If it wasn’t bad enough that Tomb Raider DLC is timed-exclusive on Microsoft’s Xbox 360 console, we have some further disappointing news overall regarding DLC for PS3 gamers as well. Crystal Dynamics, developers for the game have said that future DLC for the game will all be multiplayer-based, with no plans at the moment to bring single-player DLC to the game.

Considering that the single-player campaign isn’t the longest by any means, this may be taken as a huge disappointment to those who are wondering when the next single player expansion is coming. If you aren’t already aware, the Caves and Cliffs DLC is already out on Xbox 360, but now you can expect more multiplayer DLC to come out afterwards.

The bombshell was revealed over at Reddit, during a Q&A segment with Crystal Dynamics brand manager Karl Stewart. Given that Tomb Raider was originally all about the single-player exploration in the old days, is it a bit worrying that Square-Enix and Crystal Dynamics have now shifted the focus to just releasing new multiplayer maps in the mold of a Call of Duty game?

Looking at some of the initial feedback, it seems like the majority of you would settle for a new variety of tombs to explore, over new multiplayer maps every time. We’ve even seen some Tomb Raiders say that it would tempt them into a Season Pass purchase if more tombs became available – Square-Enix, are you listening to this?

As it stands though, it is multiplayer add-ons only. If you are still playing Tomb Raider regularly and thought that the single-player mode was a little on the short side, give us your opinions on the DLC direction for the game.

We have some important news for those of you who have just picked up a copy of the excellent Tomb Raider game. While some of you may have already completed the single player campaign, there is also a multiplayer mode to get stuck into. We’ve just had confirmation that the first piece of DLC for the game has been detailed, and is also going to be releasing first on Xbox 360 as another Microsoft exclusive.

Microsoft really has some bargaining powers it seems, as Tomb Raider is the latest game in 2013 to succumb to the latest money talks trend. The first piece of add-on content for the game will be called Caves & Cliffs and will be releasing very soon on March 19.

This multiplayer content will add three new maps to the game, already identified as Scavenger Caverns, Cliff Shantytown and Burning Village. As noted on the offcial Tomb Raider blog, these three new maps will be playable on all four multiplayer modes in the game – Rescue, Cry for Help, Team Deathmatch, and Free for All.

If you are interested in picking ths up, it will be priced at 400 Microsoft Points upon release. At the moment, there is no word at all on when this will be landing on the PS3 and PC. Is it going to be a standard month’s wait like Skyrim and Call of Duty content?

We thought that the whole timed-exclusivity bandwagon would ease up a little as we enter the next-generation of consoles phase. However, based on this instance – it doesn’t look like slowing down any time soon. If you have the PS3 or PC version of the game, let us know your thoughts on Tomb Raider going exclusive with Microsoft.

It looks like a certain number of retailers and supermarkets in the UK have been very naughty indeed. Tomb Raider is not due to go on sale until Tuesday officially, but we’ve learned that many gamers were able to snap up the game days, in some cases weeks early. The question is – are you one of the lucky ones?

The Tomb Raider reboot is definitely one of the gaming highlights of March, along with the new Sim City game and Bioshock Infinite that are also due out this month. Crystal Dynamics have spent a long time developing the game, and the reviews seem to justify this with impressive scores from a lot of the top gaming websites.

While it is great that Tomb Raider has a global release date for a change, we doubt Square-Enix or Crystal Dynamics will be too impressed that the street date has been treated with total disregard. We’re already hearing that UK supermarket Tesco started selling the game early over the weekend, while some have even received their game before that and have completed the campaign mode already.

We doubt Tesco was the only seller giving away copies early though, so where did you manage to get yours from if you received the game early? For those who pre-ordered well before the launch date, but have yet to receive the game, this is likely to be a bit of a kick in the teeth, as it just goes to show that walk-ins can often produce the goods if some employees are not aware of the launch date in place.

Either way, it looks like the reboot was a success for Crystal Dynamics and we could be seeing a sequel in the not too distant future. Let us know if you received the game early and if you are happy with the remake after such a long wait.

If you are planning to pick up the highly anticipated Tomb Raider game when it releases at the beginnning of March, then there’s no doubt that you will be eagerly anticipating the collection of Tomb Raider reviews that will pour out prior to the game’s release.

Usually we would only see reviews released a few days before a game is launched due to publisher embargo, but you’ll be pleased to hear that the first official Tomb Raider has been completed and compiled by the GameMaster magazine.

Even better, is that it looks like the game is going to be well worth the long development time, as GamesMaster has given the Tomb Raider reboot by Crystal Dynamics a glowing 90/100 review score. They have said that ‘Lara Croft is back’, even questioning how the developers are going to top the game since it is so good.

