We have seen over the past year that consumers have demanded more performance from smartphones, so the likes of HTC, Samsung and Motorola has obliged. However, there had to be a trade-off, and that was with battery power, as these handsets are not lasting like they once did. One of the worst offenders from all the latest phones has to be the HTC ThunderBolt, which has still not received the Gingerbread update that Verizon had promised.

Thankfully help is at hand, as there are 5 easy ways for you to improve your Android battery. Some are minor tweaks, whereas others will require you to download an app, but IntoMobile believes that this is a small price to pay in order to get more out of that battery.

Your first step is to install the Power Control app; this has to be installed to the phone and not the memory card, as it needs to be able to access certain features of the phone. This app makes it much simpler to turn off certain features that are known battery intensive with just the click of a button.

The next step is to adjust your mail app settings, as it is set to retrieve your mail all day by default. The thing is this is pointless and would be much better for the battery if you set it for once every hour, or even get your mail manually, as I do. One of the biggest drains is the screen, which has become a huge problem since screens have gotten much larger. All you need do is reduce the brightness of the screen so that it is still comfortable for you to read text etc.

The fourth tip is to find a few smart power setting apps. Instead of you having to turn off Bluetooth, Wi-Fi etc manually there are some apps that can turn different features off at certain times of the day. Finally when you have to update any apps, you should wait and do this when you are next to a power source, that way you will not drain the battery. We hope that these five tips are of use to you, and if you have any other helpful hints, then please feel free to share them with our readers.

Each year there are only a handful of cars that stand out amongst the rest, and it is those models that then get a special edition version. You know that when you get one of these special edition vehicles they will not only look better, but will also offer greater performance and handling. We thought this would be the perfect time to choose what we believe are five of the best.

Top of the list has to be the 2012 Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Special Edition. Ok, so we know that this is not a practical one, but we had to give this the number one spot, as it is at the pinnacle of what we can achieve on an engineering level for a production car. The $1.6 million price is proof that Bugatti has thrown everything into the design of the Veyron SS, and being the fastest production car is proof of that.

If you are looking for a much cheaper limited edition model then how about the 2012 Porsche Cayman S Black Edition? Everything about this car has a dark side’ those air intakes and large wheels are ready for whatever the road can throw at you. There are only 500 models in total, and all have 330 horsepower at their disposal. The best feature has to be the price, as $67.500 is more respectable.

Sticking with that black theme is the 2012 Volkswagen Black Turbo Launch Edition. Now some of you may think that spending $24,950 on a Beetle is a lot of money, but not when you consider that the engine powering this little beast is a 2.0-liter turbocharged unit that pushes out 200hp. Both the clutch and transmission has been upgraded to handle the extra power, as has the wheels and brakes.

Next up we have the 2011 BMW M3 “Frozen Black” Special Edition, which were limited to just 20. The $81,825 price tag does give you a lot of features for the money though, which includes the Competition Package. However, the Frozen Black Edition takes things up a notch with its Premium Package 2, which means that BMW has thrown everything but the kitchen sink into this model.

There is one car that has spawned a number of limited edition models since it went into production. That car is the Fiat 500, and over the past few of years we have seen a great number of specials, but choosing the best is a little tough. There was the Abarth, Matt Black, Gucci, Pink, Prima Edizione and many more.

What is the best limited edition vehicle ever?

Some of you may wonder why on earth we would want to talk about the facts of fruit or vegetables on a technology website, but when you consider that you can use your iPhone to learn about them it all starts to make sense. There are a number of apps on the App Store that will not only teach you the nutritional value, but also show you recipes as well.

One of the most important apps has to be “Kids Can Learn Fruits And Vegetables,” as it teaches you at a young age how important these foods are. Some children often go into a supermarket and look a little puzzled at all the different fruits and vegetables on show – even some of us adults struggle at times. Kids eat far too much junk food, so they need to know what foods are healthy for them. This app has 60 different fruits and vegetables, so allows you to familiarize yourself with them, and you can even score yourself on your knowledge.

Next up we have “Medicinal Power Of Vegetables by Kanchan Kabra,” which is a book. There are so many different vegetables that you can eat, but it is often hard to know which ones can do what for your health. There are those that can help to reduce the acidity and cholesterol in your body, knowing these will be invaluable. The app costs just $2.99, which is very cheap when you consider that this book will also teach you how to make medicines to cure certain illnesses by cooking certain vegetables.

The vegetables that we buy in our local stores today are not as good for you as they once were, this is because of the chemicals used to make them grow quicker and to keep pests away. You could buy organic, but as they are more expensive will be much harder to purchase the amount that you need. However, there is a solution, grow your own; the “A Guide to Growing Vegetables” app will be able to help you. This gives you useful tips when it comes to growing your own, such as which vegetables you can grow with your soil type, how to sow and also crop rotation. The cost of this app is $3.99.

Finally we have the “Magic of Vegetables,” which costs $4.99. This is a little more expensive than the others, so you would expect the app to offer much more. Once you have finished reading this book you should have a greater understanding of vegetables. Remember there is no substitute for this healthy food type, so try not to supplement them with pills.

