Epic Games were once again in attendance at this year’s Game Developers Conference in San Francisco. The company unveiled a brand new real-time demonstration of Unreal Engine 4 running on the PC and now we have the stunning video for you to watch, letting you see how the visuals compare to a real-time Unreal Engine 4 demo running on the next-gen PlayStation 4.

Next-gen really is the key word for Unreal Engine 4, as if you haven’t heard the big news – the Nintendo Wii U won’t support Unreal Engine 4 which is another massive blow to everyone. This is coming off the back of another recent blow, in the fact that Battlefield 4 or any other Frostbite 3 game will not be releasing on the Wii U either.

Back to Unreal Engine 4 though, as Epic has unleashed their new Infiltrator tech demo at GDC, giving a true glimpse in real-time into what the new technology will bring to the table in terms of cutting edge graphics. The result is very impressive as expected and can only be fully appreciated for those that can run the video with no problems in 1080p.

The big talking point over the last few weeks, is whether the Sony PS4 hardware really can be defined as next-gen or not compared to existing high-end PCs, especially since Sony has been trying to emphasize this very fact with the new PC-based architecture unlike the cell-based PS3 before it.

You can draw your own conclusions on what you think about this debate, by viewing the new Unreal Engine 4 demo which is now available in real-time running on PS4 hardware. Don’t forget to bump up the video quality in HD and it’s the same video that you may have already seen glimpses of during Epic’s initial UE4 reveal.

Which video looks the better? Is the Infiltrator video on PC the clear winner, or is the Sony PS4 hardware proving that the system can definitely handle true next-gen visuals?

If you have been impressed by the recent unveiling of the Unreal Engine 4 with the E3 tech demo, you may be interested to hear that a rival graphics engine is apparently as good as the Unreal Engine 4.

Crytek boss Cevat Yerli has said that their CryEngine 3 has been available for three years already and is still on-par with what Epic Games have just introduced with Unreal Engine 4.

Introduced back in 2009 at the Game Developers Conference, Cevat Yerli even said that the CryEngine 3 is next-gen ‘ready’ at the moment, unlike the Unreal Engine 4 which is still being developed and is unlikely to make its appearance until deep into 2013. Yerli went on to say that all the things that you’re seeing with the Unreal Engine 4 right now, the CryEngine 3 can do already – hinting that the company hasn’t even ‘put their latest stuff out yet’.

More competition is certainly good when it comes to buying the best looking games next year, but how will Crytek be able to back up their words with regards to Crysis 3? The game will be using the CryEngine 3 next year when it releases, but from what we saw from the E3 gameplay demo, it doesn’t look very next-gen to us at the moment.

Don’t get us wrong, it does look pretty good – but as good as the Unreal Engine 4 tech demo? We’re not so sure for now. The big questions will probably be answered when we find out what the first Unreal Engine 4 game will be and what type of actual gameplay graphics it can produce.

Unreal Engine 4 may be the most impressive thing you’ve seen at E3, but it is also worth keeping an eye on the Luminous Engine from Square Enix too, as we think it looks fantastic so far. What are your thoughts on Crytek saying that their CryEngine 3 is next-gen already and can match the Unreal Engine 4 in quality?

We’ve included a gampelay video of Crysis 3 from E3, as well as the Unreal Engine 4 tech demo if you haven’t already seen it. We’ve also put the CryEngine 3 tech demo from a few months ago as well, since it is probably very harsh to judge Crytek’s engine purely on Crysis 3 – their tech demo is equally as impressive too.

Following on from the fantastic tech demo shown at E3 a few days ago, Epic Games have now given out some additional details on their highly anticipated Unreal Engine 4, more importantly – a confirmation that we will definitely see the first game release next year.

Firstly, if you haven’t seen the tech demo that is getting everyone talking at the moment, you can watch it again here. The demo was easily one of the highlights of E3 2012 and arguably a contender for the best graphics seen at the event.

Epic boss Mark Rein has given fans reason to be happy this week though, by confirming that the first game powered by Unreal Engine 4 will definitely release in 2013, although obviously no timeline yet since we’re still at an early stage in development. At E3, heads were turned when it was revealed that Star Wars 1313, a new game developed in-house at LucasArts would be using the current-gen Unreal Engine 3.

