It is all very well having a wide selection of tablets on the market that offer the latest operating systems but these high-end tablets are not always within the budget of some consumers. ViewSonic recognizes this and has taken the Consumer Electronics Show as an opportunity to announce their Android Ice Cream Sandwich tablet, the ViewPad E70, which has a very reasonable price at under $200.

As BGR reports the device won’t be blowing anyone away as far as specs are concerned but the price tag of $170 is certainly eye-catching to say the least. For this affordable price, customers will be getting the latest offerings from Google’s successful Android OS out of this 7” tablet, as well as front and rear-facing cameras, 1080p HDMI-out and 4GB of storage with microSD expansion option up to 32GB all run by a 1GHz single-core processor.

ViewSonic Vice President of business development, Michael Holstein claimed the company ‘is committed to delivering advanced technology designed with the consumer in mind.’ The ViewPad E70 certainly looks to be promising that with its rich user experience which not only includes the latest Android operating system but also premium features and apps. The tablet will be one of the most affordable on the market when it launches as expected late during this first quarter of 2012. Check out the link above for the full press release.

TechRadar were able to get some hands on time with the device during CES and were impressed, claiming ‘The ViewPad E70 is capable, it’s just not especially pretty.’ They also pointed out that if price is your main concern then the lack of subtly and sexiness in the design shouldn’t matter. Check out their full hands-on review by clicking the link above. Will you be putting price before design when purchasing a new tablet?

With the recent announcement of Apple’s latest device, the iPhone 4S, a lot of media attention has turned toward the smartphone market. In the meantime the tablet market has been keeping busy and ViewSonic has just announced their new ViewPad 10e tablet which they will be hoping will give the iPad a run for its money.

The 9.7” tablet has exactly the same size display as the iPad 2, is just 9.1mm thick and weighs just 620g making it one of the lightest and thinnest tablets on the market. While it may sound fragile, the ViewPad 10e is far from weak boasting a 1GHz Cortex A8 processing chip and 4GB of DDR3 memory. For a relatively inexperienced manufacturer of tablet, these features are something ViewSonic can be proud of, but when compared to the best tablets on the market today it is lagging behind.

For starters the operating system is Android 2.3 Gingerbread as opposed to the latest optimized tablet OS Android 3.0 Honeycomb. When compared to Samsung’s similarly sized tablet, the 10.1” Galaxy Tab, apart from having a smaller display the ViewPad 10e also is slightly thicker and heavier, with the Galaxy Tab being just 8.6mm and weighs 565g. Similarly it weighs more than the iPad 2 which is just 601g and 8.8mm thick, meaning Apple’s device is also thinner.

According to TechRadar the ViewPad 10e will come with Amazon Kindle pre-installed has a customizable 3D style user interface feature called ViewScene 3D. While there is no word on pricing as of yet, the tablet is set for release in the UK in early November and judging from the lack of high-end specs we’re hoping it will cost a lot less money than the iPad 2.

What do you think of the ViewSonic ViewPad 10e? Will it be able to compete with the iPad or will it become just another victim of Apple’s device?

We’ve provided our readers with information on a number of different 3D monitors over the past few months, including 2 new models from Acer (the HN274H and HS244HQ), the e2352Phz from AOC and two 3D HDTV/monitor hybrids (TA950 and TA750) from Samsung. However, today we’d like to talk about the recently unveiled V3D245 3D monitor from ViewSonic.

As noted by Darren Murph from engadget.com, the ViewSonic 3D Vision monitor comes with a 24-inch, LED-backlit display with a full 1920 x 1080p HD resolution, a built-in NVIDIA 3D Vision wireless emitter and one pair of 3D Vision glasses. It also offers an impressive 120Hz frame refresh rate, 300 nits of brightness, a 20,000,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio and an ultra-fast response time of just 2ms.

The built-in NVIDIA 3D Vision wireless emitter provides users with the flexibility of being able to connect it to an NVIDIA GeForce-equipped PC, in order to view 3D videos and photos, stream 3D content from the web or play 3D games in a full HD, 60fps resolution. Thanks to the standard built-in HDMI 1.4 input, users also have the option of connecting it to a PS3 console or 3D Blu-ray player.

