During the Xbox 360 keynote at E3 2011 Microsoft announced that UFC pay-per-view events were coming to Xbox Live. Up until recently we were under the impression that the service would launch on the same date as the UFC 140: Jones vs. Machida event (December 10), however we can now confirm that there has been a delay.

We do not know why the delay has occurred, but what we do know is that it should now launch on December 20th. Mixed martial arts fans will probably have spotted that this now means the first-ever live UFC PPV on Xbox Live will take place on December 30th where Brock Lesnar will battle it out with Alistair Overeem at UFC 141.

To watch live events you will need a Gold Xbox Live membership and have a payment card linked to your Xbox Live account, yes that’s right you will not need Microsoft Points, instead you will use “real money”. Currently it is unclear as to how much a PPV will cost to stream, but we expect it to cost somewhere around $45-$60 per event – apparently there will be both HD and SD pricing options, HD videos will be streamed at 720p.

Not only will UFC on Xbox Live allow you to watch live events but you will also be able to watch event previews, weigh-ins, interviews, highlights and much more on demand. If that’s not enough for you there will be interactive fight cards where you can compare fighters records and stats against one-another, you can then make predictions and see how you faired against your friends via the leaderboards. One other thing to add is the fact that the UFC feature will be controllable via Kinect.

Hopefully Microsoft will now stick to this December 20th launch date as we can’t wait to try it out.

Will you watch UFC events on your Xbox 360?

When we first told gamers that there would be no UFC Undisputed release in 2011 there were lots of disappointed comments from our readers, however we can now finally confirm the release date for UFC Undisputed 3 and we have a neat trailer to show you.

Let’s start with the release date, according to MMAmania (and lots of other sources) the game will finally arrive on February 14, 2012. For those of you who haven’t noticed this is Valentine’s day, so perhaps start dropping some hints in early Feb and your loved one may pick up a copy for you in exchange for some flowers, chocolates and a romantic meal.

Most serious UFC fans will know how MMA has not always taken place inside the six-sides of the the octagon, in fact many of today’s most successful UFC fighters started their careers a decade or so ago in Pride FC. Today we can confirm that in UFC Undisputed 3 you will be able to battle it out in the traditional Pride squared-ring – we have embedded a trailer showing this at the bottom of this post.

Early in the video you see some video highlights from fighters such as Wanderlei Silva, Quinton Jackson, Cro Cop and many more iconic MMA fighters, Bas Rutten talks us through the trailer and towards the end we get to see some gameplay footage. It only lasts a few seconds but we think we see Don Frye, Cro Cop and Gary Goodridge. You can see the full Pride roster here, as you can see there are some legends missing such as Fedor Emelianenko.

We think that adding Pride to UFC Undisputed 3 and will further build on the solid foundations set by Undisputed 2009 and 2010. What aspects of the game would you like to see improved this time around?

Remember the video can be seen below.

Sports and fitness-related video games are becoming quite popular these days, with more and more people choosing this option over an expensive gym membership. The great thing about fitness games – such as Get Fit with Mel B, Zumba Fitness, Wii Fit Plus, EA Sports Active 2 and Your Shape – is the fact that they literally cater for everyone, no matter what level of fitness you are at.

One fitness-related video game that comes highly recommended by the reviewers however, is the much-anticipated UFC Personal Trainer game. In fact, according to BLACKBIBLE over on the gamerfitnation.com website, UFC Personal Trainer – which is developed by Heavy Iron Studios and published by THQ – is the greatest fitness game ever, and deserving of its perfect 10/10 rating.

Not only does the UFC Personal Trainer game detect all your movements with pen-point accuracy, but it also detects power, speed and pace. Working with mixed martial arts trainers will be a big help when it comes to reaching your fitness goals, as you will receive a lot of encouragement along the way. The great thing about this game is that training gets harder the further you progress.

Meanwhile, Squid over on the gamentrain.com website gave the UFC Personal Trainer game an overall score of 4.5 out of 5. According to this reviewer, the UFC Personal Trainer game is like a gym, a trainer, a motivational tool, fitness manual and a guideline all on one disc. Each coach in the game has workout programs built around their styles and teaching techniques, so gamers will have plenty of routines to choose from.

