We have some slightly strange news to bring you now, as it has been confirmed that USA carrier T-Mobile are increasing the price of their flagship G2X smartphone as a result of high consumer demand – yes you did read that right before you choke on your cornflakes.

Originally available for $199, leaked inventory screenshots suggested that T-Mobile were planning to bump up the price by an extra $50 to $249, as reported from Engadget. This move has now been confirmed on the official product page for the dual-core equipped smartphone, so how do you feel?

Perhaps what will be the most annoying aspect of this for consumers, is that T-Mobile states ‘inventory constraints’ as the primary reason for their actions. Obviously this move isn’t going to go down too well with everyone.

Luckily for you, it’s not the end of the world. You can still pick up the popular handset from places like Amazon for a measly $99. We definitely recommend doing that, since T-Mobile are sold out anyway online as seen on their product page.

If you were planning to pick up a G2X from T-Mobile, let us know your thoughts on the price increase? Is this not acceptable for you, or are you not too bothered about paying $50 extra for one?

We have some exciting news for those of you with a T-Mobile G2X handset, as we have discovered that an official Gingerbread ROM is now available to download. This ROM may be unofficial technically, but the software is thought to be an forthcoming release from T-Mobile anyway.

As most of you will be well aware, the G2X shipped with Froyo, but T-Mobile has always insisted that the official Gingerbread update would be coming soon after release. At the end of April, they informed users via this status update on Twitter that the update would be coming ‘soon’, but this ROM release now gives users the opportunity to sample a taste of Gingerbread before T-Mobile get their act together and roll out an official OTA update.

The download links and instructions can be found over at MoDaCo here for those of you who are interested, as reported from Phandroid. There’s also a useful video walkthrough showing you that the ROM does indeed work fine on the G2X, but as always, you should only attempt this download if you know what you are doing and you don’t mind voiding your warranty.

If you are going to download this ROM and install on your handset, let us know how you get on. Is Gingerbread running smoothly on your G2X?

If you are already in possession of a T-Mobile G2X, or currently have one on pre-order, we have some excellent news for you. T-Mobile has just confirmed that users will not have to wait long for the official upgrade to Android 2.3 Gingerbread.

For those of you that are unaware, the 1Ghz dual-core processor ships with Android 2.2 Froyo, but T-Mobile always insisted that Gingerbread would come soon after release. It now looks like they are sticking to their word, with the following Twitter update, as reported from TmoNews:

”@thephilbert Gingerbread is coming to the G2x soon. You won’t have to wait long.”

The company also confirmed that they were already testing Gingerbread before the G2X launched, and that’s the main reason why users will not have to wait long for the update. Just how long though? We’re hoping that they are talking about a few weeks wait, rather than months.

With that good news aside, it’s nice to see T-Mobile directly responding to questions about future software updates, and it’s certainly a contrast to users of Samsung handsets who are often pulling their hair out in frustration over lack of communication about their respective updates – Gingerbread for the Samsung S for example.

Do you already have a G2X? If so, let us know your overall impressions of the device so far and your thoughts on T-Mobile’s quick response to the Gingerbread update.

A couple of weeks ago we announced that the G2X smartphone – T-Mobile’s version of the LG Optimus 2X handset – would be coming to the US carrier sometime in the spring. We have more good news for those of you that are waiting for the handset to arrive, as we’ve now got an official price and release date.

According to Bonnie Cha over on the cnet.com website, T-mobile has recently announced that the G2X will be available to purchase online as from April 15th and in stores as from April 20th. The device has been priced up at $199.99 with a two-year agreement and after a mail-in rebate of $50.

The T-Mobile G2X phone is powered by a 1GHz NVIDIA dual-core Tegra 2 processor and runs on Android 2.2 Froyo. However, as previously mentioned, it will be receiving an upgrade to 2.3 Gingerbread following its release. It also features a 4-inch WVGA display and 8GB of internal memory.

Other features include an HDMI port, an 8-megapixel rear camera, a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera and 1080p recording and playback capabilities. The device was first introduced during the CTIA 2011 event and the guys at cnet.com were so impressed with it, that they named it their Best of CTIA winner.

Do you like the sound of the T-Mobile G2X smartphone?

The last time we spoke about the upcoming LG G-Slate and the T-Mobile G2X, also known as the LG Optimus 2X, we were telling you about rumored release dates for both devices. Now we have some official news for you, in relation to pricing and release availability.

Firstly, LG has just announced the G2X officially, which is the US version of the Optimus 2X, and it will be coming to T-Mobile before anywhere else, just like the G-Slate which we’ll get on to later. The device features a Nvidia 1Ghz dual-core Tegra 2 processor, a 4-inch display screen, 512MB RAM, 8 megapixel rear camera, 1.3MP front camera and 8GB of storage which is expandable via MicroSD card.

The device will run on a stock version of Android 2.2 Froyo, with an upgrade to Android 2.3 Gingerbread already confirmed sometime after release. When can you get your hands on it at T-Mobile? Sometime this Spring according to Engadget, no word on an exact date or price yet.

As for the impressive looking G-Slate tablet, LG has just confirmed pricing for the device. It will be available for $529 USD on a two-year contract with T-Mobile, making it slightly cheaper than the Motorola Xoom which is $599 for the WiFi version, as reported from Engadget. However, that $529 price for the G-Slate also includes support for T-Mobile’s 4G HSPA+ network, and the specs are pretty impressive too – Honeycomb, 3D Camera, dual-core Tegra 2 chip, and 1080p video recording.

Again no release date for the G-Slate though, we’ll let you know once T-Mobile and LG announce it. What are your thoughts on both sets of information? Are you interested in picking up both the G2X and G-Slate? Are you happy with the $529 price point or not?

We have some good news for those of you who are looking forward to LG’s collection of impressive devices. By this we’re talking about the Optimus 2X smartphone and the G-Slate tablet, both of which are heading to T-Mobile in the coming weeks.

As it often happens in the industry, products are given different names depending on which carrier they go to in Europe or United States. The same thing applies here with these two. The G-Slate is coming to T-Mobile but you may also know it as the LG Optimus Pad.

The dual-core equipped Optimux 2X is already available in Korea, but it will be landing on T-Mobile as the G2X – not sure if we dig that name just yet. Anyway, the real news here is that we have a new rumored release date courtesy of BGR. That date is April 20th, and is apparently the date in which both devices will arrive.

Just to recap, the G2X features a Nvidia Tegra 2 dual-core processor, 3D camera and 1080p video recording, while the G-Slate tablet which we’ve been really impressed with, runs on Android 3.0 Honeycomb, has the same 1Ghz Tegra 2 processor and also comes with a 5MP rear camera and 2MP front camera.

Are you going to be picking up either device on T-Mobile? We have a feeling that the G2X smartphone is going to be very popular, what with that dual-core processor and 3D camera combo.