As for the audio, the ViewSonic V3D245 3D Vision monitor comes with two integrated 2-watt SRS Premium Sound audio speakers. NVIDIA’s 3D Vision drivers support over 550 3D video games, with more being added all the time. What’s more is that 3DVisionLive.com contains thousands of 3D photos and hundreds of 3D videos that can be viewed via a free web browser and a 3D Vision system.

Erik Willey – LCD monitor and PC product marketing manager at ViewSonic – said that by pairing their exclusive 120Hz, LED-based 3D technology with NVIDIA’s 3D Vision technology, they are able to provide a new world-class level of performance that will shape the future of 3D entertainment and gaming. As for the price and availability, the V3D245 will be available to purchase for an ESP of $499 as from mid-late August.

Are you thinking about buying a new monitor?

A few days ago ViewSonic announced that two of its tablets – a 7-inch tablet running Android 2.2 and a 10-inch Android / Windows dual OS tablet with Wi-Fi and 3G – would be making their way onto the Indian market within the next week or so. Now the company has announced that the Viewsonic V350 and ViewPad 4 smartphones are also heading to India.

According to a recent article over at themobileindian.com by Nilabh Jha, the ViewSonic V350 smartphone will run on the Android 2.2 OS and feature a new 3D interface, while the ViewPad 4 will be powered by a 1GHz Qualcomm processor and come with a 4.1-inch display. The display on the ViewSonic V350 is a little bit smaller at 3.5-inches.

The ViewSonic V350 will in fact be the second dual-SIM Android phone to be sold in the country, with the first being the Spice Mi270. However, the Mi270 model is more along the lines of a basic phone, whereas the V350 comes with more features. Ajay Sharna – country manager of ViewSonic – said that both phones are high on technology and offer superior functionality.

The V350 smartphone is an active dual-SIM device (meaning that both SIM cards are active at all times), which enables the use of two different network services at the same time. The V350 comes with an HVGA (320 x 480) capacitive touch screen, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.1 connectivity, Assisted GPS navigation, microSD card expansion up to 32GB and a 5MP camera with auto focus.

As for the price, the VIewSonic V350 is likely to be priced up at around Rs 17,000. Meanwhile, the Flash 10.1-enabled ViewPad 4 – which will offer both tablet and phone functionality – will run on the Android Gingerbread OS and come with a 4.1-inch WVGA capacitive touch screen display. This model also features a 5-megapixel camera.

The ViewPad 4 will also support 720p HD video capture, playback, upload and includes a mini HDMI 720p display output. However, the ViewPad 4 also comes with an additional front facing camera for video calling, along with Bluetooth 2.1 and Wi-Fi connectivity. The expected price of the ViewPad 4, which uses the latest ViewScene UI, is Rs 20,000.

Both models will offer up to 8 customizable home screens, and will be available to purchase from Reliance Digital outlets. Are you looking to buy a new mobile phone?

ViewSonic has released specs and details for the 7-inch ViewPad 7x during Computex, and it is seen as a world’s first. The reason for this is due to the fact that it will be the first 7-inch tablet to run on Google Android 3.0.1 Honeycomb. The jury is still out about a tablet device this small compared to the larger model; the Galaxy Tab has done ok, but has not set the market alight.

So what can you expect to find hiding away inside ViewSonic’s new and little tablet? The first thing that you will find the Tegra 2 dual-core processor, two cameras, HSPA+ connectivity all packed away in a lightweight design. We are not sure on a release date or price, but we hope to learn news on both soon.

Going back to what we believe is the most important feature, the new Google Android 3.0.1 OS will allow the tablet to make full use of all the apps on Android Market. There are a number of updates to this version, which seems to work quite well with ViewSonic UI and its exceptional 3D menus.

While doing some further digging, we have learned from Good E-reader Blog that ViewSonic expects to sell the ViewPad 7x for around $429. The first model is expected to be launched as a Wi-Fi version in July and a 4G model in the Fall of this year.

Since its release we haven’t heard a great deal about the ViewSonic gTablet, however a new update has been released and it should make the gTablet even more desirable than it already is.

The update actually went live four days ago, however it slipped under our radar, the installation procedure is simple as it is being rolled-out over-the-air, simply reboot or power on the GTablet and you should see a notification, then you just follow the on-screen instructions and soon you will be updated. If for some reason you do not receive a notification simply select updates from the program launcher.

