In the UK many of the big grocery retailers offer online deliveries of their produce straight to the consumer’s door. Now testing has begun that has Wal-Mart online delivery that features grocery shopping.

An article on Reuters is reporting the test has begun in San Jose, California a Walmart spokesman confirmed on Saturday. There have been rumors for a while that the world’s largest retailer was considering offering the service.

Called Wal-Mart To Go the service will allow consumers to visit the company’s website to order consumables and groceries, and have them sent direct to their homes. This includes products such as fresh goods, bakery, baby, over-the –counter pharmacy, frozen, meat and seafood, household supplies, and health and beauty items.

So far the online service has been difficult to achieve because of the short shelf life of fresh food, and the small profit margins involved. If Wal-Mart decides to roll out the service it will go up against Amazon Fresh and Peapod.

The company’s grocery business is already responsible for around $140.6 billion in sales last year. In the US groceries accounted for 54% of Wal-Mart’s total revenue. Would you like to get your groceries delivered to your home?

Retailing giant Wal-Mart are planning on using new advanced electronic ID tags so they can keep a track on individual pairs of jeans and underwear. It will be the start of a system that is hoped will have better controls on inventory, but some people are concerned about privacy.

In an article by Miguel Bustillo of The Wall Street Journal it is reported that the new removable tags will start being used next month which will allow individual garments to be read by a hand-held scanner. This will enable Wal-Mart staff to know which size of a range of jeans are out of stock, so helping to keep shelves correctly stocked and inventory closely checked.

If the trial proves successful the new smart tags will be rolled out on other products across the company’s 3750 US stores. The new tags have raised some privacy concerns in some quarters as they can be removed but not turned off, and they are trackable. They are concerned that some criminals or unscrupulous traders could scan consumers’ garbage and find out what has been recently purchased.

These theories have been dismissed by smart tag experts and Wal-Mart has insisted that suppliers only add the tags to packaging or removable labels to help with fears that they could be tracking consumer’s movements.

We reported recently about Wal-Mart slashing the price on a 16GB iPhone 3GS by a massive $100, in readiness for the proposed launch of the iPhone 4G. This makes sense for retailers to start shifting stock they will be in some user’s eyes obsolete.

The news that Apple themselves are no longer taking orders for the iPhone 3G 8GB and have stopped shipping to AT&T stores, could mean the end of this version. Mwd.com is asking if it is worth buying one of Wal-Marts iPhones.

The offer at Wal-Mart seems on the surface a good one, but delve a little deeper it may not be such a good idea. A new and improved iPhone seems set for launch very soon with a front –facing camera. Add to that talk of new and faster processor that has been confirmed all be it unofficially.

Another reason to hold fire is the fact of being tied in to AT&T contract for two years with an old handset. Are you going to buy and iPhone from Wal-Mart? Click here for full story.

We have recently heard that Wal-Mart Stores Inc has settled allegations of dumping hazardous waste at stores in California, not only have they paid millions to settle this but they have also decided to change their practices nationwide.

Prosecutors have recently revealed that Wal-Mart has agreed to pay $27.6 million to settle the allegations of violating environmental laws and regulations, these allegations stated that they had been improperly disposing a range of hazardous materials such as fertilizer, pesticide and aerosols.

Wal-Mart’s environmental affairs handler did not deny the violations, however did stated that these incidents happened at least four years ago, not only this but since then the company has “worked closely with the state of California on a comprehensive hazardous waste plan that includes improved training programs, policies and procedures”.

Many believe that paying $27.6 million is a bit of an insult given the fact that over 236 Californian stores and distribution centers were at fault, what do you think?

Wal-Mart will now face a lawsuit over sex discrimination claims on female workers following a six-to-five vote. The lawsuit will try to claim millions of dollars in back pay, and is likely to start within a year. According to The Australian, this will be the largest discrimination lawsuit of its kind in the U.S.

This lawsuit involves hundreds of thousands of former Wal-Mart Sam’s Club and female employees – where they allege that they received less pay and promotions than male staff. If this goes the way of the plaintiffs, then this could have serious repercussion for the supermarket chain.

The lawsuit was filed all the way back in 2001, so has taken nine years to get to this stage. Walmart has tried on a number of occasions to stop the case from going to court. A company not offering equal pay to female workers is something that was common place a decade or two ago, but not now.

We wonder how the verdict will go? It would be nice to see David beat Goliath once again.

Last night was a major night as far as Twilight fans are concerned, as Wal-mart had an official release party, for the highly antipated release of the New Moon DVD.

As expected, queues were in the dozen, as devoted fans waited patiently for the chance to grab their copy from day one. Wal-mart were also offering giveaways and cake to keep consumers happy while they waited.

We have found a few videos from the event to show you now, in which you can see just how long the queue is. We couldn’t resist showing you another video either, in which a Wal-mart member of staff teases that Edward Cullen would be attending.

According to this article over at NYDailyNews, the retailer is making major changes to their public address systems, following the shocking announcement that occured last Sunday night.

Wal-Mart has now stated that they are reducing the number of phones, that staff have access to in-store, until this matter has been concluded.

At the moment, we are still no clearer as to who was responsible for the racist remarks. An investigation is ongoing.

We have recently learnt that shoppers were stunned by what they heard on a PA in Wal-Mart NJ. According to the Guardian the public address said, ”All black people leave the store now.” This has shocked me just reading about it, but to actually be there must have been like stepping back in time.

Walmart and other high-profile organizations would never condone such behavior; as a result the retail giant has now launched a full investigation. One shopper said it was “appalling, stupid and sad.”

The report states that it was a male voice that made the racist announcement in the store in Washington Township New Jersey. Wal-Mart officials have issued an apology for the incident, saying that it was “unacceptable”.
