After last Monday, the new mobile operating system iOS 5 has been beta tested for one week. Apple’s iOS 5 has had a review on the upgrade compared to iOS 4.

iOS 5 has new features like Notification Centre, iMessage and lots more. In an article by Edgar Roth, from It’s All Tech, he explains the tests done on the installation of iOS 5 on a Verizon iPhone 4, and that they’ve been going great since the initial setup.

There is a vast improvement in comparison to iOS 4 and it seems like Apple have added missing components lacking in its predecessors. The new features are what some might think should’ve been available in the previous editions and maybe Apple was holding back.

It’s All Tech have let us know their views on iOS 5 after a 6 day test. The Notification Center has come a long way, with initial banners that appear at the top of the screen to notify you and a UI that has weather and stock widgets. Although there is still more room for on and off switches for Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.

The iMessage feature has not had the required usage to make a decisive opinion but seems to be like an improved version of the messenger service on the Blackberry. Newsstand is ideal for the magazine viewers, yet an option to hide would be useful for others.

The Reminders application is informative and ideal for Twitter and location based reminders. This option could use more integration especially with the Calendar application. The camera access from lock screen will prove to be handy also HDR photo are easily accessible, a few bugs are to be expected.

PC free setup seems to be a long awaited feature, Wireless synchronizing can be useful and the iCloud features of over the air updates are always going to be a welcome addition. You can now flag messages in iOS Mail app, which shows that Apple has seen that Mail needed an update. The overall performance is apparently similar to iOS 4.

Maybe you have had the chance to recently install iOS 5 beta and have praise or concerns. With future assessments, it looks like the iOS 5 has had a good going over already and the results sound good.

We told you recently that the White iPhone 4 was finally going to show itself and be available later this month. We were not sure if the device would be on both AT&T and Verizon, but it looks to be heading to Verizon customers as an internal inventory from the carrier has been leaked.

Mark Gurman from AppleInsider is reporting that according to the inventory Verizon are to offer the White iPhone 4 in both 16GB and 32GB versions. Apple have been saying for a while that the devoice will be available in the spring, but latest reports are pointing to an April release.

AppleInsider have a screen shot of the inventory, and based on the numbering system and other sources, the numbers are for the white iPhone 4. The model number for the black handset is MC678 and the white iPhone 4 is MC679. This is the same as the numbering system for the iPad 2s, where the white model number is one higher than the black model.

Regardless of whether the white iPhone 4 could be out pretty soon, will many people actually want it now after all this time? Sometime this year we should see the iPhone 5, so is it advisable to sign up to a new two year contract and then see a new device be released?

Will you wait for the iPhone 5 now?

Recently we have been hearing lots of iPhone 5 release rumors, some of these are stating that the 5th-gen iPhone may even arrive in 2012, we wonder if these rumors have resulted in you becoming impatient buying the Verizon iPhone 4.

The iPhone 5 release date is unknown, previous iPhone releases suggest that we could well see it arrive in June/July 2011, however some other sources are suggesting that it will arrive in September, if September comes and goes with no iPhone 5 chances are it will be delayed until 2012, but what does this mean for people who are almost due an upgrade now?

Well if your next smartphone has to be Apple the obvious choice has to be the Verizon iPhone 4, this is said to eradicate the antenna problems we saw with other iPhone 4 handsets and many say that Verizon’s coverage is much better than AT&T’s, but let’s not forget that in terms of multimedia capabilities and performance hardware nothing has changed.

With far more advanced smartphones running Google Android and Windows Phone 7 being released every month it would be in Apple’s interest to release the next-gen LiPhone asap, otherwise people may be swayed to buying a rival’s smartphone which features a dual-core processor, 4G connectivity and a high-resolution camera. Let’s face it when you compare the iPhone 4 to some of 2011′s smartphones it does seem dated in terms of tech specs.

We would love to hear from you if these iPhone 5 rumors have changed your plans to wait for Apple’s next smartphone, have you bought the Verizon iPhone 4 instead or switched to an Android device? Let us know in the comments section below.

ChangeWave Research has been conducting customer’s surveys for a few years now, and this time round have been able to compare Verizon and AT&T with the iPhone 4.

The survey can find out if there are any major differences being reported by the people that matter, the customers. With the iPhone 4 now being available on the Verizon network the company was able to see what service satisfaction customers are getting. In terms of this there was hardly any difference between the two carriers.

On Verizon 82 percent were very satisfied, compared to 80 percent on AT&T of iPhone 4 owners. The survey was conducted almost two months after the iPhone 4 came out on the Verizon network, so customers had plenty of time to use the handset.

It’s when you compare the dropped calls rate you really start to notice a difference. Verizon still have the best overall rating with customers only reporting a rate of 1.4 percent, while AT&T came last out of the four major carriers with 4.6 percent of dropped calls.

This makes interesting reading as the majority of iPhone owners are happy with the service they are receiving, but that could be down to the iPhone 4. But iPhone owners on AT&T have always complained about dropped calls so it’s no surprise the carrier come bottom in the survey.

Are you satisfied with your cell phone service?

After years of waiting Verizon customers finally got the chance to get hold of Apple’s iPhone last month. It ended AT&T’s exclusive deal with Apple as the only carrier previously offering the device, but how do the two networks compare when it comes to data speeds?