Since the first automobile was invented there have been a number of automotive innovations that have changed the world. When we look back at some of these we have to wonder what would we do without them, and what would have taken their place if some clever inventor did not come up with their design? Some that we will list are very obvious, but there are some that you would not even have thought was a major invention, not until we remind you.

The first automobiles came from Europe, but it was not until the US took an interest that these strange devices started to get the attention that they deserved. It was Ford that changed the world with their Model T range, and the other big two Detroit auto companies were not far behind coming up with their own take on the automobile, but Model T would take some beating.

The Motorcycle was a great alternative to the car, as it was not only cheaper and easier to produce, but was also more practical, as they were able to handle the rough terrain much easier – only because there were more wide-open spaces back then. You have to wonder why this mode of transport was not invented earlier, as the first motorcycle was just a bicycle with just a steam boiler on it?

Now that you have a car that travels faster than a horse and carriage you will need something to keep that windshield clear when it rains, so thank god that the windshield wiper was invented. Before then drivers were forced to lean out and clear the screen with their arms, this simple yet ingenuous invention was even before the Model T Ford, so at least the windshield wiper was all ready for the first mass production car.

When going back to those earlier cars trying to get one going was a chore, so imagine the excitement when the electric self-starter came to life? No longer did a driver have to crank the engine with a handle; it was invented in 1912, but took a further 8 years to make hand cranking obsolete.

The final automotive innovation that we cannot do without has to be the rearview mirror. This was not as important back in the early part of the 1900s, but as more cars were appearing on the roads there was more of a need to be more aware of who was driving behind you. Today more cars have cameras to help them park, and in time they may even replace the simple rearview mirror.

With Mac OS X Lion due to hit tomorrow it came as no surprise to us that an internal image from Apple would be snapped and then uploaded on a website somewhere. More often than not they do not show anything of interest, but things are a little different this time. The snap was from an AppleCare manual, which offers reinstall and recovery system details.

9 to 5 Mac explains that to begin the recovery process all you need to do is hold Command-R down while starting up. This will then take you to the new recovery mode, and from there you will then be able to restore your Mac to a date that appears on a Time Machine backup. That is not all, you can also access Disk Utility and perform a series of tasks that you would normally find when fully booted.

However, the best feature is how Mac OS X Lion users are able to reinstall the new operating system over the Internet. Both these are welcome features, but you have to wonder why this has not been made available before now? Maybe the reason is due to the fact that you will not have a physical copy, as you will have to download Lion as an app via the Mac App Store?

We cannot moan about this, as you will be getting a brand new Mac OS for just $30 – just think how much Microsoft charges for an upgrade from Windows Vista to Windows 7? We are uncertain if that figure apples to just one Mac device, then you will have to download a copy for each Mac that you have in your home or office.

There are other such utilities to look forward to in this latest version, such as being able to wipe the content from your Mac from another Mac remotely. We can see that this will become one of the standout features; we just hope that it does not become a security issue down the line.

Before you even consider upgrading your Apple Mac device to Lion there are a few things that you will need to do first. You will need to make certain that your device is all ready to go ahead with the update. The second is to go through these steps; only then are you ready to update to Mac OS X Lion.

What feature are you happier with, the remote wipe of the recovery system in boot?

Having been a driver for 22 years, I have seen the price of gas go up at an alarming rate. Things were so much easier back then, but the ongoing conflicts throughout the world and uncertainty in the markets have pushed prices up. Now more than ever we need 4 main driving tips to not only save gas but money as well.

The four main categories where you can save fuel is driving more efficiently, keeping your vehicle in the best shape, plan and combine your journeys, and finally purchase a more fuel-efficient vehicle. The first one is one of the easiest to do, and will be easy to adapt – I have. Changing how you drive can have a huge affect, so try not to speed off so fast, and try not to leave it to the last minute to brake.

If you know that you are coming up to a turning, take your foot off the gas beforehand and coast rather than brake too late and use up too much gas. Always remember to stick to the speed limits, this will have a huge affect on how much fuel you use. Over time you will start to play games with yourself to see just how much fuel you can save.

You always need to make certain that your car is fully serviced and is tuned. If you do not maintain your vehicle, then this will have an affect on how much fuel you use, not to mention about the damage that it can cause to your vehicle. Also make sure that your tires are pumped up to the correct pressures, if they are too low then your engine is having to do more work keeping the car going. We have a few more tips on this here or maybe from these 2011 government guidelines.

If you have to run an errand, try to do more than one at a time. So if you have to do grocery shopping, but then need to go for that doctors appointment, do the both when you are already out in your car. If you have to drive to work, then maybe you should see if a work colleague lives near you, then maybe you could share and take turns?

Our final tip would be to consider changing cars. Now if you only have to travel a short distance to work, then maybe you should consider an electric vehicle. However, if you have to travel that little further, then may we suggest a Hybrid or even a clean diesel.

We do hoe that these tips have been of a help to you?

With Mac OS X Lion expected on July 14th you will now need to ask yourself if your Mac is all ready to receive the upgrade? We still do not...

