It has been a long time coming, but gamers in the US are now able to pick up the definitive version of Skyrim that they have been waiting for since launch. After seeing multiple versions of Oblivion release down the years, many opted not to pick up Skyrim at launch, in favor of a version that came with all of the post-release DLC content.

Now, we’re pleased to say that the moment has arrived, as Bethesda has launched the Skyrim Legendary Edition in the US for $59.99. Available on PS3, Xbox 360 and PC, the Legendary Edition will come with the three official expansion packs for the game, those being Dawnguard, Hearthfire and Dragonborn.

Some of you may be unhappy that Bethesda are still charging full price for this, but don’t forget that Dawnguard and Dragonborn were originally $20 a piece when they first launched. You can pick up the Legendary Edition in the US now, but gamers in the UK will have to wait until this Friday, with Bethesda pricing the game at £29.99 there.

Aside from the three expansions mentioned above, the Legendary Edition also comes with the latest version of the game, which means that you are unlikely to experience the major crash and freeze problems that plagued the launch – especially when players came into contact with water.

There’s also mounted combat thrown in there, and the recent legendary skills and legendary difficulty mode added as well. If you want our advice, you may be better getting the PC version of this, as you’ll also get access to the thousands of custom mods that are available for the game – promising endless hours of extra content that won’t be available on Xbox 360 and PS3.

Are you someone who hasn’t touched Skyrim once yet? If so, let us know if you are tempted by the $60 Legendary Edition or not.

We touched on the fact that developers are working much closer with Sony and their PS4, which didn’t happen with the PS3 and led to issues developing for the Cell processor in the early months after release. It is thought this will lead to games delivering a lot more flexible features, and some people hope nearer to what PCs currently offer.

Skyrim PC mods – my time inside the world of Skyrim is over 1,000 hours and we enjoyed playing on the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. The majority of our time in Skyrim had been on a console, although we certainly appreciated the expandability offered on the PC version thanks to mods.

The diverse range of Skyrim PC mods allowed computer users to expand the game in many ways, or even make Skyrim look a lot better with enhanced graphics. Some of the best Skyrim mods we’ve seen include SkyUI to improve the user interface, ENB Series mods for better graphics, and mods for custom weapons and armor.

Next-generation consoles need mods – we know that this idea won’t go down well with every console gamer, but considering the amount of people gaming on console rather than PC, more customization is needed for consoles in the next generation.

Elder-Scrolls-6-next-gen
Elder Scrolls 6 on PS4 and Next Xbox could be very different

Skyrim DLC will not be developed anymore but PC users will still gain access to more downloadable content through mods, which console gamers miss out on. There is a number of ways this could be made possible, but it is about time it happened and the next-gen would be the perfect time to allow more PC-like innovation to give games additional longevity.

Would you like to see mods in games on PS4 and the so-called Xbox 720? What console games would you have played for much longer this generation if they featured mods? It is fair to say some people will point out that you should purchase a PC if you want mods, although this would kill the very reason most gamers went away from a PC in the first place. Is it possible to have the best of both worlds on next-generation consoles?

At the end of April, we showed you a very cool video which demonstrated how Skyrim could be supported with the innovative new Oculus Rift virtual reality display viewer. Now, we have version two of that video, which combines Skyrim and Oculus Rift, with the addition of Microsoft’s Kinect camera for truly hands-free motioned controlled gaming.

The ending result is pretty spectacular as well we have to say. Chris Gallizzi is the developer who has made it all possible, with the video above confirming that it is indeed possible to connect Oculus Rift with Kinect, with a little tinkering around. It means that you don’t have to use a controller at all, with hand gestures now serving as your main magic and weapon use when roaming around Skyrim.

The video may look like an instant headache for some, but let’s not forget that we don’t get to see what the true perspective is like when actually wearing the Oculus Rift. This will only be possible at first-hand, but it looks like the dream scenario for those that really want a hands-free immersive experience at the game, although willing to pay a premium for it at the same time.

skyrim-oculus-rift-with-kinect

Just as a reminder, the Oculus Rift is nowhere near ready for public release yet, but some developers have early access to the product after paying $300 as part of a Kickstarter project. The video also lets you see how you can move forward on the game, simply by tilting your headset forwards. The user can also fully move around in 360 degrees without the use of a controller, while the lag when issuing commands to Kinect doesn’t appear to be troublesome either.

It’s early days yet, but are we looking at the best way to experience Skyrim in perhaps a year’s time when Oculus Rift is available to buy? No doubt Bethesda will be looking on with interest when they see this video.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim will be a game we’ll remember for a lifetime thanks to around 800 hours being spent in the virtual world, although all the rumors about a lot more Skyrim DLC coming left us a bit sad when official news came that there would be no Redguard downloadable content.

skyrim-Legendary-Edition-pc-ps3-xbox

Life after Skyrim DLC – we confirmed a Skyrim Legendary Edition would arrive earlier this month, although at the time we didn’t have any official word and June 7 had been the date from rumors. Since we published that article, Bethesda published some official details on the release date and exactly what you will get inside the box.

