For the past year and half one of the most popular games on the App Store has been Temple Run, and at the beginning of this year the sequel was launched. This new kind of game proved very popular and as such spawned a host of clones, although none of them were able to match the original.

However, a new game is due out, which could end up being Temple Run for 2013, and that is Sonic Dash. The hedgehog is known for running fast, so makes sense to convert this franchise into a never-ending runner.

We are uncertain as to the release date of the Sonic Dash game for iOS devices, but according to a recently deleted tweet it could be from midnight, which would make it a March 7 release, although there is no date for an Android release. The price is expected to be $1.99 for the US and £1.49 for the UK market.

Because Sonic Dash is already available in New Zealand right now, it’s only a matter of time before the other main markets are able to download the game onto their iOS devices, which is why midnight is our best bet of when you will be able to get the app for yourself.

While it’s obvious that some people will say that Sonic Dash is a little like Temple Run, it’s worth noting that our blue hero was doing it long before Imangi Studios brought out their gaming app. Below you will see around 13 minutes of in-game footage from Sonic Dash.

Now before you get to excited this may be another cruel hoax, but according to the press release doing the rounds the game will be coming to the Android platform on March 27th, and will be available as a free download. This is where the confusion starts as previously the Temple Run team took to its official Facebook page to warn of all the fake versions being made available, but also mentioned they would announce the release date news there and give at least a week’s notice.

At the time of writing there is no update on the Facebook page as well as anything on any other social networking platforms such as Twitter. The game was originally promised for February but as the company stated it is taking longer than expected. Hopefully in the coming hours the team behind the popular game will update their Facebook page with all the relevant information one way or the other.

If the press release is genuine users of the Android platform have another three weeks to wait before being able to join their friends already playing the game via their iOS devices. Update: The release date has now been made official on Facebook. Are you looking forward to Temple Run?

The developers of the game have just announced a delay to the game which is taking everyone by storm at the moment, and it now means that Android users will not get to play the game anytime in February. An official statement has been made on the official Facebook page, and after reading some of your feedback it’s clear that a lot of you are not happy about the delay.

If you go to Twitter and do a search for ”Temple Run Android”, you can see some of the disappointment from other users, so it’s not just you who is going crazy thinking to yourself why isn’t there a demo at least to try out on the Android Market. Speaking of the Android Market, we’ve also spotted that there are still many attempts from some rogue developers and users to trick others into believing that Temple Run is already available to download.

Developers Imangi have already said numerous times that they will be informing users beforehand about an imminent release, so if you see constant messages on Twitter saying things like ”OMG. Temple Run for Android has just been released! Get it now”, with a link to the Android Market – don’t download it because it’s a fake.

As an Android user waiting patiently for the game to arrive – are you getting a bit fed up with the delays now? We’ve even heard some of you suggest that Temple Run isn’t even that popular anymore, but we think when the game does arrive eventually you’ll still be rushing to the Android Market to get your hands on it. The game has now become one of the most popular games on the App Store, and Android users are waiting patiently for Imangi Studios to put a version of the game on the Android Market as well. We’ve found out that Wayne Rooney is a big fan of the game, and he has used his personal Twitter account to reveal that his current high score on the game is a whopping 12.5 million points. There’s a screenshot below which he posted as proof.

As you can imagine, he is pretty pleased about his score and he has boosted about it to his Manchester United teammates asking them to try and beat it. The obvious question that we want to know is, have you got close to Wayne Rooney’s score or not?

One word of caution for Android users though, as we mentioned in an earlier report this week that there’s a few fake Temple Run apps appearing on the Android Market. Try to stay clear of those as Imangi Studios will obviously tell the world the moment their Android app goes live. As for the iOS app, it really is great fun if you haven’t tried it and best of all, the developers have now made it a free game after initially charging $0.99 for it.

A recent post on the official Temple Run Facebook can be seen here, it reveals that game is still being developed at the moment and no exact release date has been given, however contrary to this a recent article over at TechGadgetsWeb suggests that it will in fact arrive on February 9th. The guys at Imangi Studios have not officially announced this to our knowledge (we’ve checked the official website, Twitter feed and Facebook page) – therefore don’t take it too seriously for now.

Some may say that the Android version of Temple Run has taken far too long to develop, but Imangi say that they want to ensure that the developer’s first-ever Android app is solid when it arrives. We agree with this decision as let’s face it with so much hype surrounding its release its bound to come under lots of scrutiny.

Until we hear official word from trustworthy sources you should watch out for fake Temple Run apps which may show up at the Market, perhaps ‘Like’ the official Temple Run Facebook page or follow Imangi on Twitter to stay up-to-date.

Since Temple Run has hit the App Store in mid-2011 it has seen a huge amount of success, in fact when it cost $0.99 it became the top grossing app available for iOS, the free version of the app then hit the top spot in the free app charts – therefore it is no surprise to see such hype surrounding the Android release.
