You may have already heard that Getaround has been making a success of hiring cars. Now some of you may wonder what is so different to these and the likes of Hertz etc? Well the main difference is that they offer a peer-to-peer service, so if you have a car that you do not use, then you can make it available for others. No other service would allow a Tesla Roadster rental for such a great price.

The Roadster is not the only high-end vehicle to be offered at a great price, you can also get to drive BMW’s etc. However, one would expect that the Tesla would be one of the more popular, as we can get to see how great of a car it really is. This new Start-up has been set up for two reasons, the first is obviously to make the owners money, and the second is not letting good cars go to waste.

We say this because a huge percentage of our cars spend most of their time outside our house or place of work. To us that does seem like a waste of money; just consider how much it has cost you to purchase your vehicle and how much work went into building it. Getaround hopes to solve this issue.

Could this finally be the start of something that could help get the economy back on track? More often than not people need to have the use of a car, but can never seem to find the one that they want. However, the biggest issue is with how long you would need a car for. More often than not a person only needs to hire a car for a few hours, but have to hire it for a day minimum. Well Getaround allows you to rent a car for an hour or longer at a time.

However, the longer the hire the cheaper it will work out in the long-term. Prices start at just $3 per hour, but that will not get you far with a Tesla Roadster, as that baby will cost you $50 per hour. However, that is much better than paying $109,000, which works out at 2,180 hours of rental or three months.

If you were lucky enough to buy a Roadster or any other new car, then why not let it earn money for you while it sits around all day. It is said that you could earn around $350 each month my just renting your car out for 15 hours per week. It will only take 1 minute to set up an account; it’s as easy as that so join here.

Back in December last year the Tesla Roadster’s Hertz rental deal became part of their electric vehicle program. We can now tell you that the green sports car is now available in a number of places throughout the US. There is still an issue with the price, yes you do not have to spend $109,000, but $1,500 for a day is considered to be a bit of a premium.

This is not part of the normal rental service, but Hertz Entertainment. The reason for this is that larger then average rental price tag. What makes this EV so popular is that it is able to achieve 125mph, along with a 0-60mph time of just 3.7 seconds. You have two color choices, Thunder Gray or Fusion Red and two model options, hardtop or convertible.

What makes this service even more special is the fact that you do not need to go to your local Hertz dealer, as they will deliver the Tesla Roadster to your door. Now that this service has extended across North America, it is now expected for Hertz to include it in China by the end of 2012.

We know that the numbers of these vehicles are limited, so you will only be able to rent one if you are a member. However, this is a simple process, all you need do is visit the Connect by Hertz website for all the details and choose where you are based and then the rest is simple.

Would you consider hiring a Tesla Roadster considering how expensive it is to own one?

Top Gear Sued by Tesla Motors: Do they go too far?

There is no denying how much fun BBC’s Top gear program is, and although informative there are times when they anger others. It is no secret that the show has had it’s fair share of issues when it comes to legal issue, so the news that Top Gear is sued by Tesla Motors over the Roadster comes as no surprise.

The carmaker has cited “malicious falsehood” over an episode of the show that was aired over two years ago. The reason was because when Jeremy Clarkson test-drove the Roadster he showed that it had run out of charge before the test was complete. Tesla had tried to contact the BBC about this, but according to the carmaker all attempts failed.

We do not want to offer any opinion on this issue, as it is now a matter for the courts, but it seems that salt is being added into the wounds all the time for Tesla, as people can see re-runs of the Roadster on Top gear, as well as videos on YouTube. The Tesla Roadster is said to be one of the most fuel-efficient cars on the road.

We have to wonder who will be taking aim at Top Gear next, this is not the first and will not be the last? We are huge fans of the show, but we will refrain from our opinion on this matter for obvious reasons.

Back in 2008 Top Gear got their hands on the Tesla Roadster, the electric vehicle was tested out by Jeremy Clarkson and resulted in the car being pushed into the garage supposedly out of charge, Tesla has now sued Top Gear claiming that this was malicious falsehood.

According to Tesla they supplied Top Gear with two Roadsters and both returned with a least 25% charge, if true this means that Top Gear pushing the Roadster back to the garage was staged.

The BBC released a statement showing their support for Top Gear on the matter, here is what they had to say “the BBC stands by the programme and will be vigorously defending this claim”.

Anyone who watches Top Gear knows that some of the events seen in the television series sometimes seem a bit staged an unbelievable, however doing this at the expense of a company’s flagship vehicle would not be fair, we do not know who we should believe about this matter, therefore we will have to see what the courts decide.

If you head over to Engadget you can watch a video showing the segment of TopGear which showed the Roadster being pushed back to the garage. We will keep a close eye on the matter and keep toy up-to-date as we find out more.

Do you think Top Gear are in the wrong?