The June 7 release date had been correct for those of you in the UK, although our United States readers will get to own Skyrim Legendary Edition from June 4. The box will include all Skyrim DLC, which means you’ll get Dragonborn, Hearthfire and Dawnguard with an original game and patch v1.9.

Moving on from Skyrim – It is true that a lot of gamers felt upset after all the bother with the Thalmor, but then this leaves a potential storyline for Elder Scroll 6. Others feel positive now and point out they’re “excited because they’ll be working on Fallout 4 and TES 6″. Are you happy to see the development of Skyrim DLC stop?

Fallout 4 – some people get confused over who will be making Fallout 4, it is hard to believe, but to clear things up it’s expected to be Bethesda Softworks publishing and Bethesda Game Studios developing. It is worth pointing out that the time between Skyrim’s announcement and then release date had been around one year, and at the time of writing we have not had any official announcement for Fallout 4.

We first thought some news would come for Fallout 4 earlier this month, but Bethesda prolonged our wait with a tease that ended up being for The Evil Within. Since then nothing official has been announced although gamers made it clear that the USA should be the setting and not the UK. Blood and gore should stay, and our readers shared some ideas for new features along with possible mods.

Will you purchase Skyrim’s Legendary Edition, and if so will that be on PC, PS3 or Xbox 360?

We have some interesting news for those of you who are yet to play Skyrim, but have always wanted to. Unsurprisingly, we are now seeing the first details of a possible Skyrim Legendary Edition in the works. This game is thought to be on the way for a Summer release and will come packed with all DLC released for the game.

As most of you are well aware, that will only now include the three DLC expansions Dawnguard, Hearthfire and Dragonborn. This is because Bethesda has now revealed in a statement that the journey has ended for Skyrim and that they will only provide minor updates to the game from this moment onwards.

The next game on the way from Bethesda is thought to be Project Zwei, a horror survival title on the way from Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami and his Tango Gameworks studio. The Legendary Edition of Skyrim though seems like a very good package indeed and it has now appeared online on various retailers, confirming a reasonable price of £35/$54 for the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions, while the PC version will be cheaper at £29/$44.

This may seem expensive to a lot of you, but don’t forget that Bethesda were initially charging $20 a piece for Dawnguard and Dragonborn upon release. If the listing at this retailer is to be believed, then the Skyrim Legendary Edition will be available from June 7, which is just days away from the start of E3 2013.

Bethesda hasn’t confirmed any of this yet, but it would be very unlikely that we don’t see a version of Skyrim with all DLC expansions bundled. The question is, how many of you are yet to play Skyrim for this very reason? Are you interested in paying $54/£35 for a copy of the game with Dawnguard, Hearthfire and Dragonborn?

Well, we didn’t expect to see an outcome like this after all of the hype. While most of you were expecting at least one more Skyrim DLC expansion to come out, it appears that Bethesda has now had enough. The developer has written a statement on their blog, confirming that they are now moving on to the ‘next adventure’, which presumably means a game in development for next-gen consoles.

It feels like there is so much more to give to Skyrim after the release of Dragonborn, but it looks like it may turn out to be the last major DLC expansion released for the game. That means that the PC version of Skyrim with the likes of the Creation Kit and Steam Workshop is now the place to go to for hope of substantial new content to play.

In a blog post, Bethesda has revealed that they are moving on to a new adventure, but will still support Skyrim with ‘minor updates’. They have also revealed that their team has already been working on this new adventure and that it is something that requires their ‘full’ attention.

Although Dragonborn and Dawnguard were amazing add-on pieces for the game, we’re still a little surprised ourselves that they are not continuing the journey just a little further. Smaller packs akin to that of Oblivion would have still been fine in our book, but Bethesda obviously feels like the time is right to stop altogether.

At the same time, it is also an exciting prospect to think about the next project they are building. Imagine if Bethesda take to the stage at E3 2013 and reveal that Fallout 4 is on the way to next-gen consoles and PC – please make it happen Bethesda, as the whole world is waiting to play it.

What is your reaction to the news? A mixture of sad and excited at the same time? Skyrim owners, pull together on this and let us know how you are feeling.

The wait for the elusive Skyrim DLC 4 content is still ongoing. With all of the rumors going around at the moment, it looks like Bethesda are definitely waiting until E3 2013 to tell us whether the next pack will be called Redguard or not, and whether they will finally drop some official news on a potential Fallout 4 game.

Bethesda has been rather infamous as of late, by becoming a company that really won’t say anything until they really need to, calmly resisting all of the abuse and negative feedback directed at them on the likes of Twitter. It reminds us of similar tactics that Rockstar deploys with regards to GTA V news and it’s actually fair to say that both developers are at the stage where they don’t really need to say anything just for the sake of keeping a few people happy.

Pete Hines has spoken in a recent podcast over at OXM, teasing the fact that they are going to be more vocal this year with regards to upcoming game releases. Without name dropping ‘Redguard’, Hines revealed that they are going to continue with the things ‘that make them excited’ whilst also ‘releasing new stuff’ and ‘making some noise’.