Once you have installed the update you should notice some impressive changes, these include an energy saving screen lock, Adobe Flash support, French and Spanish language support, support for keyboards, mice and docking stations and finally there will be international cities available in weather.

There are probably a lot of unmentioned changes which will improve the tablet such as minor bug fixes and interface tweaks, however ViewSonic has not given us a complete breakdown of all of the refinements.

We would love to hear from you if you still think that ViewSonic need to add or improve some of the gTablet’s functionality and features, let us know in the comments section below if you have any ideas.

For those of you that are into Android powered tablets, you will probably have heard of the ViewSonic ViewPad 10. It originally appeared last year with an Atom N450 CPU as well as it’s Android OS; well it seems it has resurfaced, this time with the dual-core N550 CPU.

The ViewPad 10 still appears to have the same style and specs that it originally came with it but has made some changes that include this CPU upgrade. It also now runs Windows 7 Home Premium according to an article at Tablets Unleashed.

Previously the tablet was listed have an Android 1.6 OS with ability to boot to Windows 7 OS, a 10” touchscreen, a 16GB SSD and 1GB RAM to go with its 1.66GHz processor. Now it appears it has 2GB RAM as well as its new OS.

According to Slashgear sources, the tablet is good for 720p playback because it combines its Windows OS with the new Intel hardware. It will be available in Europe within the next four weeks for less than €500 with no word of a U.S release yet.

What do you make of these improvements? Would you consider buying the ViewPad 10 with its new specs? Let us know what you think.

Today is the second day of MWC 2011 – three if you count the early events from the likes of Samsung – and the announcements of both phones and tablets have been relentless, more so Android. One such device on show was the Viewsonic ViewPad, but it seems as if it is suffering from an identity crisis, as it does not know if it is a phone or a tablet.

We had already seen the ViewPad 4 at CES, but ViewSonic has worked on a few things since then, with Engadget making note that the hardware is now much more refined. With just three months to go until the rumored release date we would say that the tablet/phone is almost there, which you can see for yourself in the video on Engadget.

CNET UK has said that the device has a hard time knowing what it actually is; is a phone or a tablet, as either bleeds into each other? However, Andrew Hoyle is correct when he says that it is more phone, the small form-factor and the fact that it only runs Android 2.3 is a dead giveaway. What else could it be?

The confusing thing is that ViewSonic still say that the ViewPad 4 is a tablet that would be like saying that the iPhone 4 is a tablet. There are a few features on the ViewPad that makes it a little like a tablet, but who are they trying to kid here. Steve Jobs has a hard time saying that a 7-inch device is a tablet, what will he make of this?

Let’s look at it like this, a tablet device makes it possible for you to run a number of tasks on at once, such as emails, spreadsheets, graphics, games and so much more; doing all that on a 4-inch device will be a pain. It was for this reason why the iPad was born; our smartphones had to evolve, it seems that ViewSonic wants to skip this part of evolution.

What do you think the ViewSonic ViewPad 4 is a phone or tablet?

During CES 2011 ViewSonic announced the ViewPad 4, which is an Android based smartphone; they now have another two devices ahead of MWC on Monday. The two products in question are the V350 and ViewPad 10Pro, the former a 3.5-inch smartphone, the latter a 10-inch tablet; both running on Google’s Mobile OS and Windows 7.

The V350 has dual-SIM support, Android 2.2 Froyo, A-GPS, 5-megapixel camera and much more. This handset is perfect for those who have to visit different countries, as it allows them to keep their SIM in, as well as use the one for that particular country.

Also in the ViewSonic press release that Engadget has was the ViewPad 10Pro, which is a dual-boot device. You not only have Android but also the choice of Windows 7 as well, we do worry that the tablet will not perform as well as it should because it runs on Froyo and not 3.0 Honeycomb – the Android OS specially built for tablets.

However, we are told that this tablet will use Intel’s Oak Trail, which should help with the performance aspect. As yet there are no details on a release date or price. CNET UK does have a few issues with these dual-boot devices like these, as having the two loaded up so you can shift from one OS to the other could not only drain CPU performance but also battery life as well.

We cannot say for certain if there is a future in a dual-boot system, but if they can get the balance right without a drain on resources, then they just might stand a chance.
