Many car manufacturers are developing and releasing electric vehicles, as ways are sought to move away from the traditional internal combustion engine. Today we have news of another manufacturer, as the Volvo C30 Electric release nears as production begins.

Eric Loveday of Autobloggreen is reporting the company has announced that to start with the battery powered vehicle will be delivered to customers in Europe. This includes Belgium, Netherlands, Norway, and Sweden. Volvo has stated they will have built around 250 electric C30s by the end of next year, but could increase the number if demand is high enough.

The C30 Electric is being built at the company’s plant in Ghent, Belgium, and is then sent to Goteborg Sweden. This is where the electric motor and lithium-ion battery pack is installed. Volvo claim the C30 has a range of around 93.2 miles with a top speed of about 80.8 mph. it also claims to have a 0 to 31mph time of four seconds.

While it may have impressive figures for performance pricing is a bit on the steeps side. Volvo plans to lease the C30 for about $2,100 a month, without the option to purchase one. So over three years this will set you back $76,674.

Do you think there will be much call for the C30 Electric?

On Sunday February 6, 2011 the Super Bowl XLV will take place, and is the one day that so many companies spend a great deal of their money on commercials. However, auto companies have been a bit late to this party, it is only over the past couple of years that they have truly started to embrace this. It is for this reason why we thought we would take a look at what we believe are the best auto ads we can look forward to.

The first is our favorite, that’s right we are talking about the “Chevy Runs Deep” commercial. This commercial is to do with the 2011 Chevrolet Camaro; I do not want to give too much away here, but just expect to see “Bumblebee” from “Transformers” on there. We just love it; view below.

The second that we have embedded for you below is called “Volkswagen Commercial: The Force” and as you would expect features a little kid going around trying to use the force on not only the family dog, but also the household appliances and even the family car, which just so happens to be the new 2012 VW Passet.

The final video that we thought we would show you comes in at a close second behind the Camero commercial. This is called “Volkswagen Commercial: Black Beetle” From the start we had a little chuckle watching this, as seeing a black beetle with two wide stripes starting from the front and going all the way to its rear racing around what looks to be the ground of a forest. This little fella is in a hurry, and so are VW, as they want to show off their 21st Beetle during Super Bowl.

So there are three of what we believe to be the best auto commercials for Sunday; would you agree or are there any others that deserve a mention?

With the International Motor Show preparing to open for its 81st edition, more emphasis is being placed on the environmentally friendly range of cars. The Green pavilion success in 2010 means organizers would like its location to be more central this year.

More and more of us are being influenced by environmental protection considerations when it comes to choosing which car to purchase. You can check out more information about the preparations for the 2011 Geneva Motor Show here.

One of the cars of the future that will help in the aiding of the carbon footprint is the new Volvo V60. Its Hybrid engine means less pollution. When fully charged it will run for 31 miles on pure electricity thanks to a 70hp electric motor mounted in the rear, while upfront is a 215hp, 2.4 litre, five-cylinder turbo diesel. Further details about the V60 Hybrid appearing at the Geneva Motor show can be found at Engadget.

Stateside the V60 wagon will be coming across to most buyers as a type of ‘enthusiast vehicle.’ This is according to Auto Blog sources. They also think the new engine work that has gone into this Hybrid will ‘keep Volvo loyalists out of the clutches of the Prius or Lexus’.

What are your thoughts about this environmentally friendly vehicle? Will you be considering environmental protection when it comes to purchasing your next car?

If you are looking to buy a new car for the family this year, it is a good bet that you are after a model which will combine the important safety elements with a car that looks good on the road as well.

If you fall into that category, you’ll be pleased to know that we have a list of new 2011 models which have gained a following due to their excellent safety aspects.

That list comes to you courtesy of William Browning from Yahoo, and the first car he has picked out is the 2011 Hyundai Sonata – a model which has been voted the best safety car by the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety. It’s available to buy now from $19,000 and you can view the official website here for a list of features and tech demos.

Another car on the list is the Chevrolet Cruze (around $17,000), which is one of the safest cars to buy this year due to being awarded a 96 out of 100 score, for adult occupant protection by the European New Car Assessment Program. We’ve taken a look at the website ourselves, and we can tell you that the Chevrolet Cruze has a higher adult occupant score than such models as the Audi A1 (90), the Nissan Micra (78) and the popular Volkswagen Passat which scored a 91.

If you are interested in seeing what other models are the most safe in 2011, then visit the link above. If you think your car is in the safety category, leave us a comment below.

Volvo S80 Recall: 3,635 2007-2010 Models Affected

Today we have another vehicle recall for you to read about, the good news is that Toyota are not in the headlines for the wrong reasons this time, instead Volvo are at fault.

There is a problem with 3,635 Volvo S80s which were sold between 2007 and 2010, apparently the maximum tire pressure which is displayed on the door jam and in the user manual is incorrect.

In some V-6 S80s the maximum tire pressure should read 35 psi, however it actually reads 36 psi, also in some V-8 models the maximum tire pressure should read 36 psi, however it should be 38 psi.

I must say that this recall is probably one of the least serious problems we have seen in recent times, however at least it shows that Volvo care about their customers. Volvo has also stated that this recall was the result of a discovery by the company’s own engineers and was not the result of a customer complaint.

If you are unsure as to what you should do if you are affected contact Volvo at 800-458-1552, alternatively you can contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s hot line at 888-327-4236.

Volvo have recently unveiled their upcoming 2011 S60 model at the New York Auto Show 2010, this four-door sports sedan is apparently the first to feature pedestrian detection with a full automatic brake system

When describing the 2011 S60, Volvo said that it is a coupe with four doors, it will be four wheel drive and will seat five people. The engine will apparently be an in-line-6 which outputs 300 horsepower, other details are not known, however it will also feature a front-end designed to minimize injuries to pedestrians.

At the moment it is thought that if all goes smoothly it will appear late in the third quarter this year, as we find out more information regarding an accurate launch date and price we will keep you posted.

Following on from the takeover of Volvo by Chinese Automakers Geely in 2009, we have some fresh news on progress for those interested now, as Geely admits they face a tough challenge ahead.

As reported from Reuters, Geely now face the challenge of using the Chinese market to turn Volvo, into a profitable brand once again.

But analysts are optimistic that the Chinese market will be key in shifting fortunes for Volvo, just as it did for General Motors and Toyota after recent woes.

John Zeng, an analyst with IHS Global Insight had this to say on the matter: “If he (Li Shufu, Chairman of Geely) can make Volvo profitable in China that would at least help offset losses in European operations and keep them up and running.”

Let us know your thoughts on the future of Volvo. Full article through the link.

Ford has announced that they will sell Volvo to Geely for a sum of $1.8 billion – subject to negotiations on Volvo’s pension deficit, as well as their debt. However, the Detroit automaker did say that they did not expect to see all of that sum once deductions for said items were taken into account.

Ford have yet to say how much they will end up getting in the deal, but it will certainly be a huge boost for them. Ford has lost a huge amount of money with Volvo, they paid over $6.5bn in 1999 –showing how much of a loss-maker the Swedish carmaker has been to them.

The Telegraph reports that Unions have expressed concerns over how much commitment Geely would give to Volvo, although it has been suggested that the Chinese company has $2.7bn to invest into Volvo.

This deal could be the kind of injection that Volvo needs, as they will get a huge boost by entering into the profitable Chinese auto market.
