As we all know by now Toyota has had a pretty bad year when it comes to recalls, their issues with reported “unintended acceleration” caused a barrage of finger pointing and lawsuits being filed. Here at PR News we have tried to keep you updated with anything new in regards to Toyota, with reports on new recall lists and announced legal proceedings.

A press release has now been issued by Toyota stating that over five million vehicles have had their issues resolved. These vehicles had been involved in the three main recalls, 1.8 million with sticking accelerator pedals, 3.1 million regarding floor mat interference and finally, 128,000 Prius and Lexus models with updated ABS software. This blitz is part of the auto manufacturers new safety and quality standards.

According to Toyota, from 2011 all of its range will be fitted as standard with a new “Smart Stop” system, which works as a brake override protection device. Added to this the Japanese company has announced the opening of a new North American training facility, designed to help staff deal with customer complaints. There will also be new quality control checks put into place to avoid any defective hardware being released.

So with Toyota rectifying its problem areas and setting itself up for a fresh start in the new year, it would seem that the company is determined to get back on the right track. To see the full press release from Toyota check out Autoblog.

Toyota in Brazil have now agreed to recall a number of its Corolla vehicles manufactured from April 2008 – 2010. This is in conjunction with the sudden acceleration problems that have affected other models – this is the first time that the Brazilian arm of the Japanese automaker has issued a recall due to this problem.

According to RAC, it is not known how many vehicles will be affected by this recall, but they did explain that more than 55,000 Toyota Corollas were sold last year. So the number of recalls could hit near the 100,000 mark, depending on sales in 2008 and in 2010 so far.

We know that sudden acceleration has been a huge problem for Toyota, with a fix still ongoing. More than 8 million vehicles have been recalled – so takes a long time to get through them all. We all know how the floor mat can get in the way of the accelerator pedal and stop it from returning back to its resting position. For those who do not, here is all the latest on the Toyota recall situation.

Yesterday troubled Japanese automaker; Toyota agreed to pay a record fine of $16.4 million over the recent recall scandal. However, they announced that they would not admit any wrongdoing. The U.S. government must have agreed to it as the fine is to be paid within 30 days.

Autoblog learned from Detroit News that the fine could have been $6,000 per vehicle that was involved in the recall, which would have amounted to $13.8 billion – so Toyota got of light considering. This is the largest civil fine ever imposed by the U.S. government; let us hope that lessons have been learned

Toyota has been open about the recent troubles regarding brake and accelerator pedal issues, saying that they could have done a better job. The largest automaker in the world is now taking steps that something like this will never happen again.

This does seem funny considering they have now issued another recall for its Lexus GX 460 SUV, which you can read more about in our recent post.
