If you enjoy reading the news every day and you own an Apple iOS device such as an iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch, then we may have information that is of interest to you. The Guardian newspaper has recently released version 2.0 of its Guardian for iPhone app.

According to a recent article over at itproportal.com, the Guardian for iPhone 2.0 app – which is available both in the UK and US – comes with a few new features, including a new homepage design, support for landscape mode and new video content.

The app is being offered in the United States as a subscription free download, which is supported entirely by ads. The UK version on the other hand, will be offered as a subscription-based model. Customers in the UK will have to pay £2.99 for 6 months subscription or £3.99 for 12 months.

Flora Graham over at cnet.co.uk reviewed The Guardian iOS app recently, and said that it’s ideal for people who are happy to flip through the news by category or search specific topics. According to Flora, the app now allows you to stream both videos and podcasts, using Wi-Fi or 3G.

You can read the full review here, and read more information about the app via itunes.apple.com. Have you downloaded the previous versions of The Guardian app? If so, will you be updating?

For those of you that already have the Guardian app for the iPad or iPhone we have some news to bring you. There is a new update available which the Guardian are recommending that you download now as they have a new app that will be hitting the store, the new app will supersede the current one.

Sure enough on the Guardian app download page for version one they have added a note that says “This version of the Guardian app will be discontinued and replaced by a new app very soon. The app will continue to work for all users.”

An interesting fact on Guardian.co.uk about the app says that there are over 200,000 people that have already downloaded it, this is within 1 year of its launch. The reason that they gave this fact is because there were some recent issues with the app, which unfortunately coincided with the American holiday season and it took some time for an update to go through the official AppStore approval process.

The article was written by Jonathon Moore and he went on to apologise to all of you frustrated users that have had the problems and he hopes the latest update will resolve the issues. Some of you might be wondering what else the update brings. As far as I can see it includes high resolution graphics and mainly solves the previous problems. You can view a preview of this by clicking here before heading through for the purchase and download.

Jonathon also talks about the new edition of their iPhone and iPad app as well as some of the features so let’s have a look. The app is mainly based around customer feedback from the current release from the last year. The new features that will be present are a landscape reading view, faster access and updates to their live blogs, live football scores and a goal alert service, award winning video content and what looks like a new commenting system.

Onto the pricing, it is subscription based and will cost you £3.99 for a 12 month period or if you are only after 6 months it is £2.99. That seems like pretty good value for not a lot of money. An interesting point he touches on is that in the US there will be a free version, which will be funded by advertisements.

So far there hasn’t been an official date announced only that they hope to have it globally released before Christmas. From what I gathered about the new iPad version this will be coming a little later, perhaps March.

Did you experience any issues with the current app? Will you be subscribing to their new updated version? Let us know in the comments below.
