Late last year Nokia kicked off their revival plans with the launch of the Lumia 710 and Lumia 800 smartphones, which come running the Windows Phone operating system. Both companies are looking at the partnership to help gain some market share from Android and the iPhone. There has even been some who think the platform will overtake iOS within three years. Today we have news of the Lumia 900 release date time frame is revealed.

The handset made its first appearance at the recent CES 2012 show, and now according to an article on TechRadar UK customers will be able to get the device in June. The Carphone Warehouse has listed the device on its website with an icon that says expected June 2012.

So far the company has not revealed any plans for the device launching outside the US, and believed to be exclusive to AT&T where it is thought to be launching in March. The 4.3-inch device has come in for a lot of praise by people that saw it at the CES show, and is basically a larger version of the Lumia 800 but with a wide angle lens on the rear camera and a front facing camera.

With the device launching in June in the UK it may be around the time of the Windows Apollo update, but UK users will have no use for the 4G LTE chip that US consumers will be able to use. Do you like the look of the Nokia Lumia 900?

A few days ago we gave you the news that the Nokia Lumia 710 could be about to be released for consumers in the UK. Now we have news that the Lumia 710 price may be cut ahead of the UK release according to reports.

It is being claimed that mobile carriers in the country have put pressure on the Finnish manufacturer to lower the price of the upcoming handset. According to a report on the FT, this is because of weak sales of its flagship device the Lumia 800 that was released last year.

The Lumia 710 has been on sale in the US since the beginning of the month, and as we reported previously can already be had for free. It is expected to be launched in the UK in the coming weeks, and Nokia is believed to have been in talks with the operators in the country.

Two sources are claiming that it was requested that the price to be lowered, with the operators wanting a budget offering from the company. It is now thought that the handset will be offered to consumers on a two year contract for around £20 per month. Nokia are believed to have wanted the pricing set for £25 per month.

Nokia’s first Windows Phone device, the Lumia 800, was priced to compete with the iPhone and high-end handsets on the Android platform. But during the run up to the busy Christmas period it failed to break into the top ten handset sales. The first official sales for the handset should be made available by Nokia later this month.

The trouble Nokia is currently facing is consumers are seemly unwilling to give the company’s new smartphones a try. This is more based on previous experiences and not just the price, which means Nokia, has an even bigger job on its hands winning people over.

Will you get the Nokia Lumia 710?

Earlier this week Nokia launched its new flagship device the Lumia 800, which the company is pinning its hopes on to help it reestablish itself in the smartphone market. The handset was the first from Nokia to be running the new Windows Phone 7.5 Mango operating system. Now we can tell you that the Nokia Lumia 800 gets a mixed response to its launch, and a update is on route.

According to FT.com mobile carriers are reporting mixed preorders for the handset compared to other platforms. Two separate sources from mobile carriers have said the device has had much lower orders compared to the iPhone 4S, and handsets on the Android platform.

But carrier Orange are painting a different picture and said the Nokia Lumia 800 has seen the most successful Nokia launch, and had proven to be highly popular with preorders. The fact that the company was giving away a free Xbox 360 console as we reported previously may have had something to do with it though.

Chief executive of Nokia Stephen Elop has said sales of the device will grow over time without revealing any targets. One of the mobile operators said it has to be expected that the device got off to a slow start compared to rivals, as Nokia was only just coming back into the market.

Meanwhile WinRumors are reporting that Nokia are getting ready to release an update for the handset already. This is to fix some address issues with Microsoft Exchange 2003, and also a voicemail notification problem. There are also some improvements related to battery life part of the update. It has been revealed that the update is already in the hands of carriers for testing before release.

What do you make of the Nokia Lumia 800?

Nokia is looking to boost its flagging smartphone business with the launch of new handsets running Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7.5 Mango. The company recently launched its first handsets running the operating system the Lumia 710 and the flagship 800. But could the Nokia Lumia 800 be a failure as a carrier says it’s too expensive?