Peter Svensson over at USA Today is reporting in an article that Verizon uses an older network than AT&T’s and has lower data speeds. A testing firm called Metrico Wireless have said that data downloads on the Verizon iPhone was only half as fast as those on the AT&T network.

But because normal web pages load just as fast, users probably will not notice any difference, unless they are downloading large data files. Verizon has often thought to have the more stable network than AT&T, and this testing confirmed this.

AT&T’s Rich McNally said that with calls that didn’t go through or were drooped, there wasn’t much difference, but no figures were given. Tests were carried out over 4,000 calls and 10,000 web page views in New York, Seattle, Washington, Baltimore, Chicago and Dallas.

It was found though that when trying to download a file in a moving vehicle, the Verizon iPhone was less reliable, with a 10% higher failure rate. But when stationary the Verizon had a 10% better rate for uploads.

What do think of the data speeds for the Verizon iPhone 4?

If you will be installing iOS 4.3 on your AT&T iPhone 4 next week you are probably wondering what changes to expect, well one exciting new feature allows your iPhone 4 to act as a personal WiFi Hotspot.

AT&T customers will be glad to hear that this functionality is being added as Verizon iPhone 4 owners have had access to this feature since it was released in February, to utilize this feature customers will have to subscribe to the DataPro 4GB/$45 tethering data plan.

According to AppleInsider the final iOS 4.3 build has been released to developers, therefore there is no reason why it won’t go public on March 11th, Verizon Wireless customers will have to wait as the Verizon iPhone 4 differs from the standard iPhone 4.

AT&T’s hotspot plan allows for the double amount of data that Verizon’s hotspot plan does, however AT&T’s 4GB plan costs $45 per month, whereas Verizon’s plan gives you 2GB of data for $20 per month.

The small print makes things a bit more equal as AT&T charge just $10 per 1GB when you go over your data allowance, whereas Verizon charge you $20 per 1GB of overage.

Will you be using the AT&T iPhone 4′s hotspot functionality?

Today Verizon customers can start preordering the iPhone 4 for the first time, but will Verizon Wireless have enough units to meet demand? The company has reportedly asked its employees to hold off purchasing an iPhone 4, saying “unprecedented” demand was the reason.

Cnet are reporting that an email to employees from Chief Operating Officer John Stratton said “we all need to do our part to meet our customers’ needs–this means putting our customers first.”

The device is set to be hugely popular with estimates of up to 11 million new subscribers wanting the iPhone. Verizon said last month it had added over 800,000 new subscribers during the fourth quarter.

Meanwhile customers of AT&T with the iPhone may be getting hotspot Wi-Fi sharing sometime soon. According to a report on AppleInsider via the New York Times, the iOS 4.3 update should bring the feature to the iPhone and AT&T customers.

We told you yesterday how much Verizon would be charging for the iPhone 4, and even though we could see a new handset announced in a few months, Verizon are going to be extremely busy over the coming weeks.

For those of you planning on getting an iPhone 4 on Verizon we can now tell you how much you will be paying. Pre-orders will be beginning tomorrow with the basic voice plan costing $40 a month with 450 minutes of talk time.

According to the Associated Press if you want a voice plan with unlimited text messages, it will set you back $60 per month. If you need a data plan for getting your emails and surfing the web it will cost $30 per month. This is exactly what Verizon charges on other smartphones it offers for data.

It has also been revealed by Verizon that iPhone owners will be able to use the device as a Wi-Fi hotspot, this will cost an extra $20 per month and AT&T customers are not offered this feature. AT&T also offer a voice plan for $40 with 450 minutes of talk time, but their $60 call plan does not feature unlimited text messages.

The $30 data plan on Verizon offers unlimited data, while AT&T’s $25 data plan has a limit of 2GB per month. AT&T does offer a cheaper data plan that only costs $15 per month, but this has a monthly limit of 200MB.

Verizon have set aside a number of iPhone 4’s for existing customers, and people who are not already customers can not preorder one. Preordered iPhones could reach customers on or before February 10, and like AT&T will cost $200 or $300 depending on what size of memory is purchased. A new two year contract will also be required.

What do you think of Verizon’s iPhone 4 pricing?

Over the past few days Verizon has been saying that the launch of their version of the iPhone 4 will go ahead without a hitch – famous last words we would say. The reason we say this is because AppleInsider believes that a recent glitch with BlackBerry could be a “cause for concern.”

A number of Verizon customers who own a Blackberry handset said that they were having issues with the Internet, something that Big Red was quick to deny. There was an issue, but the carrier said that it only resulted in emails backing up for an hour – so how come they have gone all defensive?

This minor glitch if true will come as bad news, because every little detail of the network is being closely watched, as there are fears that they could suffer the same problems that AT&T had when the iPhone 4 first launched. That is not the only issue, Verizon will not know if their servers will be able to handle the onslaught on their website once pre-orders go live.

MarketWatch has said that Motorola has already expressed its concern over poor sales due to a yet to be released iPhone. We already know that sales of Verizon handset have dropped in anticipation of the fourth-generation iPhone, which has to be a reason why the carrier is very guarded about any possible issue. We are still not convinced that sales will be as much as expected, as some customers are not certain if they should wait for the iPhone 5 – although not certain if Big Red will get it right away.

AT&T customs will soon be able to jump ship and trade-in their iPhone for the Verizon version, more detils can be found here.
