The IGD (Individual Gunshot Detector) allows soldiers to pin point where a gunshot came from using a sort of radar, similar to what you’d find in the game Call of Duty.

A number of cities already use similar radars that are able to triangulate the origin of a gunshot in order to aid police in responding to a specific location. Rather than use the IGD to pursue a gunmen however, the soldier would use it to establish which direction the shot came form in order to take cover.

As the article by Kris Osborn at Army.mil explains the IGD, which is manufactured in the U.S by QinetiQ, uses four built in sensors that can pick up a gunshot’s sound and then displays the position of where the shot came from on the LCD screen it has.

The U.S Army has already deployed 13,000 of these devices to the troops in Afghanistan and plan on sending another 1500 a month over the next year.
