Last week you told you about the US governments moves to block the proposed AT&T purchase of T-Mobile in the US. The news won’t be well received by AT&T, but does it mean a bleak future ahead for T-Mobile if the AT&T deal falls through?

Before AT&T decided it wanted to buy T-Mobile the carrier was in a bad financial position according to an article CNN Money. Since it was offered $39 billion of AT&Ts money the carrier has been watching its sales and market share begin to disappear. There are also no network upgrades or major handset launch in the pipeline either.

If the takeover is not approved it don’t bode well for the carrier, as its owners Deutsche Telekom have been looking to get out of the US market for over a year now. The company wants to concentrate on its European operations, and T-Mobile USA has struggled to keep up with its rivals and their 4G networks.

Before AT&T made their move there wasn’t much interest in the carrier from other potential suitors, and if the deal fails to go through there may be even less chance of someone else stepping in. The legal case concerning AT&Ts takeover is expected to take a long time, and won’t help T-Mobiles current problems.

Not having a 4G network could become a major problem a couple of years down the line, but if the deal falls through T-Mobile do get $3 billion in cash plus another $3 billion worth of wireless spectrum. This may not be enough to create a 4G network but it helps all the same.

There are some though who believe that the way the mobile market is someone else may become interested. One such company could be Sprint who was once thought as a possible suitor before AT&T made their bid. But this could prove too costly for Sprint who isn’t exactly sailing along themselves, but if the T-Mobile does become available again it could at least be at a lower price.

What do you think T-Mobile’s future will hold?

The last couple of day’s speculation that Sprint would be getting the iPhone 5 in the coming weeks has intensified. Apple is looking to increase its customer base by releasing the handset on more carriers, as well as more countries. In the US the device was originally exclusive to AT&T before Verizon got the iPhone 4 earlier this year. First we had the rumors about Sprint getting the device, now T-Mobile is also rumored to be getting the iPhone 5.

An alleged source from within T-Mobile has told MacTrast has claimed the company will also be getting the iPhone 5 in early October. The source wanted to stay anonymous so can’t be guaranteed to be accurate, but it makes sense for Apple to have their next flagship cell phone on all the main carriers in the US.

It is also claimed that the iPhone 5 will be launched on all four networks at the same time, and is expected to be a big hit on the T-Mobile 3G network and provide a big cash boost. This news ties in with the rumors the handset is a dual-mode handset, and capable of working on any network worldwide. It will also give consumers more choice when deciding on a carrier to pick for the device.

AT&T are still trying to push through the acquisition of T-Mobile, and it looks as if the iPhone may be coming to the network regardless of whether the deal gets approved or not. There have been reports previously the iPhone 5 was being tested for T-Mobile’s 3G network, and customers of the carrier will be pleased to hear they are not going to be left out in the cold when the iPhone 5 is finally released.

The handset could be revealed as soon as next month regardless of it not being released until October. But at least we will then know for sure what Apple is planning for the handset and its millions of customers. Do you hope the iPhone 5 lands on the T-Mobile network?

We have some rather interesting news now for those of you that live in the United States and are possibly thinking about purchasing a new Android smartphone, as we’ve just heard that the Samsung Gravity Smart handset is coming to T-Mobile USA at some point this month.

As Ilse Jurrien over on the letsgomobile.org website recently noted, the Samsung Gravity Smart handset comes with the Group Text feature, as well as a 3.2-inch touch-screen display, which features Swype for easy text input, and a horizontal, four-row, slide-out QWERTY keyboard.

The Gravity Smart is great for keeping in touch with friends and family, as it includes integration with popular social networking websites and a full HTML Web that can be used for posting and viewing status updates. What may be disappointing is the fact that it runs Android 2.2 Froyo.

Other features include a 3-megapixel camera with digital zoom, LED flash and a camcorder for capturing videos, and the ability to pin important messages onto the smartphone’s home screen for quick reference. As George Wong at ubergizmo.com notes, it also includes Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity.

The Samsung Gravity Smart is priced up at $29 or $69 (depending on what color you choose) after a $50 rebate and a 2-year agreement. Do you like the sound of the Samsung Gravity Smart phone?

According to a recent article posted on TMoNews it looks as if three new smartphones could be headed for T-Mobile USA, at the moment details are scarce, however we are led to believe that all will be revealed at a press event taking place on June 8th.

If you check out the information on TMoNews you will see that the name of the promotion is “T-Mobile Showtime Events Featuring HTC” and takes place on June 8th at 1.00pm until 8.00pm, this means it occurs pretty much halfway through WWDC 2011.

We wonder if T-Mobile USA and HTC are trying to steal some of Apple’s thunder before they announce the iPhone 5 which may be headed to AT&T and Verizon, what do you think?