The game looked so good, again another contender for best graphics, but the real surprise was that it was using the Unreal Engine 3, not Epic’s latest tech. That can only mean good things with regards to Unreal Engine 4 though as it obviously implies that when we finally do see the first game – it is going to be something special indeed and well worth waiting for.

Considering that Gears of War was the franchise that first unveiled the Unreal Engine 3, it is also likely that we will have another major flagship title to show off Unreal Engine 4 in its full capacity. There’s still no direct confirmation that Gears of War: Judgment is actually Gears of War 4, despite it being the fourth game in the series.

With this in mind, don’t be surprised if Epic are actually planning a proper Gears of War 4 game and it will end up being the first game to run Unreal Engine 4, on a brand new Xbox console. If you are really impressed with what you have seen from Unreal Engine 4 so far, let us know your ideas on what you would like the first game to be. Mortal Kombat, Batman, Mass Effect, Gears of War, Devil May Cry – those are just some of the big name franchises that have used the Unreal Engine 3 already.

E3 2012 should be christened pre-next gen E3 2012. If we were to look back on the event in months to come, we will definitely remember it for the sheer amount of tech demo teases that we have been treated to, all of which seemingly give a glimpse of what next-generation consoles will be capable of.

We have just given you some new gameplay for The Last of Us on PS3 and if you thought that looked good graphics wise, you really need to see the first real-time tech demo for the Unreal Engine 4 from Epic Games. We knew that the company had been working on the new engine for quite some time, but they have chosen the latter stages of E3 to finally give the world a proper look at what is to hopefully come on next-gen consoles.

After watching the action unfold, we’re trying to work out which is more impressive – this real time tech demo of Unreal Engine, or Square Enix’s real time tech demo of the Luminous Engine. Both have been designed for next-gen gaming purposes, while the latter will also be used to power the lighting effects inside Final Fantasy Versus XIII.

While we may get a glimpse of the Luminous Engine on current-gen consoles, it is likely that we will only see the Unreal Engine 4 on the likes of the PS4 and the next Xbox. This theory was backed up recently when it was confirmed that the very impressive looking Star Wars 1313 game was using the Unreal Engine 3, not the Unreal Engine 4 that we see below.

On a side note, what do you make of the actual theme inside the tech demo? It seriously wouldn’t look out of place as a Diablo 4 promo in our opinion. In a second video we have provided below, we see Epic’s senior technical artist Alan Willard give a walkthrough of some of the capabilities of the Unreal Engine 4 for those that require a little breakdown.

There’s a great sense of danger in perhaps ‘overhyping’ next-generation graphics, but with this and the Luminous Engine giving us an exact idea on what is possible – is it now time to start getting serious in saying that the next-generation of games is going to provide a serious upgrade in graphics? We just hope that Sony and Microsoft create consoles that can run these engines flawlessly. Watch the Unreal Engine 4 in action below and let us know your thoughts on it.

Which is more impressive, the Unreal Engine 4 or the Luminous Engine from Square-Enix?

If you asked us when we thought the next Gears of War game was going to drop, we would have bet that it would coming on the next-generation Xbox console. That isn’t going to be happening though, as a new Gears of War game has just been announced and it will be coming to the Xbox 360.

E3 2012 hasn’t officially started yet, but announcements are flying in everywhere prior to the event and gaming fans over the world must be loving it. We thought Castlevania: Lords of Shadows 2 was a pretty big pre-E3 announcement, but a new Gears of War game announced before Microsoft’s keynote surely takes that mantle away from Konami.

Details are very sparse at the moment as you can imagine, but the game will definitely be getting a full reveal at E3. The next Gears of War game will also be featured on the next issue of Game Informer and you can check out a taster of that cover in the image above.

What can we expect to see from Marcus Fenix and the boys this time around? There’s a lot of speculation that this game could be the start of a new three-part prequel that takes place before the events of the original Gears of War game. If that is the case then again it would have been a perfect fit as an Xbox ’720′ launch title, but Microsoft obviously feels that the Xbox 360 still has plenty of juice left in the tank for one more new Gears game.

