With the popularity of Pinterest increasing the interest in an app for Android phones and tablet is also accelerating, although you can certainly find an application that works with the Pinterest service but none are official. We’ve seen a number of apps make their way onto Google’s marketplace for Android devices, which aim to look like an app wanted by users but not yet available to Android from the official brand.

This has been seen with Temple Run, a game extremely popular on the iPhone and other iOS devices, and many other useful apps found on iOS but not officially released for Android. Don’t believe the hype some journalists put on “copycat” apps, especially when they state most of them are “dangerous” because this is completely untrue. You’ll always find a rough app here and there, but most of the so-called “impostor” apps are just looking to fill a need wanted by users that the official brands are not fulfilling yet.

The media exposure for Pinterest has exploded in 2012 and this is for good reason, which those using the service fully understand the simplicity and how it makes it easy to keep interesting things online “pinned“. The service is by invite only and can be requested by going to their website and entering your email, although you should get an invite within a matter of days, not weeks.

Are you new to Pinterest and not following our Pinterest profile? Those of you using Pinterest we’d love you to like and follow us, which our boards currently include pins on some varied topics. Our Pinterest boards include one for Android, Apple, current and next-gen gaming, autos, infographics, social media, funny text messages, quotes about life, and other tech & gadgets. You can follow all our pins via this page on Pinterest or just select a board for pins on focused topics.

Users have been demanding Pinterest for Android phones in growing numbers – while we’ve seen Pinterest users grow and spend more time using the service every month, an Android app is still yet to be found. You can see the iOS version of Pinterest on iTunes here, which has had nearly 200,000 ratings at 4.5 stars, and shows the popularity on Apple devices. We’ve seen a few negative comments after the 1.4.3 update last month, and some people complain it crashes although we’d love to hear about your experience with the iOS version in the comments below this article.

Android vs. iOS popularity – while we know Apple has certainly taken the industry by storm year-on-year, but there are also an army of Android phones and tablets from many brands, so why are many app developers behind with an Android version? Can it be the process of developing an Android app is not supported as good when compared to iTunes, or is there really a bigger demand on iPhone, iPad, and iPod?

Do you want to see an official Pinterest for Android app, or have you found a really good 3rd party app? There are plenty of 3rd party apps that have received mixed reactions from users, and these include apps like “Pinterest For All“, “Pinscape“, and “Photo To Pinterest“. At the time of writing we’ve already had a number of emails asking when the official Pinterest for Android app is going to release, and there are thousands of forums also asking the same question. It seems the ball is now in the court of Pinterest and their team, although we’ll update you when the app is launched.

We’ve included a video below this article that shows you how to use Pinterest, so if you’re new to the social network have a watch to get a better idea on what to do. Do you have any tips to share with PR readers about Pinterest, if so hit the comments.

The $35 tablet has been delayed more times that we can remember, so is finally nice to see the device finally coming to market. Now that we know the specs of the Aakash (translates to sky) tablet people have been mocking the device, but should we? This is an important product for India, as most of the population want and need a tablet, but all what is on offer is just way out of reach.

Thankfully the small Aakash gadget will solve this issue, due to it becoming the world’s cheapest tablet. It will become popular with students, but where it will make an impact is with India itself, as it shows that they can make it as a technology innovator. Okay, so it’s not in the league of Apple and its iPad, but they are for totally different markets.

WSJ has been talking to those who will be manufacturing the tablet and has said that this is a device that has been made solely for the Indian market. However, things would have a different outcome if the Aakash was sold for its true $50 price, but the Indian government is subsidizing it to make it more affordable. The launch price will be around $35, but could fall yet again. Once the nation is hooked on the device, only then will the company be able to start increasing the price – but ever so slowly.

The specs for the Sky tablet are not very impressive, but they don’t need to be, as they will not have to do the kind of work that an iPad, Galaxy Tab or Xoom has to do. The 7-inch screen is resistive, Android 2.2 will be running the show, the processor has a speed of 366MHz, 256MB of RAM, 2GB flash memory and another two on a microSD card, Wi-Fi and 3G option and finally two USB ports.

So you can see that benchmark scores will be very low on this, but students and those from poorer background in India will love the world’s cheapest tablet. We have high expectations; we just hope that the nation embraces it.