A great part of this game is the ‘Player Tracker,’ which enables users to track a number of different things including their goals and personal rewards. Although this reviewer notes that the game does have some minor flaws, they still highly recommend it. Greg Ellwood from the entertainment-focus.com website also gave the UFC Personal Trainer game an impressive overall score of 4 out of 5.

The game menus in the UFC Personal Trainer game can all be navigated either with your arms, a controller or by voice command. Another interesting part of the game is the fact that if you don’t fancy doing any of the predefined workouts, it does have a custom section that will enable you to create your own. Players even have the option of saving their created routine to use at a later date.

One important point that Greg makes is the fact that the UFC Personal Trainer game does expect you to have a fairly decent-sized room, and you will need to stand quite far back from the Kinect sensor. Although Greg did come across a few issues while playing the game (such as freezing up for a few seconds during a routine), he still classes it as one of the best fitness games he’s played.

You can read the full reviews via the links we’ve provided. Will you be buying the UFC Personal Trainer game?

If you was looking forward to the release of UFC 2012 this year we have some massive news for you today, there will be no UFC video game release in 2011, also it looks like the next game will be called UFC 3.

This news comes courtesy of VideoGamer, THQ’s core games boss, Danny Bilson, recently tweeted “Saw a killer demo of UFC 3 this week” and added “Will blow people away at E3″. Prior to this game an annual release schedule was preferred, however now it looks like an 18-month development cycle suits the publishers more.

The tweets confirm that there will be a playable demo at E3 2011 and from this we predict a demo will hit Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network before the game’s official release date, we are led to believe that this will occur during Q1 2012.

With pressure from EA MMA it seems as if the next UFC release has significant importance for the future of the game series, we can’t wait to see what will “wow” us at E3 2011. We think that the ground game, career mode and graphics could all be touched up next time round, how about you?

Who do you think should be UFC 3′s coverstar? Let us know in the comment section below.

The growth of social networks seems to be unstoppable, well at least for some of those networks. The Social Network movie opened people’s eyes to the ‘Facebook’ story, even if it may not be an exact recount on what happened. In 2011 it will be more important for companies to use social media for promoting their brands than any year before.

If you’ve been to a social media event – like Social Media World Forum – then you will already know a little about what brands are doing with social media, and this ranges from Coca-Cola to UFC.

Last night saw UFC 127 take place, and the results for their Facebook uptake is pretty impressive, at the time of writing we are seeing 4,830,188 fans of their Facebook page. UFC are promoting their Facebook page by offering free viewing of certain fights, all you have to do is ‘Like’ their page.

UFC President Dana White has been promoting the social media idea, and we’ve seen him explain that Facebook and UFC are here to stay in the past, which is great for international viewers. China’s Zhang opened up the UFC 127 fights on Facebook, and this ended in a win, which also highlights a reason for UFC to enter social media marketing in this way. China has a strong martial arts background, and is an untapped MMA market, this may be partly the reason Zhang’s fight was made available on Facebook.

There are a number of reasons that UFC will want to use Facebook, and other social media marketing. Top of the list would be fan engagement, UFC will be able to connect with fans and they get to talk back to UFC, although this can have management problems too. Another reason would be brand credibility, its good to see UFC moving with the times and connecting via popular social networks like Facebook.

Do you love the idea of UFC giving fans free fights? What do you want to see UFC do next with Facebook? You can view the results of UFC 127 here, or read more about Facebook.

Fighters Uncaged is a new game developed by Ubisoft exclusively for the Xbox 360′s Kinect, now they are being sued by MMA powerhouses UFC. Now you might be wondering why they would have anything to do with a computer game company. Lets have a look at why.

According to Wesley Yin-Poole over at Eurogamer UFC are suing them for a the term “the Ultimate Fighting Weapon” this all sounds a bit crazy but when you start to look a little deeper you start to understand why they want the game and all copies removed.