At the moment we do not know what smartphones we will see, however it looks certain that the HTC Sensation 4G will launch, other devices we may see include the Facebook-centric HTC ChaCha, the myTouch Slide 4G (aka HTC Doubleshot) and perhaps the HTC Wildfire S.

We would love to hear what upcoming HTC smartphones you would like to see announced at this event, therefore feel free to share your thoughts in the comments section below.

Many of us when we get a new cell phone just chuck the old one it replaced in a draw and forget about it. Now there is another option as T-Mobile USA lets you trade-in old handsets for a nice shiny new one.

The company has just announced its new Trade-in Program where consumers can take their unwanted handsets to T-Mobile stores, and then swap them for credits towards a new handset. According to an article by Todd Haselton of BGR, customers can get up to $300 off the price of a new phone.

The old cell phones do need to be working with an undamaged display, and be free from water damage or corrosion. To take advantage of the trade-in offer just head off to your nearest T-Mobile store where you can get a quote for you handset from a representative.

Your handset is then mailed off and you will receive a check from a T-Mobile partner, The Wireless Source. A website has been set up where you can get an instant quote for your handset; it currently offers $250 for a fully functional 16GB iPhone 4.

It is not currently known how long you have to wait for the check to arrive after sending off your old handset.

Yesterday we had a quick review of the new HTC Sensation, and last week we had speculation about the release date for the device. While that date of June 8 has not been officially announced, and it is not known if was for the version on T-Mobile in the US. But the HTC Sensation 4G must be almost here, as you can now sign up live to its pre-interest page.

The official HTC Sensation 4G page says “Instant everything, it’s almost here”. This must be exciting news for those who are waiting for the impressive looking handset. Just to recap it will come with a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, a dual-LED 4.3 qHD display, and HSPA+ connectivity.

HTC’s new Sense 3.0 will make its debut on the handset, which is the company’s new user interface that has the new home screen launcher. The body of the device is a streamlined aluminum unibody design, and the camera is an 8-megapixel device with auto focus and dual LED flash.

We told you recently about AT&T’s proposed takeover of T-Mobile USA, the deal which is said to be worth $39 may not get approval from the Federal Communications Commission. The deal will be studied by the FCC, who will want to see if it is the public’s interest.

Lawrence Latif from the Inquirer is reporting in an article, that a FCC official has told the Wall St Journal the deal may encounter problems getting approved. The official said “It will be a steep climb to say the least”. According to the official, the FCC has not even begun formally evaluating the proposed deal yet.

If the buyout gets the go ahead by the FCC it would make AT&T the largest cell phone operator in the US with 129 million users, and will also become the only GSM carrier in the country. Despite the comments a spokesman for AT&T Michael Balmoris said, “The facts will demonstrate that the deal is in the public interest”, and feels competition will continue to grow.

AT&T has put aside $3 billion to pay T-Mobile’s owners Deutsche Telekom in case the deal falls through, if not approved by the FCC. AT&T may have to wait up to a year before any decision is made though, but deals have gone through before despite FCC officials raising doubts.

Do you hope that the FCC blocks AT&T’s takeover of T-Mobile?

We reported to you earlier that AT&T have agreed a deal to buyout T-Mobile USA, and asked you if you were happy with the news. But what will this mean for current T-Mobile customers?

T-Mobile has provided some information on what the deal means for its customers. Service will remain exactly the same and customers will still receive their bills from T-Mobile. The company states the deal is being done to create big benefits for its customers, and will ensure a 4G LTE network for 95% of the US population.

It is also claimed that both AT&T and T-Mobile customers will see a better voice and data experience just after both networks are integrated. Consumers who currently own a T-Mobile handset can continue to use it as normal.

With the iPhone, T-Mobile will not be offering it in the near future and the deal is expected to take twelve months to complete. All current contract deals with customers will be honored by T-Mobile.

The two companies joining forces like this could provide some stiff opposition for the likes of Verizon, but will also lower the choice consumers have on when deciding on what mobile carrier to choose. And will it mean trouble for smaller carriers like Sprint?

Tell us what you think about the news and take a look at the poll we have running.

We already know that the Qik two-way video calling service is available for Sprint’s HTC EVO 4G, as we previously wrote an article about the hidden costs of video chat. Well now it appears that Qik will be available on another 4G network – namely T-Mobile USA.

The service will be integrated into the native address book of the Android operating system, on the myTouch 4G smartphone. It allows users to make and receive live video chats and messages via the built-in Wi-Fi and T-Mobile’s 4G network.

Customers are being guaranteed that their overall video quality will be vastly improved, thanks to its deep integration into the handsets hardware. With Qik you will also be able to share your videos with friends and family via social networks such as Facebook and Twitter.

Is this service from Qik and T-Mobile one you will use much?