More importantly for you though, they have revealed the estimated time that it will take you to go through the main campaign mode in the game. According to the publication, Tomb Raider will take around 10 to 15 hours to complete, which is pretty respectable in our opinion.

They have also said that exploration factors in the game will also add an extra 5 hours for those that want to go one step further to find all of the game’s secrets on the island. It goes without saying that a 90/100 score is very impressive for the first review of the game.

Is this a sign of good things to come when all of the other reviews come out for Tomb Raider? Let us know if this is a day-one buy for you, or if you’ll wait until further reviews have been released. Pick up the latest issue of GamesMaster to read the review in full.

Tomb Raider Wii U snub could be due to hardware differences http://www.product-reviews.net/2013/01/30/tomb-raider-wii-u-snub-could-be-due-to-hardware-differences/ http://www.product-reviews.net/2013/01/30/tomb-raider-wii-u-snub-could-be-due-to-hardware-differences/#comments Wed, 30 Jan 2013 03:06:30 +0000 Alan Ng http://www.product-reviews.net/?p=157023 tomb-raider-wii-u-versionThe upcoming Tomb Raider reboot is going to be one of the highlights on PS3, Xbox 360 and PC when it is released later on this March. The upcoming Tomb Raider reboot is going to be one of the highlights on PS3, Xbox 360 and PC when it is released later on this March. As you may have guessed though, the Wii U is missing from that list and there’s bound to be a lot of disappointed gamers who bought Nintendo’s new console at launch thinking that they wouldn’t be left out of the multiplatform party any more.

The pleasing news is that Crystal Dynamics are well are well aware of the anger that may arise when the game arrives in March. Creative director for the company Noah Hughes has attempted to give some reasoning behind the Wii U’s exclusion, as he’s said that ultimately, they didn’t want to create a bog standard port without giving it their full attention.

Hughes has said that the new Wii U hardware provides some unique gameplay opportunities and that they would need to spend extra time in order to give the Wii U version the time it deserves. He added that at the moment, the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC deliver the same experience and they wouldn’t want to risk doing something ‘half-heartedly’ that they could regret in the future.

What do you make of his comments? We’ve seen that the Wii U can already handle third-party games such as Black Ops 2 and Assassin’s Creed 3 just fine, so are you still a bit disappointed that Tomb Raider isn’t coming as well? Let’s hope we don’t see a similar story throughout the year where developers opt to leave out the Wii U as they release their multiplatform games.

We don’t want to repeat the same thing over, but it looks like the very same thing has happened with GTA V. Is it basically due to the Nintendo Wii U hardware that developers still don’t want to commit fully into it?

There is a lot of anticipation in the upcoming Tomb Raider reboot, which is due to hit consoles during the early part of 2013. The main focus of the game is obviously going to be in the single player mode to follow with series tradition, but we may have had an early confirmation that Crystal Dynamics, the developers for the game, are also planning to include a multiplayer mode in Tomb Raider. This is going to be a questionable talking point for fans, especially since we are also hearing that it may have similarities to the Uncharted multiplayer formula that you’ll find in current versions on PS3.

The new game is going to be a complete reboot, now under the ownership of Square-Enix and will not carry on in any way with the original games which became so popular on the PS1. Screenshots released so far have provided real promise that Tomb Raider could be one of the standout games of 2013 and the inclusion of multiplayer could be an indication that Crystal Dynamics want to make Tomb Raider as much of a complete game as possible.

While some fans would be happy with just a well thought out and detailed single player mode, it now looks like there is going to be a multiplayer mode bundled on top as well. It hasn’t been made official by Square-Enix yet, but UK retailer GAME has jumped the gun by revealing multiplayer on their online game listing. According to some of the details which have now been removed, multiplayer modes will be playable using either ”Lara’s Shipmates or Yamatai’s Scavengers”.

The danger of course, is whether Crystal Dynamics have just thrown in a multiplayer mode for the sake of it. If so, gamers will be hoping that there has been a lot of effort put into it and it isn’t just a rehash of the run and gun formula that we see in Uncharted – although it is fairly enjoyable in some instances we have to say.

How do you feel about a multiplayer mode in the Tomb Raider reboot? Do you welcome this news if it’s true and do you have no problems if it is based on Uncharted’s multiplayer mode? Hopefully Crystal Dynamics will reveal the mode soon considering that the game is not far off a release in March.