It has been a long time coming, but we can now tell you that the Sakshat Indian tablet has now got the go ahead. We first assumed that the device would cost $35, but that has been increased to $50. However, once you take into consideration the government subsidy the tablet will cost just $24, which makes it Rs. 1,100.

Taking that price into consideration you are now looking at the world’s cheapest tablet – so would make it the Tata Nano of the consumer electronics world. It does seem fitting that India is able to corner both these markets, and it is no surprise. India is an emerging market, and to make things more affordable to all Indian’s these could be just the start.

This new tablet reminds us a little of the OLPC program, we would love to see something like this brought up-to-date, as the tablet is something that would be more beneficial to children in some of the poorer areas of India. The OLPC program was good at the time, but technology has changed so something new is needed.

PI is uncertain as to the specs of the Sakshat tablet, but they do have a pretty good idea – do not expect much. The processor could be the 800 Mhz ARM 11 with 256 of RAM and 2GB ROM. The size of the tablet looks to be 7-inches and even has Wi-Fi and support for 3G – although externally.

We have no idea as to a release date, and how long the Indian government will offer the subsidized pricing. See a video of it for yourself below.

We already knew that a Windows 8 tablet was coming, but we had no release date details. However, there is a little twist to the story, as Microsoft will be bringing out their own branded version. There is to be a whole range of other branded models using the new OS, but you have to wonder if Redmond will do something a little more special?

The news of this update comes from DigiTimes, who we know has been on and off with some of their reports. However, we cannot see any reason why this would be inaccurate. The release date is expected to be by the end of 2012, and early reports suggest that Microsoft will following their current branding strategy and will be a little conservative in their design.

There is a worry about this, as one would assume the company to make radical changes. OK, so we know that they got it right with the Xbox 360, but what about the Zune and the Kin smartphone, who would want to follow that strategy. Microsoft is playing a dangerous game, one where they are getting left behind in some of their most important markets.

If we are to believe the report, then the Microsoft branded Windows 8 tablet will be powered by Texas Instruments with a little help from ARM. We are not ones to choose sides here, but we cannot see Apple losing any sleep over this news – even the likes of Motorola and Samsung are unable to compete with the iPad.

How cool would it be to queue in line for the new Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, and to then be rewarded with free Ne-Yo tickets and a case? Well this is just what will be happening tomorrow, June 8, 2011, the day that the latest Android tablet is released. The big event will start at 8AM EST at Best Buy’s Union Square store.

Not all of you will be able to take advantage of this great offer, so you had best read the details, which were provided by Intomobile. Only the first 200 people to get the new larger Galaxy Tab will get a free leather case, which has a value of $29.99. Not bad for nothing, wouldn’t you agree? See more accessories in our previous post.

On top of this the first 50 buyers will also receive a free ticket to see Ne-Yo in concert. These are not your normal tickets, they are VIP; giving you greater access. This is a great thing that Best Buy is doing, and is PR at its best. What better way to draw a crowd to a release event than with a Hip-Hop artist?

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 will go on sale at 12PM EST tomorrow, and at 4:15PM there will be a live performance by Ne-Yo himself. We still have no idea as to when Samsung will release their new Android tablet in the UK, but we bet that there will not be a big crowd like there will be in New York City later today?

Yesterday Google held their I/O event, and all of those who attended received a free Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. One of those who were given this tablet learned that Samsung did not protect the device very well, and has now been rooted. They have even provided instructions on how to do this, so up to you if you want to give it a go.

For those of you who are put off by how hard it was to root the Motorola Xoom, then don’t be, as the Galaxy Tab 10.1 is much easier to do. Android Police thanks @_mrbirdman_ and the team for making this hack so simple, as it took just 15 minutes to do. Most of this were waiting for the download, so the rest will take no time at all.

There are just 6 simple steps, with the first being the most obvious, to download the Android SDK while executing adb commands. Windows users will have to install the Samsung Kies application. The next step is to open up the cmd prompt and type in a certain command, which you can read in more detail over on Android Poilce.

Samsung is on a constant mission to innovate, this is not only seen in its tablet and smartphone range, but also with their TVs – Samsung Smart TV being a fine example of this. Will you risk rooting your Galaxy 10.1 tablet device?

We have already offered details on the iPad 1 vs. iPad 2 when it comes to graphics comparisons, so now we thought it would be better explained in videos. Below you will see three embedded videos, and they all have their own take on Apple’s new and old devices. View the specs of both models.

