is something Apple has successfully managed to achieve.

Meanwhile a report over at ThisisXbox is saying that while many reports have suggested the next console from Microsoft will be known as the Xbox 720, there is a chance that the company is thinking of calling it the Xbox 8. A source is claiming that many developers have already received developer units of hardware but in an alpha non-console form.

Before the next Xbox has been labeled with the Infinity and Loop codenames, but are believed to be for online services of the actual console. Infinity is supposedly an improved version of Xbox Live, and will be used for digital downloads for all three platforms. Infinity could also eventually find its way into future HDTVs.

Meanwhile Xbox Loop is the codename for a service that will bring digital content from the current gen into the next gen. Do you think Microsoft will call the next gen console the Xbox 8?

Microsoft unveiled major improvements to their Windows Phone operating system when they released version 7.5 Mango to users towards the end of the last year. Now the first ‘official’ details on the next major version ‘Apollo’ have been revealed and we have a list of exciting features that Windows Phone owners can look forward to seeing in Windows Phone 8.

There is a lot of juicy information to get through, and it comes courtesy of a report published by PocketNow who have intercepted a video intended for Nokia and have in turn a core list of specs for Window 8, which we’re guessing Microsoft had no intention of making public for some time.

For starters, it looks like Windows Phone 8 Apollo will have support for multiple processors – at last. As you know, Mango is restricted to a single-core processor at the moment so we can say that this was one feature that was inevitable anyway. One exciting feature which you probably didn’t know was coming is NFC. The source mentions that Windows Phone 8 devices will soon be able to exchange data with each other simply by tapping each other – a feature which will operate in a similar way to the Android Beam feature on Ice Cream Sandwich.

Another major feature that will make its long awaited appearance on Windows Phone is support for removable MicroSD cards. Fans of Skype will also be pleased to hear that Microsoft will include a new Skype client that will feature ‘deep integration’ with Windows Phone 8, which will improve calling experience with friends even more.

If you think Windows Phone 7.5 is currently miles behind the likes of Android and iOS, then it looks like Windows Phone 8 is going to do a great job in trying to play catch up. NFC and MicroSD support will be met with excitement amongst current owners we feel, while it just may make those who were previously intrigued by Windows Phone, a lot more interested.

You can read the scoop over at PocketNow here. Are you impressed with this initial Windows Phone 8 feature list? More importantly, do you think Microsoft will be able to overcome their difficulties and make Windows Phone one of the most popular operating systems in the industry?

Windows phone 7 has been out a while now, and the OS has impressed many people. But like any new mobile OS there is always updates needed to improve and fix minor bugs. We recently told you about a minor update that is called ‘NoDo’, which is due anytime.

There are also some major updates planned, with one later this year and another next year. Recently TechRadar ran an article listing twenty things they would like to see with Windows Phone 8. Some of the items which are mentioned look to be coming in the first update like copy-and paste, but others including better multitasking made the list.

Another thing which made the list was the option for applications that shut down when you quit them. Internet tethering would also be a good option to have on any new Windows Phone OS, and the absence of a full YouTube app is seen as a problem on the current OS.

PCPro is reporting that Intel boss Paul Otellini is saying they will be offering Windows 8 on smartphones. He was recently asked about the decision by Microsoft to put the next version of Windows to the ARM platform. He replied that the announcement was “not a lot of new news”, and added that it could also have advantages for Intel.

He went on to say “The plus for Intel is that as they unify their operating systems, we now have the ability for the first time… to have a designed-from-scratch, touch-enabled operating system for tablets that runs on Intel that we don’t have today.”

What would you want for the sequel to Windows Phone 7?

This maybe news which you may have already heard about, but for those that don’t, we have some important details for those who decided to pick up a Windows Phone 7 handset at launch last month.

We have recently told you about a planned update for copy and paste on WP7 devices, but now we have details on other forthcoming updates which are being tagged as ‘major’ – yes there is more than one update on the way.

According to this report from BGR, Microsoft are planning to two major updates to the OS, one which will happen next year, and the other at the end of 2012. We are hearing that the codenames for these updates are Mango (2011) and Apollo (2012) and that they could even be labelled as Windows Phone 7.5 and Windows Phone 8.

Furthermore, we even have brief details on what both updates will add to devices. The Mango update is said to include HTML5 and Silverlight support, while Apollo is apparently meant to add multitasking support for third-party apps, in-app downloads and more customization options for users.

Hopefully these updates will add a lot more features that just the ones mentioned above. Also, do you believe that there should be more than just one ‘major’ Windows Phone 7 update each year? Are you currently satisfied with the list of features you have on your chosen WP7 device or do you believe that Microsoft should add more?

We’ll update you if we hear any further details on the Mango and Apollo updates.
