Electronic Arts’ golfing simulation game is due to arrive on the Apple App Store sometime this month, which according to a recent article by Eli Hodapp over at toucharcade.com could be Thursday 24th or Thursday 31st. The article also provides a few details about the upcoming iPhone / iPod Touch game.

A great new feature in the upcoming app is the ‘closest to the pin’ Facebook challenge, which is said to take place twice a week. Just like the ability to compete with friends in the Bejeweled 2 game using Facebook, players will be able to take a shot on a par 3 hole and see who can get the nearest to the hole.

The game will also include the ‘Tiger Challenge,’ which is a variety of mini-games that can earn players in-game cash. The cash earned can then be used to boost your golfer’s stats or on the entrée fee of PGA events. Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12 comes with 8 courses, 8 PGA pros to play as and 4 different game modes.

The game full title will be known as Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12: The Masters, and as you may have guessed, it will give you the opportunity to play at the world famous Augusta National golf course for the very first time.

To give you a taster of things to come before the game releases, EA has confirmed that a demo will release on the Xbox 360 and PS3 on March 8th, which will let you sample five holes from the TPC San Antonio Oaks Course, as reported by USA Today.

You’ll also be able to get a sneak peak at some of the features available in the full version of the game. And with your EA account, you’ll be able to save some of your XP earned in the demo, ready to use for when you pick up the full game.

The new feature we are talking about is caddy interaction, which Electronic Arts has called “The Caddy Experience.” The new Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12 game will provide players with an in-game caddy, who will offer explanations and suggestions on shots if need be.

Electronic Arts has also released a detailed video for “The Caddy Experience” feature, which you can view below this post. As Samit Sarkar over at destructoid.com notes, caddy interaction is more along the lines of an interface/usability improvement than a gameplay feature.

It looks like the caddy interaction isn’t the only improvement that’s been made for the Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12 game either. According to Ben Dutka over on the psxextreme.com website, EA Sports has also promised a better PlayStation Move experience with the next installment.

As Stephany Nunneley from vg247.com recently reported, the new trailers feature two courses that are featured in the Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12 game. The first trailer shows off the Augusta National course, while the second trailer reveals the TPC San Antonio course.

The upcoming game – which as previously mentioned is arriving in North American stores on March 29th and the rest of the world on April 1st – will be made available for the Nintendo Wii, the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3, which will also feature Move support.

PlayStation 3 owners will also be able to pick up a PS3-exclusive Collector’s Edition, which will feature five additional courses. You can view the two new trailers over at gamefront.com. I am not normally one for sports-related games, but this does look pretty cool to me.

According to a recent article by Tom Hopkins over at nowgamer.com, the next game will be called Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12: The Masters and as the title suggests, the game will allow players to compete in The Masters golfing tournament via the “Road to the Masters” career mode.

The Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12 game will feature the courses of the Augusta National, as well as the ability to relive classic moments from The Masters. EA Sports has also promised a new save system that will enable players to continue play mid-round, and a brand new “fast golf” gameplay mode.

Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12: The Masters will be arriving in US stores on 29th March, while European gamers won’t have access to the game until April 1st. As for the cover of the upcoming game, it appears that EA Sports has decided to drop the golfing legend from the box art.
