For those of us who don’t want to join the iPad party the Asus Transformer Prime is often at the top of some consumers wish lists. There have been some issues with the Nvidia Tegra 3 powered device though since it was released, and Asus finally confirms the Transformer Prime reboot bug.

At the beginning of last month issues with the Transformer Prime came to light with regards to the device’s GPS feature. But it was when the Android Ice Cream Sandwich update was rolled out to the device that the real problems began. Firstly owners reported problems trying to even download the new operating system.

Users complained that the software wouldn’t recognize their Transformer Prime serial number so wouldn’t complete the download. But when users managed to upgrade the software they were left with a strange problem with the device suddenly rebooting itself unexpectedly. Now Asus has acknowledged the problem and according to the Inquirer the company is pushing out an update that it hopes will fix the issue.

The device has also experienced low stock with some retailers as consumers clamber to get hold of the tablet PC. Not all users have had issues with the reboot issue though, and Asus have also revealed that the original Transformer will be getting Android 4.0 later this month.

Asus have also announced via its Facebook page that more stock of the Transformer Prime should be hitting retailers pretty soon. This comes after online retailer Clove removed the device from their virtual shelves in response to the reported problems. Asus meanwhile have repeatedly denied there are any hardware problems with the Transformer Prime.

Besides the early software issues the Prime has been well received so far, and is arguably the best tablet PC currently on offer on the Android platform. The fact it comes powered by the quad core Tegra 3 processor allows for a slick performance. Some have said though the screen isn’t quite as good to what is found on the current iPad. Below we have a video review of the device as well as one highlighting the reboot issue.

Do you have the Transformer Prime? What do you think of it?

Consumers in the US are expecting to be able to get their hands on the next tablet PC from Asus in the coming days. This comes after speculation that the device was to be delayed after some issues with the Wi-Fi feature of the device. Today we have some news of the UK Transformer Prime release date and price after per-orders go live.

The Nvidia Tegra 3 running tablet PC has been given a price of £499, and according to Cnet the Prime should be launching sometime next month after pre-orders have begun. You would have thought that Asus would have got the device out to consumers before the busy Christmas period though.

If you can’t wait for the latest Transformer from Asus the company has dropped the price for the original version to £299. We have already told you that the Prime will launch running Android Honeycomb, but will be getting updated to Ice Cream Sandwich early next month so maybe UK versions will have it straight out of the box.

The device will come with the powerful Tegra 3 quad-core processor and a 12-core GeForce GPU. One of the devices big selling points is the keyboard that joins together with the tablet to form a laptop. This comes with the Transformer Prime at £499, but currently the Prime is not available on its own.

Attaching the dock lets you get up to eighteen hours of battery life, and without it this drops to twelve hours. The device weighs only 586g and is only 8.3mm in thickness with its toughened Gorilla Glass screen.

You also get an 8-megapixel camera that is capable of 1080p video capture, with a front mounted 1.2-megapixel shooter for video calls. Storage wise you get 32GB built-in along with a microSD input to increase this further. On top of this you also get 8GB of free cloud storage available for life from Asus, and it comes in champagne gold or amethyst grey colors.

Would you pay £500 for a Transformer Prime?

A few days ago we gave you the news that the next tablet PC from Asus was still on schedule to launch in the US before the end of the year. This followed rumors it had been delayed due to some Wi-Fi issues were found. Now we have a possible Transformer Prime Android 4.0 date that has been outed before release of the device.

According to an article over at TechRadar the Transformer Prime will be receiving Android Ice Cream Sandwich in January following claims from alleged Asus insiders. The device is set to ship with Android Honeycomb straight out of the box, but it won’t be long for the operating system gets updated to the latest version of Android.

The device is thought to be launching in the coming days in the US, but for consumers in the UK the release date is a bit vaguer. It is believed consumers in the country will have to wait until the first quarter of 2012, so they may get the device already running Android 4.0.

The latest Android operating system from Google is the first to tie in smartphones and tablet PCs, and the search engine giant is hoping the operating system will start helping the platforms fragmentation problems it currently sees.

Only last month we had a video for you that showed the original Asus Transformer running Android Ice Cream Sandwich. It may not be powered by the desirable Tegra 3 processor like the upcoming Prime, but the device is still a worthy contender in the crowded tablet PC market.

Are you planning on purchasing the Transformer Prime?

When we first began talking about the ASUS Eee Pad Transformer’s successor we were excited to hear that it would feature one of Nvidia’s Kal-El Tegra 3 processors, well we have just come across some outstanding benchmark results which prove that this tablet is in a league of its own.

Recently an article was posted on tech2.in.com featured an image showing AnTuTu benchmark results, here we get to see the results of lots of Android tablets and smartphones, however everything has been overshadowed by the results which the ASUS Transformer Prime delivered.

The AnTuTu benchmark tests out your Android device’s memory, CPU, 2D / 3D graphics and database IO performance – it also tests out the SD card read / write speeds. In the tests it is clear that the CPU Integer, CPU float-point and RAM performance is head and shoulders above anything we have ever seen before. You can see the benchmark results below.

If you look carefully you will see that the Prime reaches AnTuTu’s 10,000 point limit, therefore we can’t be sure just how much higher the score would be if there was no maximum score. What’s interesting is that the Galaxy Nexus and Galaxy S II scored just 6000 in the same test, neither of these devices are considered slow, which means the Transformer Prime is unfathomably fast.

The results also give us some insight as to how much faster the Prime performs when compared to other tablets, the Motorola Xoom and original Transformer score less than 5000 in the benchmark test, however we have to remember that benchmark results do not always equate to real-world performance. That said, we must not forget that this tablet has not even been released yet, therefore new firmware updates may improve things even further.

When previously speaking about the Kal-El platform we heard that it will deliver great performance, and we now have evidence of this, however we have also been promised low power consumption, therefore we can’t wait to see just how much battery life you will get from a single charge.

Do you think that this tablet will set the standard for others to follow?
