Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade 2010: NBC Live Stream

Today is Thanksgiving Day 2010, and will be a day that most Americans will get to enjoy a day off, although more stores now stay open – great for some, not for others. For those with a day off many will be watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade, those who live in the New York area will be able to see the event live, although some will drive for miles to see it.

However, you can watch the parade live on NBC, and one would presume that the TV network will offer a live stream of the event online. Just make certain that you watch the official stream, and not one from a third-party source – you never know what harmful things will be put on your computer.

The event is to start at 9:00 a.m. EST today and will go on for three hours. For those of you who do not know the route for 2010, we recently gave you details of this, which can also be viewed on Google Earth. How great is it that something that started back in 1924 can manage to stay up-to-date and relevant?

For those of you who do not care much for the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, just watch the face of a young child as they watch the floats go by – then tell me that it is not worth all that effort.

Released by MEDL Mobile, Inc the app has over 1000 malls which can be found by using the GPS location feature, Google Maps will then direct you to the location of each mall. Users can browse the mall database by state, and get the address, URL, and phone number of every mall.

Each listing has the entire floor plan of the mall, and there is also phone numbers of stores within the shopping mall. The application has been designed to save time for shoppers by making it easier to find the location of the shop required, and covers all fifty states. A favorite’s option allows users to save malls and access them quickly.

Mall Maps Deluxe 2.3 is available on the App Store for only $0.99. iOS 3.0 or later required.

With social networking more popular now than it has ever been before, we thought we would ask our readers if and how they will be using sites like Facebook and Twitter this year to wish people Happy Thanksgiving.

If you will be using social networking to wish people a Happy Thanksgiving this year you do not have too long to decide what to say, obviously you can keep things short and sweet, however if you want something to say which is a bit more meaningful you should check out some of the links in the paragraphs below.

Work Emails: How many people check them over the holidays?

With the holiday season almost upon us, how much time do you spend checking email’s from work instead of being with your friends of family? A survey by XOBNI realeased today is saying that 79% of working adults in the US have received work emails during holidays such as Thanksgiving, and Christmas.

Fifty nine percent of those surveyed actually check work emails during the holidays, with 55% of those who do cheak do so at least once a day, and 28% check mutiple times per day. The male population check their emails more than their female counterparts, with 67% compared to just 50%. Of the people who received work emails 33% of them are annoyed, 15% frustrated, and 11% are resentful.

Of those who admit to checking their emails 42% of them think it helps with their workload when they return to work, with 10% who have checked emails during meals, and parties/gatherings. 19% of pople who received emails where “relieved” or “thankful” to have the distraction.

Younger workers are more likely to check their emails at anappropriate times, with 15% of the 18-34 age group admitting to it compared to 7% for the over 55.

I know what you are thinking, what has Thanksgiving stuffing recipes got to do with tech? Well that’s easy; there are a number of ways where you can use technology to your advantage to make that perfect recipe, and none more so than iOS apps. We have found a number of apps on iTunes for the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch.

The first app is called Thanksgiving Recipe by Binary Bits, and is not just about stuffing; you can also learn how to make Spiced Wine, Butternut Squash Soup and so much more. The best thing about this app is that it is free, for more details visit iTunes.

Another app is Chow Thanksgiving Dinner Coach, this is also free, but looks to be far more extensive. It is no secret that cooking any meal is a stressful process, so this app aims to relieve that stress for you. One of the main features of this app is its step-by-step timeline guide – so you will never lose where you are during the cooking process. For more details visit the App Store.

For those of you who watch the Food Network, then you can now do so on iTunes. Not only will you be able to watch this on your computer device, but also on a iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad as well.

We have also found this handy Best Stuffing & Dressing Recipes video. So you can be in the kitchen and watch the video on your iOS device while you try to recreate what you see on the screen.

Thanksgiving Kids Games 2010: Activities, Crafts and Apps

With Thanksgiving less than a week away, thinking of ways to keep the kids entertained and involved can be challenging. But help is out there with the aid of websites and applications which will get them doing all sorts of fun activities.

A free app called Thanksgiving Feast! Kids Lite, has your young children learning to count and do simple math in an entertaining way. Players have to correctly join the stars to complete the game. The app is available for the iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad from the App Store.

A website called Kaboose.com has some great printables and coloring pages for you to use for entertaining the kids. There are also some crafts which will keep them busy. Thanksgiving games can also be found on the site to keep the fun going.

FamilyFun is another site packed with some great ideas for things to do, ranging from making Thanksgiving decorations to Thanksgiving turkey crafts. You will also find recipes, games, printables, and much more.

Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade Route on Google Earth

Macy’s 84th Thanksgiving Day Parade on November 25th will see 3.5 million people lining the streets to watch this yearly event, and a further 50 million will watch the event on TV. For those of you who would like to see the planned route of all the floats, then Google Earth has it for you.

The Macy’s Parade will start at 77th Street and Central Park West; it will then go south towards Central Park West, then turning east to Central Park South. The best way to study the complete route is by visiting Macy’s website or on Google Earth here.

There is to be seven new floats for 2010, along with two new balloons. The new float themes are as follows: Dora the Explorer, a replica of Mount Rushmore and more. There is to be a tour of the parade route on Tuesday before Thanksgiving by the Boy and Girl Scout troops and schoolchildren from the area.

Using Google Earth will give you a great idea of the route rather than reading the directions, as you can zoom in and recognize a place rather than the name of the street. Turkey Recall Will Not Affect Thanksgiving

There was huge concern today when a turkey recall was announced, as U.S. citizens feared that it could affect their Thanksgiving dinner plans. Thankfully only ready-to-eat smoked turkey breast products are affected by this latest food recall, but this is still a huge issue.

It seems that these turkey products have been contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, this germ is very serious, as there is a chance that someone could fall ill with the fatal illness listeriosis. The recall emanates from the New Braunfels Smokehouse, a meat processor plant based in Texas.

According to Huliq, 2,600 pounds of this meat is to be recalled, some of the products include: New Branufels Smokehouse Sliced Smoked Turkey, the 1Ib packets and whole breast packages of Stegall Boneless Hickory Smoked Turkey Breast, the 4 to 4Ib bags, visit Huliq for the full recall list.

Each turkey product was produced on August 4, 2010, so make certain that you call the company’s customer care line on 1-800-537-6932. Food recalls seems to be getting as regular as car recalls these days, you only have to look at the recent egg and cheese recalls to know just what we are talking about.

With Thanksgiving only a few weeks away, all the worrying about having a successful meal is over with the launch of a free application. Chow Thanksgiving Dinner Coach 1.0 is available for owners of the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad.

The application has nine easy to follow recipes to help users to create a delicious traditional Thanksgiving meal. Users can choose which recipes they want to create, and are given a step-by-step timeline which guides them through the entire day (and the two days before).
