If you were fearing that the upcoming Tekken Tag Tournament 2 game may suffer the same fate as Capcom’s Street Fighter X Tekken with regards to on-disc DLC, we have some good news for you.

The producer for the game Katsuhiro Harada has confirmed in a recent interview that Tekken Tag 2 will not have any DLC characters locked on the disc. Like previous Tekken games in the series, Harada confirmed that their policy is to include all the bulk content up front, and it’s that statement that is likely to put a smile on many gamers faces this week and secure their pre-order.

Speaking of pre-ordering, Harada did mention that pre-ordering the game would get you some bonuses before everyone else. He has revealed that those who pre-order Tekken Tag 2 will have early access to some characters, but unlike Capcom and other developers – Namco Bandai will be making these characters free to everyone else after a certain period of time.

Obviously this doesn’t mean that there won’t be any paid-DLC for the game at all though – we would still like to see some after release of course. However, just the fact that Tekken veterans will be able to play through the game and we’re guessing unlock the characters after completing the game is very refreshing. This is called sticking to your roots, and it’s something that many of you feel Capcom are not doing at the moment.

NetherRealm Studios are another developer who are getting it right at the moment with their Mortal Kombat reboot. They released free character skins alongside paid-DLC characters which they could have easily charged a small fee for, but they didn’t. Why? Because it gives something back to those who supported the game at launch. Capcom has a big job now in restoring their damaged fanbase, all because they got caught out by locking away content on the disc. Let’s hope that Street Fighter 5 or whatever comes next will not follow the same tactics.

Will you be pre-ordering Tekken Tag Tournament 2 after hearing the good news about DLC? Let us know your thoughts on the current state of the fighting genre.

Namco Bandai has given fans a much needed update on the status of the console version of Tekken Tag Tournament 2. It’s out on arcade machines now in Japan, but the developer has just revealed at Namco Gamers Day that the game will be available this September.

It means that by the game arrives on console in September, it will have already been out on Arcade in Japan for over a year. We were lucky enough to get a few rounds in during Eurogamer 2011 on a arcade machine, in which we were taught a lesson by some hardcore vets. If you have played the first Tekken Tag game though, this is definitely a must purchase for you as the looks better than ever with tons of characters at your disposal.

Speaking of characters, it looks like Namco Bandai will be giving something back to console gamers to somewhat make up for the delay. The developer has confirmed that the console version will feature brand new characters that are not available on arcade at the moment, meaning that on the PS3 and Xbox 360, you can expect to see more than a staggering 50 characters, compared to the 44 fighters that are available on arcade machines at the moment.

There’s also some brand new game modes to mention as well, the most notable being pair-play, which will allow four-player tag battles with four separate players. This is on both versions just to let you know, unlike Capcom’s Street Fighter X Tekken game which bizarrely doesn’t support this mode on the Xbox 360 version of the game.

Another pleasing aspect which brings a smile to our face, is that Namco has insisted that this won’t just be a port of the arcade version. They are taking their time on the game to ensure that the console version is unique in its own right, and judging by the extra characters and game modes – we’d say they’re doing a pretty good job of that so far.

If we were to make one request though, we would love to see a return of Tekken Force Mode. We absolutely loved that from Tekken 3, so if Namco were to bring that mode back in its full glory, consider us sold on this one for sure. We also loved completing the game numerous times to unlocks characters and extra movies in the theater mode, so let’s hope that Namco sticks to their roots and don’t make the game with DLC in mind.

There has been minimum details regarding a Western release for Tekken Tag Tournament 2 since the game is only out on Japanese arcade systems at the moment, but we’re pleased to say that we have a much needed release date update for when you can expect the game to drop on console.

Previously, it was initially thought that the game would only be coming to the PlayStation 3, but a recent trailer released at the Video Game Awards over the weekend confirms that Tekken Tag Tournament 2 will also release on Xbox 360 as well.

At the end of the new cinematic trailer which we have for you below, Namco Bandai reveals that the game will be available sometime during the Holiday 2012 period next year. Some additional information provided over at Eurogamer also hints that the game may be coming to the upcoming Nintendo Wii U system as well, which is great news if true.

As mentioned above, the game is already out now in Japan for arcade only and features 45 playable characters. The console version of the game however will include some console-exclusive characters and features, one of whom has already been confirmed to be Kunimitsu, a female character with a similar fighting style to Yoshimitsu who featured in the original Tekken Tag game.

