As you may already know by now Walmart recently cemented a partnership with Vudu and has begun a video streaming service that offers customers the ability to stream rented movies. The service was already a successful one with Vudu running solo but with the backing of the retailing giants Walmart they are now a threat to other similar services on offer such as Netflix.

It seems the next step for the newly formed team to take is to start bringing rented movies over to the world of mobile devices. According to CBS News that’s exactly what they have begun doing beginning with the iPad. That’s right; users of the service will now be able to stream rented movies to their Apple device.

What’s most interesting about this news is the video company’s decision to stream their content via the browser on the tablet rather than have a dedicated application for the Vudu streaming service. By doing this it allows them to avoid Apple’s notorious restrictions that they have in place in the App Store while at the same time avoiding any excess charges.

The downside to the service on the iPad is similar to the PC issues where videos are restricted to one standard resolution and Disney videos are prohibited due to licensing concerns. The company aims to continue to expand across other platforms in order to establish themselves as a successful video streaming service. There are already ways to use the service on the iPhone if you so wished, however the UI is not optimized for it yet, which means the quality will not be as great, but if it means you get to stream movies on the go surely a little quality sacrifice is worth it, right?

Will you be using Vudu on your iPad? What’s more important to you, accessibility or quality?

For those of you who use Vudu, the television service provider, we have some news they may excite you yet disappoint you at the same time. This is because the company has added a number of TV shows to their current rental catalogue, however only some of the shows will take advantage of the 5.1 audio technology and 1080p HD visuals that Vudu provide.

Despite the lacking in viewing technology for some of the shows, the update seems to be a substantial one. Vudu will now provide TV shows like The Walking Dead, Glee and also Modern Family.

As for the cost of seasons from the series above, they are a little uneven across the catalogue at the moment, which means some of the content is excellent value for money while other content not so much.

For example The Walking Dead series will cost you $16.99 on Vudu HDX whereas on Blu-ray at Amazon it will set you back $26.99. However series six of Weeds costs $27.99 on Vudu HDX when it would only cost $23.99 on Blu-ray at Amazon.

It is thought that as time goes on the content quality and value of Vudu will improve. More details can be found at Vudu Blog by clicking the link. What are your thoughts on the new Vudu content? Share them with us in the comments below.

Here is some exciting news for those movie lovers and Sony lovers alike. It seems VUDU, who are a movie streaming service provider that claim to have new movies available years before Netflix, have struck a deal with Sony meaning it will feature on all Blu-Ray players Sony has on offer this year.

The streaming service will also come with a choice of 1080p 3D or 2D titles that can be viewed on a pay-per-view process. This means that you will now be able to view 3D movies, with 5.1 Dolby Digital surround sound quality with Sony’s latest 3D compatible hardware, almost always on the same day that they are available for sale on DVD.

A list of the Sony Blu-Ray models which have been confirmed to feature the VUDU streaming can be found in the article by Chris Davies at Slashgear. The list includes the Sony BDV-E780W, BDV-E580, BDV-E280, BDP-S780, BDP-S580, BDP-S480, BDP-S380 and BDP-S280.

More details can be found in the article by clicking the link above, where there is also a full press release and you read how VUDU released an update for the PS3 earlier in the year and plan on featuring Move control soon.

What do you think of these Sony devices getting VUDU? Do you already use VUDU, if so what do you think of it? Write your thoughts in the comments below.

If you own a 3D compatible device that supports the Vudu video streaming service, then we may just have some exciting news for you. It appears that Vudu has just made an announcement at the CES 2011 event, that it is planning on offering 3D movie streaming as of next week.

You don’t have to worry too much if you haven’t yet got a device that supports 3D content from Vudu either, as it appears that manufacturers are working on rolling out more compatible devices throughout the year. This will of course include 3D HDTVs and Blu-ray players, Geoff Duncan at digitaltrends.com reports.

Vudu’s upcoming 3D content will be available in 480p, 720p and 1080p resolutions, and the company says that the 3D streaming content has exactly the same bandwidth requirements as the 2D content. Manufacturers who already support Vudu 3D content include Philips and Vizio.

The company hasn’t actually said how much content will be available when it launches the 3D movie streaming service, but it did state that it will be expanding its library over the course of this year. If you don’t know much about Vudu, you can learn more via the vudu.com website.

Services the PlayStation 3 offers continues to grow, with the news that with an upcoming firmware update, owners will be able to access the Vudu pay-per-view movie service.

John P. Falcone of Cnet is reporting that the service will be available from November 23, and will have an updated user interface, which will be friendlier when using devices such as the Move or mice. This new service will give PlayStaion 3 owners access to over 4,000 HD movies for rental or purchase. Some supported titles will offer 5.1 surround sound and 1080p HD resolution.

This latest addition to the PS3 joins other services which include the NHL Gamecenter, MLB.TV, Netflix, and Hulu Plus, as well as the PlayStation Store. The service will give Walmart the potential of millions of new customers in the US, and Vudu are going to offer new customers a $5.99 credit to sample the service.

Will you use Vudu when it becomes available?
