The video shown over at Eurogamer.com would appeal to 2 different audiences and they are ones that you would probably never put together… the ever popular Grand Theft Auto and the world that is Super Mario Bros. GTA has always been a hit, I remember the old games on the PlayStation 1, the birds eye view and running around shooting vehicles and people, how much has that series come on? The Super Mario Brothers aren’t doing so bad either especially with the success of Mario Kart on the Nintendo Wii, easily the most addictive game I have played from the Mario Bros series. Again going back to my childhood I remember sitting for hours with friends playing the battle mode and racing against each other.

Well now these two brands have come together in one of the best fan videos I have ever seen, I especially liked the line “Toss me some shells”.

We also provided a video within the article, showing how someone linked their Kinect device up to a PC and configured it to track a wooden stick as though it was a lightsaber. Now we have news of another hack from the same guy (Yankeyan), only this time he’s used it to play Super Mario Bros.

According to technabob over at technabob.com, Kinect hacker Yankeyan has been hard at work recently and has found a hack that allows him to play the Super Mario Bros. Nintendo game, as Mario. You can see the hack in action via the video I’ve provided below this post.

Yankeyan took his physical movements and converted them into jumping and running movements for the Mario character, and created a controller-free version of the game. What do you think of Yankeyan’s hacks? What would you like to see the Kinect doing next?

There is a long list of questions and answers on USAToday, all of which can be seen here, in this post I will highlight what are the most interesting questions/answers.

Miyamoto revealed that the reason Mario wears a hat is due to the limitations with technology back in the early 80s, by giving Mario a hat they did not have to animate hair or draw eyebrows.

During the interview Miyamoto also said that the most important advance in technology was the introduction of 3D capabilities, this was first seen in the Nintendo 64 title Super Mario 64, this allowed developers to animate Mario in ways never seen before.

According to the Q&A session Miyamoto’s favorite Mario game is Super Mario World, this was released in 1993 and was the first Mario game to feature a map, this allowed stories to develop and also gave players a sense of direction.

As pictured below, the funky red version of the Nintendo DSi or DSi XL will come with some Mario sketches on the front, while the entire package will also come with some extra goodies for collectors.

Priced at 18,000 Japanese Yen ($218), the DSi XL package will consist of the console, a soundtrack CD, a special 25th anniversary edition of Super Mario All Stars for the Wii and a booklet containing the history of Mario from 1985 to 2010.

If you’re interested in picking this up, it will be available to buy on October 28th – for Japan only though. You can also pick up the standard Mario DSi (not XL) for 14,800 Yen.

Andrew Webster from Ars Technica thought that they would offer a short review of the Mortal Kombat demo, and makes a point of the fact that the game is now back to what it once was. The game is a sort of tag team affair, meaning that you will pick two fighters and then swap from one to the other mid-fight.

We already have a good idea of what characters will be returning to the franchise, Scorpion and Sub-Zero are just two, but are the most popular. The other great thing is that the button combinations is almost the same as the previous game, so will not take long to get back into the flow of defeating your opponent.

The biggest change in the new Mortal Kombat game is how it utilizes 2.5D, much the same as Super Street Fighter IV and the Super Mario Bros. Wii. This helps to add a little bit more excitement to scene, just try not to look too much at the background, as you could end up being impaled by Scorpion.