In the first video it first looks at what’s new in the newest version, and then explains why you should upgrade. We can clearly see that the new iPad 2 is all about design, as it is sleeker and lighter than the iPad 1. In the video they put the 2011 iPad up against the iPhone 4, and you will be surprised that it is thinner than the smartphone. See more in the first video below.

The second video will help you decide if it is worth buying the new model, or saving $100 on the older model. The screens on both tablets are the same, however, that is about all that remains the same. The newer model has the much faster dual-core processor; this will give you almost twice the processing speed. Get a greater insight into this by viewing the second video below.

The final video is a speed and performance comparison between the iPad 1 and iPad 2. The first test was all about boot up speeds, and you can clearly see that the iPad 2 was much faster. This is a fantastic test, as both tablets have the same apps installed, so no one can say that a certain app is making either run slower. View the third video below for more details.

Knowing if you want to upgrade to the new version will come down to two things, do you really need a faster iPad, and can you spare the money?

The new iPad has already been suffering from shipping delays, and the likes of India now getting the device could slow things down once again. For those in the U.S. who are still hoping to get their hands on one, then why not try out the iPad2 Scanner.

All you need to do is enter your ZIP code, what color, storage and either Wi-Fi or 3G and then press scan. We cannot confirm if it works 100 percent, but looking at Walmart direct and out of stock warnings, it could well be correct. We suggest you give it a go, and see what your chances are of getting an iPad 2 soon.

Out of the five models that Walmart has for offer on their online store, there is only one available – Apple iPad 2 with Wi-Fi + 3G (Verizon, Black) – the rest are still out of stock. The issue we have with this is that fact that there are no estimated dates as to when new stock will be coming in.

As we mentioned above, India is the next country to get the new iPad 2, with the cheapest model starting at Rs 29,500. The strange thing is, this is not long after the first iPad was made available in the country. The Times of India reports that Apple has launched the iPad in another 11 countries, and those in the U.S and the U.K will now fear that shipping dates will begin to get even longer again, but time will tell.

Do you believe that shipping dates will be affected by the launch of the iPad 2 in more countries?

The Apple iPad is still dominating the tablet market even though other devices are being released. The Motorola Xoom has been available since the end of February and has been hailed by some as promising but an unpolished product. But there is mounting speculation that the Motorola Xoom has poor early sales figures.

Jason Mick from Daily Tech is reporting that Trip Chowdry , an analyst with Global Equities, believes Motorola currently has stock of 500,000 to 800,000 Xoom’s, and since launch has only sold between five to fifteen percent of the units.

Priced at $599 the Xoom has not only failed to compete with the iPad, but also cheaper Android tablets. These estimates puts sales figures at best of 125,000 units sold, or a at the lower end of the scale a miserable 25,000. Things could also get worse as the Asus Eee Pad Transformer has just been launched starting at $400.

LG are soon to release its G-Slate tablet, and later in June two new Galaxy Tabs from Samsung are due to be released. We won’t know for sure how many units Motorola have actually sold unless they officially announce it, but it’s not looking very promising. We may even see the device getting a nice discount soon to bump up sales.

Have you used a Motorola Xoom?

Knowing what are the best new tech & gadgets is a very tough question, but we do know what two should be considered – smartphones and tablets. The former has been on the market longer than the latter, but these tablet PCs have now found the momentum that was promised to us at the beginning of last year.

The two are very similar in what they do, but they still fulfill different roles. The smartphone is used as a communication device, as well as connecting to the Internet, performing tasks and playing games as well. Most tablets will not make calls, but they do all the other things much easier for two reasons – they are better for performing those tasks mentioned above, as well as faster.

We have to point out that not all tablets are faster than smartphones, not when there are certain handsets on the market packing dual-core processors and more RAM. Going back a few months there was not a huge selection of tablets on the market, but since CES 2011 computer and cell phone makers have been relentless in announcing or releasing new devices.

There are two main contendors at the moment in the tablet market, and that is the Motorola Xoom (soon to be released in the UK) and the new iPad 2 – any guesses, which you think, will sell more units? It is the same story in the smartphone market; it is basically Android against the iPhone. The former may be winning the OS market share, but that is because they have so many more devices running on the Google mobile operating system compared to the Apple, who only has one. However, the iPhone is king of the handsets, and is now close to hitting sales of 100 million since its launch in 2007.

Do you think you would be able to choose from a smartphone or tablet, or do we now need both?