For those of you who are lucky enough to own the Tekken Hybrid blu-ray on PS3, you will have a private taste of the upcoming game, since the blu-ray contains a playable demo for Tekken Tag 2, as well as a copy of the original game in HD and the Tekken: Blood Vengeance CGI movie.

How many of you are looking forward to this game coming out? I had a chance to play it in September at the Eurogamer Expo and I have to say it looks very solid indeed. Don’t ask me for a hardcore insight though since I continuously had by backside kicked by some Tekken veterans who also decided to turn up at the event. If you played the original though, this is definitely a must buy.

When I bought my original PlayStation, one game which kept me and many of my friends entertained for hours on end was Tekken 2. Since then the Tekken series has grown strong with each Sony console release and it looks like this will not be changing any time soon.

A recent article posted over at PSVitaHub.com has revealed a couple of leaked photos which appear to show Tekken Tag Tournament 2 running on the PlayStation Vita. Up until now we were expecting this game to hit the PlayStation 3 in 2012, but had never heard of any PS Vita release.

You can see the two screenshots below, on the left you can see some sort of PlayStation Vita banner running across the top of Tekken Tag Tournament 2 cover art, the image on the right seems to show the player selection screen with the option of enabling PlayStation NEAR. For those of you who don’t know NEAR is said to be the Vita’s equivalent of SportPass for 3DS and it is a location-based gift system – you can find out more about NEAR here.

It is no shock to see evidence which seems to suggest Tekken is coming to PS Vita, but we are a little shocked to see that Tekken Tag Tournament 2 seems to be the game which is coming, there is a chance that the leaked images are in fact a hoax, if not we are seriously hoping for some cross-platform play between PS3 and Vita – how about you?

It has been a while since we last heard any info related to Tekken Tag Tournament 2, but we’re pleased to say that Namco has now delivered for fans. They have just released 20 brand new gameplay screenshots of the upcoming brawler, screenshots which suggest that Tekken Tag 2 is going to be one of the highlights of 2011 for fighting fans.

The screenshots have been uploaded to AndriaSang, and you can view them in HD quality over on their website. There are 20 in total, and it gives fans a brand new look at the game, as well as seeing how impressive the visuals are looking this time around compared to Tekken 6.

While the screenshots are undoubtedly impressive, gamers are probably a bit frustrated that Namco has yet to reveal any sort of release date, or any indication what month the game will be out in the US and EU, as obviously the game will be available for Japanese gamers first.

One of the screenshots features a high quality render of Yoshmitsu, so if you’re a fan of him from previous games, check out the images over at AndriaSang to see what he looks like in TTT2 – are you digging the red attire or not?

Expect release details to come at E3 2011 in June. Let us know if the game is a day one purchase for you or not.

It has been a very long time since we last heard any details about the highly anticipated Tekken Tag Tournament 2 game, but we’re hoping this latest bit of info is the first of many more details to follow.

The game has been featured in the latest edition of Famitsu, and has been translated by the good guys over at AndriaSang. The latest news is that the game will feature a ‘stage gimmick’ system, which will allow players to use the environments to greater affect – as similarly seen in previous Tekken games.

In Tekken Tag 2 for example, players will be able to beat opponents against walls or objects featured in a particular map, and enough damage will result in a breakage of the wall or object, causing both players to fall into a new section of a map where play (and combos if you’re good enough) will continue.

Furthermore, we’re also hearing that the game will allow players to equip ‘weapons’, such as a bat or ‘hammer head’ to inflict even more damage on an opponent – sounds interesting but we hope the developers don’t over do this particular aspect.

Hopefully we’ll have more news for you soon, and a confirmation on when the game will release on home consoles, since it remains a Japanese arcade release only at the moment.

Are you looking forward to some fresh Tekken Tag action? We definitely are.

After the disappointments of Tekken 6, fans can finally look forward to a better entry in the series, as Namco Bandai has just announced Tekken Tag Tournament 2, with the original being arguably one of the best in the franchise to date.

As reported from VG247, the game only been confirmed for an arcade release in Japan next Summer, but you would bet that this will be making it’s way to the PS3 and Xbox 360 later on in 2011.

Aside from the announcement at this year’s Tokyo Game Show, the company also revealed a new trailer for the game to wet your appetites. It looks as if Kazuya and Jin will once again be two of the main characters in the game, but we also see them teaming up with Leo and Asuka respectively.

Watch the trailer below and let us know your thoughts on it. Are you as excited as we are? Personally, I love the original Tekken Tag on PS2, so I’m pumped up for this. Baek and Hwoarong ftw.