According to the European general manager of international carrier Telefónica, who are also the parent company of 02, the devices are “too expensive”. Simon Lee-Smith said to Telecoms.com that the devices were not “at the right price point”, and basically said if the company wants to shift the devices in any great number Nokia has to provide handsets that are more “cost-competitive”.

He continued by saying that Nokia was now starting to listen to its various carrier partners, and believed the company would start providing handsets next year that would be more competitively priced. He believes the problems with price have been related to handsets already available such as the N8 and N9, as well as the recently announced Lumia 800.

When the device was revealed at Nokia World, Nokia CEO Stephen Elop said the Lumia 800 would sell for €420 before subsidies or tax. Lee-Smith feels manufacturers can be unrealistic with what consumers and carriers will pay for a new handset. He said that companies think that a device costing €400 or more is normal, but customers won’t pay that sort of money for a handset that “doesn’t differentiate sufficiently”.

He feels that just improving the specifications of smartphones is not good enough, and many carriers won’t pay higher prices for devices that just have larger screens of higher spec cameras. What do you think does Nokia need to have cheaper smartphones?

Last week we told you about the new Nokia Lumia 800 that was revealed to the world, and is the handset manufacturers first device to offer the Windows Phone operating system. Since then we have heard various carriers that will offer the device, and how much the device will cost. Now today we have the Nokia Lumia 800 UK availability date that has been confirmed.

The company has announced the device will be available on November 16th in the country, and according to T3.com will come a day after the latest version of Android launches with the Galaxy Nexus. The handset marks Nokia’s first foray into the Windows Phone platform, which it hopes will help it become a force again in the smartphone market.

Nokia will see its new flagship handset go up against the already available iPhone 4S, and the Ice Cream Sandwich running Galaxy Nexus that will arrive in the UK a day later. Just to remind you the Lumia 800 comes running Windows Phone 7.5 Mango, and is powered by a single-core 1.4GHz processor. It features a 3.7-inch Clear Black display, and has an 8-megapixel camera that features a Carl Zeiss lens with 720p video capture.

It will come in three colors, black, cyan, and magenta covering its injection molded polycarbonate body. The handset will be available from carrier Three Sim free for £399, as well as on a contract with the likes of Orange and Vodaphone. It will also come against to the recently announced Motorola RAZR, so consumers have a nice variety of new handsets to choose from this holiday season.

Samsung will be hoping to continue the success they have been having with their smartphone models when they launch two new ones in the US next month. The company recently overtook Apple in terms of revenue for the last quarter and now sits second, behind Nokia in overall handset sales. The Samsung Focus Flash and the Focus S have been scheduled an AT&T arrival next month.

Both the new models feature Microsoft’s latest offerings from their mobile OS, Windows Phone 7.5 Mango, which is also currently being used in the new Nokia Lumia series that is expected to launch soon. The news about the Samsung devices was made official through the carrier’s Facebook page which, according to WinRumors, revealed a price and release date for both the models.

They will both be launched by the carrier on November 6th, each offering fairly affordable deals. The Samsung Focus Flash will be the cheapest, only costing $49.99 with a two year contract with a minimum data plan of $15. The Samsung Focus S features the higher end specs and customers will be paying the price for them at $199.99, again on a two year, $15 minimum data plan agreement.

Here is a round-up of some of the key features these two devices will possess. The Focus Flash is equipped with a 5 megapixel camera on the rear as well as a VGA front-facing one, it supports AT&T’s 4G HSPA+ network, has a 1.4GHz processor and a 3.7” Super AMOLED display. the Focus S features the more advanced 8 megapixel camera on the rear as well as a 1.3 megapixel front-facing one, will also support AT&T’s 4G HSPA+ network and have a 1.4GHz processor and is boasting a 4.3” Super AMOLED Plus display.

The launch marks the start of the planned Windows Phone events from Microsoft, which takes place in five major US cities beginning November 7th and ending on December 7th. The HTC Radar and the HTC Titan are also among the new models being showcased. What do you think of these two new devices? Will you be getting either of them?