There is a parent company of Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) called Zuffa, the parent company has a partnership with THQ and what do THQ make? That’s right, they make the UFC branded games because they have the licensing to do so. Perhaps THQ are trying to keep the market dominance for this genre.

Zuffa are angling towards Fighter’s Uncaged breaking it’s good reputation by it’s style of game, Fighters Uncaged is mainly about fighting in the streets which is not the image that the UFC want to be brandished with. If you want to learn more about Fighters Uncaged then you can head over to their homepage here.

When we read the article on Eurogamer, we noticed an interesting comment on there that has some substance with UFC’s recent rise in popularity, the comment was made by Shikasama and they said the following…

They have a point, it is obvious what they are trying to do with the way the words are presented on the back of the box.
Also, it is important that they aren’t associated with this type of game. It was a long hard fight to get sanctioned in most US states and New York is still proving ignorantly stubborn. Any association like this can potentially cost the UFC millions. When you are fighting a misguided perception, you shouldn’t just sit back and let any company that fancies abusing your trademark to ruin that work.

At the bottom of this article we have included a couple of videos, they are the launch trailers for Fighters Uncaged and UFC Undisputed 2010. We will keep you updated with any further proceedings but please let your thoughts on this be known in the comments below.

UFC 118 was held in Boston at the TD Garden, and has now finished with the full play by play results being shown online. If you’re a mobile phone user you may want a dose of UFC while on the move, especially results round-by-round.

We thought we would post a few options that currently exist for readers on mobile devices. First up would be the Ultimate Fighting Championship app that can be found via the Apple iTunes store, although this may not be as informative as some of the popular MMA news websites.

Sherdog always publish a good play-by-play, and UFC 118 is no different but what if you’re on a mobile device? The UFC 118 results can be found on their site here, but mobile users can visit sherdog.com/wap and get the full recap, watch video interviews, and a lot more.

Personally we feel it’s time Sherdog launched a dedicated iPhone / iPod touch / iPad app, would you like to see the popular MMA site release an app with better features?

MMA Junkie is another popular site that has also listed the full UFC 118 results, and these guys have an iOS and BlackBerry app. While it could do with a lot more features, we have found it one of the best options from MMA news sites.

How do you get your UFC fix on mobile devices? Do you know a better solution for mobile users?

The UFC 117 results are now in but how did the diehard UFC fans watch last night’s event in Oakland, California? One way was to use the official Ultimate Fighting Championship app, which costs only $1 for iPod touch and iPhone.

MobiTV then charge $6 for archived fights and $45 for a live UFC stream, which is the same price you pay via a cable company. Should a small mobile screen pay the same price as a big screen?

MacWorld has taken a look at the UFC app, in their review they said diehard fans “may be interested” in the applications features that include live tweet updates from the fighters, win-loss records, video highlights, schedules for all upcoming pay-per-view UFC events, and live streaming.

The reviewer said casual fans and newcomers “won’t find much to hold their interest”, with the biggest letdown being “lack of content”. The real advantage comes with live streaming of events such as last nights UFC 117 but that comes at an extra cost. MacWorld point to the iPad’s bigger screen as a possible advantage, but sadly the iPad is not supported at this time with only the 2x mode.

Diehard UFC Fans – live streaming via an iOS device, is it worth it?

For those of you unable to get to a TV this morning to learn what the results were for last nights UFC 113 event, then fear not as you can access all the information you need via the official Ultimate Fighting Championship app on the Apple iPhone and RIM BlackBerry handsets.

This action packed application not only offers you all the latest play-by-play results but news highlights and fighter videos to go with it. You can even watch live pay-per-view events on your smartphones – ideal if you are away from home or not near a computer. Both apps are free to download, which you can download from iTunes for the iPhone and Handmark for the Blackberry.

One question does remain – were there any shocks with the fights at last night’s event? The big fight of the night was between Lyoto Machida and Mauricio “Shogun” Rua – Mauricio won the fight via a knockout, which certainly came as a surprise to the contender.