Tomb Raider delay bad, impressive new screenshot great http://www.product-reviews.net/2012/05/14/tomb-raider-delay-bad-impressive-new-screenshot-great/ http://www.product-reviews.net/2012/05/14/tomb-raider-delay-bad-impressive-new-screenshot-great/#comments Mon, 14 May 2012 13:55:45 +0000 Alan Ng http://www.product-reviews.net/?p=150372 For all of you Twitter hipsters out there who are wondering why Tomb Raider is currently trending on Twitter, allow us to elaborate. It’s not good news unfortunately, as the reboot game being developed by Crystal Dynamics has now been delayed into 2013.

We haven’t heard too many details on the game since its unveiling at E3 2011 and now we know why. The game simply isn’t ready and just like we have recently seen for Bioshock Infinite, Tomb Raider will now skip its intended Fall 2012 release for the first quarter of 2013 instead.

As you probably expected to hear, it’s once again the usual reasons behind the delay as well. Crystal Dynamics are aiming to deliver the ‘highest quality game’ and develop something which is going to be the best they have ever created and something they can be proud of.

While the release date delay is obviously a major downer for those hoping to play it later on this year, there is one bit of positive news to bring you. Square-Enix has released a brand new screenshot of the game and it looks fantastic. There’s a lot of divided opinion on whether this reboot is a good idea or not, but seeing this image in particular should be an indication on how high the bar has been set by Crystal Dynamics.

Gone are the memorable PS1 days of Lara Croft and now we look forward to seeing a new style of gameplay – similar in a way in how the Devil May Cry reboot by Ninja Theory has progressed as well. Take a look at the new image above and give us your thoughts on the delay.

Is it a big blow to you, or are you happy to pick up the game in 2013 instead? Don’t forget that there will be so many other games to keep you busy during the Fall period, you’ll just have to make do without the new look Lara until next year.

Tomb Raider: New Game Details Unveiled http://www.product-reviews.net/2011/05/01/tomb-raider-new-game-details-unveiled/ http://www.product-reviews.net/2011/05/01/tomb-raider-new-game-details-unveiled/#comments Sun, 01 May 2011 10:02:21 +0000 Tina Chubb http://www.product-reviews.net/?p=129195 If you’re already quite hyped up about Crystal Dynamics’ much-awaited Tomb Raider reboot, which is currently in development for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, then the chances are you’re going to be even more hyped when you hear some of the new game details that have recently been unveiled.

As you know this does mean spoilers, so if you really don’t want to know any more, stop reading now. According to a recent article by Debabrata Nath at vg247.com, Spanish magazine Hobby Consolas has recently revealed a number of details about the upcoming Tomb Raider game.

For example, the new game will in fact be a complete reboot, with the development, main story and even the game’s main character all being restarted from scratch. The new Tomb Raider’s story is said to revolve around a young Lara Croft, who will be depicted as a teenager just out of university.

Lara Croft will have a ‘Survival Instinct’ in the new Tomb Raider game. By pressing a specific button, players will be able to activate a special view that will put a different color to certain elements in the environment. Puzzles will also be more complex than in previous Tomb Raider titles.

A French magazine called Consoles has also revealed a few new details about the upcoming game, including the fact that the adventure is divided into three ‘big’ episodes: survive, rescue and escape. Lara will only be able to use the ‘Survival Instinct’ feature when standing still.

You can read more about the new Tomb Raider game via the vg247.com website. Are you hyped up about the game’s arrival?

New Tomb Raider: Rejuvenated Lara Aims For Uncharted http://www.product-reviews.net/2011/02/11/new-tomb-raider-rejuvenated-lara-aims-for-uncharted/ http://www.product-reviews.net/2011/02/11/new-tomb-raider-rejuvenated-lara-aims-for-uncharted/#comments Fri, 11 Feb 2011 00:52:47 +0000 Chris Cook http://www.product-reviews.net/?p=121562 Lara Croft has been one of the most influential characters in the gaming industry since Tomb Raider began in 1996. Her bravery, brains and her pair of physical attributes have always defined the game, setting it aside from other 3rd person platform games.

Although Lara’s physical appearance never lost its interest CVG say the game itself novelty faded. This is why Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics both decided to give the archeologist a makeover.

The new rejuvenated 21 year old Lara will yet again go on an adventure, this time to get out of a hellish situation. More about the game can be read at CVG here.

The release of the new game Tomb Raider would find itself directly compared to the successful franchise which has of late overtaken the Tomb Raider franchise. CVG list both games in their list of 7 best action games ever saying the fact that Uncharted is compared to Tomb Raider is a compliment. Check out which other games made it in their list.

What do you think of the new Tomb Raider? Will the new look Lara be enough to topple Uncharted off its throne?