Another big talking about has to be about the Unreal Engine 4 as well. Will this new Gears of War game be using the Unreal Engine 4 on the Xbox 360, or are Epic Games saving it until Microsoft releases their next console? It will be amazing if the new game does support the new engine, although having seen some of the examples of graphics quality so far from the Unreal Engine 4 – perhaps the Xbox 360 won’t be able to handle it. That’s why this new game on current gen comes as a bit of a shock to us, as you would have thought that Gears of War 4 combined with the Unreal Engine 4, on a next Xbox console would be a perfect launch game for Microsoft to sell millions of units.

What are your expectations from Gears of War 4 if that is to be the next game? Would you prefer to see a continuation from Gears of War 3, or do you like the idea of a prequel spin-off title instead to take the game in a completely different direction? Do you think the Unreal Engine 4 will be ready for this new Gears game or not?

With Sony and Microsoft seemingly out of the picture in terms of showing off next-gen hardware at this year’s E3 event, all eyes are on Nintendo to see if they company can convince consumers, for the second time, that the Wii U is the right console to own ahead of future products from Sony and Microsoft.

Their prospects of achieving this may have been dealt a small blow though, as it has been revealed that the impressive looking Unreal Engine 4 from Epic Games will not be supported by Nintendo’s new console. The information has come from none other than Geoff Keighley, who you are probably familiar with from his work on GameTrailers.

According to the host, Epic president Mike Capps has told him that the Nintendo Wii U will only be using the Unreal Engine 3, which is obviously old tech by today’s standards. The Unreal Engine 4 has yet to be officially unveiled, but all signs are pointing to an unveil at E3 2012 which starts in a few days time.

Consumers who are planning to buy the Nintendo Wii U regardless of its new showing at E3 may be disappointed to hear that Unreal Engine 4 powered games won’t be available on the system. Obviously there’s always the chance of this being a misinterpretation, but it isn’t looking good at the moment.

Hopefully this little matter will be cleared up at E3, when Epic has the chance to give a proper presentation on their new tech. Is the next Xbox 720 and PS4 safely in Epic’s plans as well, or are they focusing on showing off the potential on PC games initially?

Until Epic unveils the Unreal Engine 4, we have no idea of what type of games will be shown off first. The Wii U is obviously capable of playing AAA titles alongside the PS3 and Xbox 360 now, but is it such a big loss to the Wii U if it doesn’t support this engine? Let us know your thoughts on this folks.

Over the last few months we have had a steady stream of possible specs and the release date time frame for the next gen consoles from both Microsoft and Sony....

Over the last few months we have had a steady stream of possible specs and the release date time frame for the next gen consoles from both Microsoft and Sony. Today we have some more rumors of an E3 reveal of both the PS4 and Xbox 720, and will make this year’s E3 the biggest yet.

We have heard before that both companies would be revealing new hardware at this June’s event, only for the claims to be shot down from a various sources. Now today there are new claims coming in from a UK gaming magazine PSM3, which as Sillegamer are reporting the existence of a new Sony console. This comes after Sony President Kaz Hirai saying there will be no PS4 reveal at this year’s E3.

Previously the same claims were made by other sources that a new PlayStation console will make its first appearance at E3. It has also been claimed that Microsoft won’t be left out of the picture either and will reveal new hardware. All this will come with more news on the Nintendo Wii U that should finally provide an actual release date.

These rumors come after Epic Games Mark Rein recently revealed that the company would reveal the Unreal Engine 4 later this year. Now Gamer are reporting that Rein said that “people are going to be shocked later this year when they see Unreal Engine 4 and how much more profound an effect it will have”.

He went on to say that the Unreal Engine 4 was already running on “”systems we can’t name yet”, which could be new hardware from Sony and Microsoft. Obviously he could mean the Wii U but this console is already known about so surely he could name it. Also Epic already has the Unreal Engine 3 that runs games such as Gears of War 3 and Batman: Arkham City, so the company would want Unreal Engine 4 working with all the latest platforms.

Do you think Sony and Microsoft will be revealing new hardware at E3?
