At the time it was only released in the United States, but we’ve now received word that it will be making its way to the UK and Europe very soon.

According to Dan Sabbagh over at the guardian.co.uk website, Rupert Murdoch’s The Daily app will be arriving in the UK and Europe within the next few months. The app’s UK release depends on when Apple’s new online subscription model becomes available here.

Jon Miller, the chief digital officer of News Corporation, spoke at the Abu Dhabi Media Summit and said that The Daily would become available in western Europe in the not too distant future. When asked if that meant the app would be arriving in the first half of 2011, Miller replied yes.

There have been suggestions that Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp would also be creating a UK-specific edition of The Daily app, but this would possibly be in the future. The Daily has been available as a free trial in the United States up until now, but users will now have to pay 99 cents a week / $39.99 a year.

According to a recent article by Mark Raby over at tgdaily.com (sourced from All Things Digital), Rupert Murdoch likes what he has seen so far out of Google’s Android 3.0 (Honeycomb) operating system, and is now looking to bring The Daily app to Android tablets.

Although the Honeycomb operating system – which is optimized for tablet PCs – hasn’t been released yet, there are a number of Honeycomb-enabled devices scheduled to be launched this year. This of course includes the Motorola Xoom, the HTC Flyer and LG’s G-Slate.

When Murdoch first announced The Daily publication, he never mentioned anything about it arriving on Android devices. However, it wasn’t put down as an iPad exclusive in News Corps’ contract with Apple, so Murdoch is free to launch the app on whatever format he likes.

As Marc over at intomobile.com recently noted, The Daily app has received mixed reviews since it was launched. Each issue is said to take almost two minutes to download, while the app itself is said to be very disorganized and its content described as not very compelling.

The app is said to be called Livestand, and should be arriving sometime soon.

According to a recent article by Chris Oldroyd over at tipb.com, the Livestand app will provide users with news that is personalized to their location, interests and even their time of day. Yahoo! says they will entice advertisers with the app, by offering ads within its digital pages.

The Livestand application will provide users with a mix of news, finance, sports, Flickr and omg! Content. As Dan Hope over on the technewsdaily.com website recently reported, Yahoo! has described the app as a “digital newsstand” for both tablet PCs and smartphones.

There will be a difference between The Daily app and Livestand, as it appears that Yahoo’s application will allow multiple publishers to display their content within its pages. Yahoo says that both advertisers and publishers will be able to tailor their content to suit each and every user.

However, all we knew at that stage was the fact that it would be arriving within a few months.

As we previously mentioned here, we then got word a couple of weeks ago that it was due to be launched at a special event in San Francisco. The launch event was due to take place on January 19th, but obviously things changed and the event was pushed back slightly.

It now looks like the wait is almost over, as a new launch date has recently been announced. According to a recent article over at foxnews.com, both Apple and the News Corp. have now sent out invitations to The Daily’s much-awaited launch, which will now take place in NYC on February 2nd.

Both News Corporation CEO Rupert Murdoch and Apple’s vice president of Internet services Eddy Cue will be present at the February 2nd launch event, which is scheduled to begin at 11am EST. As for the pricing, Kat Hannaford over at gizmodo.com notes that it will cost just $0.99 a week.

However, we weren’t given a lot of information back then.

What we did know at the time however, was that the news application was believed to be a partnership between Apple and News Corp. It won’t be long until we do know more information, as it appears that Steve Jobs and Rupert Murdoch are preparing to introduce us to the new app soon.

According to an article over at huffingtonpost.com (sourced from Yahoo News), both Rupert Murdoch and Steve Jobs will be hosting a special event in San Francisco within the next few weeks, in which they will officially unveil the iPad only application.

The date of the event is said to be January 19th, but it could well change before then. Murdoch is said to have devoted considerable resources to the application, including hiring high-profile reporters and editors. Richard Branson recently announced his own iPad newspaper app, which is said to be called “Project.”