They certainly made some noise during the 2010 VGAs when Bethesda first announced the game, so we have a feeling that another big event is going to take place soon to reveal not only the next DLC installment for Skyrim, but also a new Fallout game as well. In an interesting twist, we recently asked our readers which they would prefer to see next, between new Skyrim DLC and Fallout 4.

Fallout 4 was the undisputed winner on this occasion, so it will be intriguing to see which announcement comes first. A new Fallout game is obviously inevitable, but are Bethesda taking their time so it can become a next-gen title instead? Don’t forget that The Elder Scrolls Online is also taking up a portion of their time, so it really is a case of being patient here.

Hines has teased, but do you need to see some conclusive evidence soon before you lose interest? Listen to the podcast in full above through the link, then tell us what priorities you have. New Skyrim DLC, or Fallout 4 next?

Those of our readers that know The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim well would understand what the game is about, and the majority of gamers seem to be happy with what Bethesda created with the original game and also the downloadable content that followed. To date the add-ons have been Skyrim Hearthfire, Dragonborn and our favorite Dawnguard. If you spent hundreds of hours inside Skyrim, like we have, you might be thinking about a few new features you want in future content.

Strategy debate reignited for Skyrim DLC 4 – it wouldn’t be the first time we have heard gamers talk about the need for more strategy in the world of Skyrim, and some people feel that the 4th Skyrim DLC would be the perfect time to bring this to PS3 and Xbox 360 at least.

Since our last article and over the past few weeks we’ve seen some great ideas for Skyrim DLC 4, although one new feature requested recently by some of our readers would be to have the ability to become High King in Skyrim. DLC 4 could deliver this situation, it is worth pointing out no clues have been given officially just yet, but this hasn’t stopped a number of players from demanding such a feature within downloadable content.

Imagine being able to decide what direction Skyrim takes in a political manner, and our love for strategy gameplay makes this seem even more desirable for the next Skyrim DLC. It would truly offer a new direction for the game and certainly make us return for hundreds of hours again, and we bet a number of our readers would as well if they could become High King, or even another strategic element.

Do you think there is a place for a lot more strategy within Skyrim DLC 4? Would you be willing to part with money and return to this game if you could become the High King? It is worth noting there’s another side to every coin, and for every gamer that would want a lot more strategy via Skyrim DLC; you’ll also find another that would hate such an idea. You might want to read the recent Skyrim patch v1.9 notes in an earlier article if you missed them.

We finally have some good news for Xbox 360 and PS3 owners now, as Bethesda has just unleashed the highly anticipated 1.9 update on console. Previously, the update has been available on PC – adding numerous bug fixes as well as the new Legendary features and skills to the game as well.

It’s another case of better late than never though as far as Bethesda are concerned, and there’s a little twist as well to tell you about for the specific update on 1.9. Bethesda has revealed on their blog that the update is available as an automatic title update download simply by turning your respective console on with an active internet connection.

For those that haven’t read up on the 1.9 update when it landed on PC, we can tell you that the new 1.9 title update will add the Legendary difficulty setting to the game. You’ll now be able to reset skills as well with the new Legendary features, allowing you to wipe out level 100 skills, return them to level 15 but can no longer be subjected to a level cap.

That means you can keep earning experience points on your skills as you progress through the game – a move that players will ultimately appreciate once they have learned how it works. Long with the Legendary features, there is also a vast list of new bug fixes to read through, which you’ll be able to do through the Beth blog.

Some of the changes include a fix which caused Alduin to become invincible during “Alduin’s Bane”, crashes when entering the Dark Brotherhood Sanctuary and an overall improvement to general memory and stability of the game. Console players should now be able to play a much smoother Skyrim and it should keep Xbox 360 and PS3 users busy until the Skyrim DLC 4 content arrives – will it be Summerset or not?

Let us know if you have already installed the Skyrim 1.9 update and how your game is playing at the moment after the patch.

We have thoroughly enjoyed The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and the downloadable content that followed the games release, which includes Skyrim Dawnguard, Hearthfire and Dragonborn at the time of writing. When it comes to getting value for money, Skyrim has delivered and even more so when you look at the hours you get playing most other games. We’ve been hands-on with Skyrim for well over 600 hours, and we know many of our readers have spent many hours in this world as well.

Focus turns to Skyrim DLC 4 – the last year has seen most Skyrim news focused on the PS3 system, which would be due to the lack of downloadable content on this platform. It now seems the 4th Skyrim DLC has become the focus of gamers that are still playing this game.

Within the past few weeks a number of suggestions for the name of Skyrim DLC 4 have been offered, although Bethesda has offered no evidence towards what might be launching, or even if any new DLC will arrive soon. At first it seemed Redguard would be the name for Skyrim DLC 4, but now a new name has arrived in the form of “Summerset“.

This rumor landed via this forum post, which highlights the name Summerset from a screenshot found while searching Google. The forum users had quickly debunked this rumor for the next Skyrim DLC, and some even uploaded images of their own to show how quick screenshots can be forged. Take a look at the comments in reaction to this Summerset claim via the above link.

What do you think Skyrim DLC 4 should be called? Are you still playing this game, and if not what could bring you back? You might want to read an article about the Skyrim Redguard DLC mystery from the start of this year.