With Mac OS X Lion expected on July 14th you will now need to ask yourself if your Mac is all ready to receive the upgrade? We still do not have an official date, but Steve Jobs did say that it will be this month. As you may know there is a host of new features coming in the new operating system, so you had better be prepared. The reason we say this is because it is time-consuming, and it not as simple as installing it and that is it.

Apple has always tried to make these sort of upgrades painless as possible, and offering the upgrade via the Mac App Store is proof of that. No matter how many times you have done this before you always forget to do something. Mashable know this, which is why they have come up with an informative guide to the 5 steps needed before the Mac OS X Lion upgrade.

The first step is a little obvious, always check for any major software updates before installing Lion, not only for your current OS but also third-party programs as well. Some of you may have opted not to download the recent Mac OS X 10.6.8, but you need to install this, as it will prepare your Mac for Lion. We do not need to show you how to do this, as you should all know by now.

If for some reason you do not have much storage space left, then you had best clear some, as Lion will be around 4GB in total. However, you should always double that to be safe. There are a number of useful programs that can tell you what programs you no longer need. The third step is to make sure that all programs you have installed are compatible with Mac OS X Lion. We have seen on a number of occasion with OS upgrades that not everything works correctly afterwards.

The fourth thing that you need to remember is that Apple will now drop support from PowerPC Apps. This will be an issue for some of you, as some of the older applications will no longer work. However, some of the new ones will be fine.

The final step before you upgrade is to backup. Although Apple say that no data will be overwritten and that all will go smoothly, we have seen time and again this not to be true in a few rare cases.
This is easy to do, but you will need a separate hard drive to do this.

We hope that you found this advice of interest?

We thought we would have some fun with this and have a look at some of the worst gadgets, devices and products that have been released in recent years.

One gadget that seems to pop up in conversation every now and again is the Flowbee. This strange gadget is right from the 1980s and was developed to help cut your hair. It looks a little like a vacuum cleaner, and is said to be able to cut and layer your hair – well that was the theory. Just to give an idea at just how bad the Flowbee was, it was only showed on late-night commercials, you know that only about 50 people watched.

Venetian Blind Sunglasses is something else that we find useless, what really is the point? It was Kanye West who started the trend, and the only purpose they serve is to make you look stupid. You have to wonder what kind of message this spreads? Kids should be taught to look after their eyes when they go in the sun, not wear something that offers no protection at all.

Something that we could never get used to the idea of was the SodaStream, and we have recently learned that the pointless gadget is making a comeback. The main aim of the device was to give you the chance to make soft drinks at home at a fraction of the price. Now forgive us if we are wrong, but soft drinks are still cheap, and cannot see how the SodaStream will taste as nice as Coca-Cola or Mountain Dew?

Another device that never really took off was the Mini Disc Player. OK, so we know that the CD was a great invention at the time, and certainly did a number on the cassette tape, but how was the Mini Disc expected to do the same to the CD Player? The price of the Mini Disc Player itself was a huge put off for consumers, as well as the fact that there was not much support for it either.

However, the worst thing that we would like to add to our list is Google Buzz. This was Google’s attempt at taking the fight to Facebook. However, we all know that it did not work out like that but the search engine giant knows how to fight back, and Google Plus is a fine example of that.

Please add to our list.

How many times have you been in an American diner and hear all of these strange words being shouted out for foodstuff? For those who are not in the know this is called food slang. Now you could try and get someone to teach you all this or go down a much simpler route and download the “Food Slang 500” app to learn all the words and terms.

There is not much too this app, so you will not be able to learn any recipes like you can with the upcoming “Angry Bird Cookbook” app or “Cooking Tips and Tricks.” This app is very simple in the way that you get to learn phrases like what “CackleBerries” means – which is eggs by the way.

There are hundreds more like that, such as Skid grease, Elephant footprint etc. This can be a fun game to play at parties, and believe me some food slang will make you laugh. Using the app is simple, as you only need to swipe or shake your handset to get to the next common expression for food items.

The app is not only available on iOS devices, but also Android as well. The best part is it’s “Free” – cheap for a fun party game wouldn’t you say? However, the only issue with this is you have to put up with those annoying adds below the app.

Now that we are starting to look into our summer car maintenance costs, most of us never seem to take this into consideration when we chose a certain make. With money still being tight and fuel being high (although there has been a small decrease in the price of gas) we have to consider all of the factors before making that choice.

Drivers are now keeping their cars much longer for various reasons, and you should factor in the cost of how much it will be to run. So do not just look at what your miles per gallon will be compared to how much the vehicle cost is the first place. Always remember to factor in how much your maintenance bill will be as well.

Now you might get a car that is very cheap to run, such as the Nissan Leaf or even the Chevy Volt, but do we know how much they will cost to have them maintained? One would presume that they would be expensive, as there is so much new technology and not all auto repair shops will be equipped for them.

This would mean that you will have to take it to a main dealer – and we all know how expensive they can be. Please remember try not to cut corners and do the maintenance yourself, if you don not have a full history for your car then this will have a huge impact on the cars resale value.
