Fallout 3 not to get demo: Bethesda tell us why

April 23, 2008 by Peter

When a game developer hypes up the future release of a game they normally release a game demo just so you can gets a feel for the game however; for those of you who was looking forward to a game demo for Fallout 3 I am sad to say that there will not be one.

Bethesda who is the developer of Fallout 3 said that they are not able to use just a portion of the game in a demo version, Bethesda spokesperson Pete Hines has this to say “When you build it as one thing, there’s no way to portion off a section and have it stand on its own without putting the whole game in the demo, which we’re just not going to do.”

I just do not understand why Bethesda have this view on a demo of Fallout 3, there are huge amount of other huge game titles out on the market that released a demo first you just need to have a look at the biggest demo on the market Gran Turismo 5. I think that Bethesda have shot themselves in the foot, releasing a game demo of Fallout 3 could have helped with sales figures when the full game comes on the market, unless they have something to hide about the game, all seems very strange to me.

Teaser video: Spiderman Web of Shadows action-adventure game

Activision has kept things close to their chest when it comes to the new Spiderman Web of Shadows game. This is an action-adventure game and is set in New York and is free-roaming, as Spiderman you will be doing plenty of web slinging as well as being able to customize your powers. Activision has done something a little special, and that is to release a teaser trailer to the game.

There is not much to tell you about the game however; after watching the teaser trailer to the Spiderman Web of Shadows, it seems as if the world that Spidey has tried to save has actually been destroyed, but please do not ask me how.

As with all Spider-Man games you can expect to be able to fight your enemies with some great combo attacks while on the ground. Activision has said that the new game breaks new grounds where you are able to go into vertical combat, something that Spidey has not been able to do in previous games.
Another first for the game is a choice in how you will play Spiderman, first you can choose to play the hero and try and help people out or you can be the anti-hero and just look out for yourself. This is a great little touch to a game that promises so much.

On the April 10th we showed you the video walkthrough of the new Playstation Store and what features the Sony PS3 update 2.30 would bring, if you missed that you can watch it here. Today many of you would of already downloaded the Sony PS3 2.30 firmware and are enjoying the new store and other features, you can read our full report on this update that we posted earlier today here.

Some gamers wanted the new PS3 Home in this update, but sadly that has not happened and you will have to wait a little longer, although I am sure HOME will be well worth the wait and will change the way you and I use our PS3’s. This update did add increased Blu-ray audio support in the shape of DTS-HD Master Audio and DTS-HD High Resolution Audio; you can now enjoy Blu-ray movies with high-definition studio-quality audio.

The PlayStation store has a fresh new design and it’s much faster thanks to being software based now instead of web based. If you have not downloaded the update yet, all you need is 130MB of free hard disk space and access to the net.

PR would like to know:
What impact this firmware update has had on the way you use the Playstation 3, will these new features make a big difference to you?

If your all for Gameplay then those old Gameboy games can give you hours of fun, the video below shows how one gamer has got Gameboy and Gameboy Color games to work on the Nintendo Wii thanks to Wii RIN (a program that runs Gameboy emulators).

This is everything that was used:

  • 1x SD card plugged into front SD port
  • 1x Zelda: Twilight Princess
  • 1x unmodded Wii (no chip)

Call of Duty 4 map pack release: Xbox 360, 3rd or 4th, Sony PS3 early May

The Call of Duty map pack that we have been waiting so long for will be available hopefully on the 3rd or 4th. Well that is for Xbox 360 users anyway. The bad news is that users of the Sony PS3 will have to wait until early May for the map pack release.

It make me wonder why us Sony PlayStation users have to wait yet another month, maybe because the PS3 is much more complex to develop for. Oh well I suppose that the Microsoft Xbox 360 users will be laughing now, well all I can say is, enjoy you lucky gamers.

Do you think that Halo 3 is much easier after playing Call of Duty 4

When I first started to play Halo 3 it took some time to get used to, at times it was a little too hard for me to get used too. However since I have now been playing Call of Duty 4 it seems as if it has honed my skills, because I decided to blow the dust of my Halo 3 game and have another crack at it.

Well to my surprise the Halo 3 is now much easier, is it me or does the whole game feel like it is in slow motion. The reason for this is that in COD4 you don’t get time to think, it is action packed from the word go.

From SEGA, publishers of the superb Virtua Tennis series comes a fun-packed new take on racket and ball. What’s it about? The clue is in the name! World famous SEGA characters, among them Sonic the Hedgehog, NiGHTS and little AiAi the monkey, march out onto the courts to engage in goofy but skilful rallies.

There are over 15 SEGA characters to choose from, each one engaging their unique skills to trounce their rivals. These superstar abilities include dropping slippery patches on the turf, or dropping bombs, but these aren’t the only obstacles out there. Each location has a cool theme with its own pitfalls, ranging from Sonic the Hedgehog’s Green Hill Zone through to Ulala’s groovy space station and a zombie-infested Curien Mansion.

WHAT YOU’LL LOVE
Xbox LIVE tournaments in SEGA Superstars Tennis allow spectators to view from the stands. Although it’s more fun to take part in two- or four-player games yourself, seeing friends sweat it out is often hilarious. Up to six of your friends can be watching while you play.

Computer video games to get age ratings like cinema: Are games that dangerous

March 27, 2008 by Mark

dangerous games
The latest news will be good news for parents but not the gamers, it has been said that there will be age ratings for computer video games which will be the same as cinema-style age classifications.

There will be tough penalties to all those that sell games to children with ratings above their age, this new proposal came in a report which was published by psychologist Tanya Byron who says that there should be a massive campaign that warns parents and even teachers of the dangers to kids.

Dr Byron is well known for her work as a child behaviour guru on TV shows and she was commissioned by Gordon Brown with concerns that games that are violent may be lowering kid’s morals.

Te reason for this new measure is because any games that show sex or violence will require an age rating from the British Board of Film Classification and at the moment only 2 percent have an 18 certificate.

Manhunt 2 last month which is a very violent game won its High Court appeal to get an 18 classification because it was refused a certificate because of its “unremitting bleakness”.
A new legally-binding system could ensure that every game is rated in the same way as films - which are classed U (universal), PG (parental guidance), 12, 15 or 18.

Do you think games should get this new rating system? And are games that dangerous?

How many Xbox 360 and Sony PS3 games
First lets make a point, the Xbox 360 does have way more games than the Sony PS3 and we do not need to get into that but the real question is: does having more games and more choice mean that you buy more video games?
Although some gamers who have had the Xbox 360 from day one should have more games than PS3 owners as it has been out not as long, or I may be wrong.

So in the interest of finding out if more games means you buy more, be honest and let us know how many Xbox 360 or Sony PS3 games you own and feel free to tell us which ones if you wish.
