UK missing out on Sony PS3 Movies & TV Shows
July 17, 2008 by Daniel

Sony was proud to announce it’s new PlayStation Video store for the PSN at E3 2008, and then in the evening they made the service Live on the Playstation 3 with more than 1,200 pieces of TV content and 300 movies.
There was no 2.42 firmware update needed, if you have 2.41 on your PS3 then you will be able to view the store just fine in the United States and this is where many will be unhappy.
The rest of Europe and the UK have still got a limited amount of video content today, while the US PSN has movies from movie studios like Warner Bros., Paramount Pictures, MGM, Lionsgate, Disney, 20th Century Fox and obviously Sony Pictures.
There are a lot of people in Europe and it amazes me how they get left out for some time on new launches, is it just me who finds this true?
Some forums have been alive with posts asking where the PS3 movie download store is, the reason for this was the fact that its only a tiny capsule icon in the upper left hand corner next to Games.
Once you click this on the US PSN, you will find a selection that’s broken down to Top Downloads (empty at the moment), Purchase, Rental, and Available in HD, Anime, Television, Movies and New Arrivals.
The service could do with more information like IMDB has, although you do get basic info like release dates, cast info, language, size and length.
The only other problem we can find is with high definition video, it seems that you cannot buy HD content and only rent it. Once you rent a HD video/movie you get 14 days to view it, but be aware that if you start playing the file then you have to watch within 24 hours.
If you live in Europe, are you bothered that you cannot access the new movie download service yet on the PS3?

It has been reported that The Wombles of Wimbledon Common have decided to move to New York and get themselves American accents because they are protesting against imported children’s TV shows.
The Producers Alliance for Cinema and Television have made the film to highlight what they say is a threat to British programmes. Bernard Cribbins who was the voice of the original Wombles supports this campaign. Bernard said that “Tell those Wombles in government we need to start making British programmes for British kids again before it’s too late.”
