We are fast approaching this year’s Super Bowl and just like the holiday season many retailers normally offer some great large screen HDTV deals to consumers. But it seems that the Super Bowl 2012 TV deals are set to disappoint this time round.

According to an article on USA Today savvy shoppers will have to up their game this year to find that big discounted TV. Paul Gagnon of DisplaySearch believes that consumers will be provided with a number of adverts, but isn’t sure that there will be many deals on offer.

This is because during the holiday season TV sales were quite strong, which unlike this time last year retailers are not left with a high amount of unsold units sitting in stores. Many consumers either wait for the Black Friday sales or wait until now as the NFL season draws to a close.

Now retailers are only providing more conservative sales strategies and are cutting prices less on older models. They will also be focusing on the new 2012 models that will have improved Smart TV applications and enhanced picture quality, but are likely to be at full price.

This doesn’t mean there will be no deals to be had though, and may focus more on the larger screen size. For instance from Sunday Amazon will be offering a 60-inch Panasonic plasma at $999.99, which is a price cut of $600. Consumers are being advised that over forty percent of retailers have price negotiation polices.

This news comes as some TV manufacturers have seen profits sliding in recent times with the likes of Sony and Panasonic cutting back production. There was also the news recently that Japanese manufacturer Hitachi was going to close its last TV production plant. The cost of flat screen HDTVs has dropped dramatically in recent years, but as many people have now upgraded from their old CRT sets sales good also level off.

Many consumers have seemingly shunned the 3DTV platform for now with some not liking the idea of constantly wearing glasses to enjoy the experience. We are seeing some new technologies such as the glasses free 3DTVs from the likes of Toshiba, and the large OLED screens from LG. The OLED screens though are probably out of a lot of peoples reach for now but in the coming years prices should fall.

Do you plan to get a new HDTV in the near future?

With less than three weeks between now and the Super Bowl, Sprint has put into action some enhancements to its 3G network in Indianapolis, this will help the network cope with the huge demand which 150,000 football fans will bring to the relatively small area in early February.

Sprint used Twitter to announce what measures its engineers have put in place, the tweet took you to the Sprint Newsroom and you can see a fully detailed press release for yourself here, in our article will tell you what Sprint users in Indianapolis should expect thanks to what has been implemented.

The press release states that the network is ready to deliver solid voice and data coverage during Super Bowl XLVI, apparently they have activated five COWs (Cells on Wheels) in Indianapolis, one of which is located at the University of Indianapolis NFC practice facility, another two are situated outside the Lucas Oil Stadium and the other two can be found in the Super Bowl Village. Lots of other improvements have also been made such as network capacity upgrades, iDEN site launches along with additional CDMA sites going live.

All these changes may sound complicated, but basically they all come together to ensure that if your using a Sprint device in Indianapolis during the Super Bowl weekend you should be able to make calls, send and receive text messages, access websites, use data-intensive apps and send and receive photos without running into problems. It’s nice to see a bit of forward thinking from Sprint, however we won’t know just how successful things will be until Sunday, 5 February 2012.

If you are a Sprint customer planning to travel to Indianapolis you should now be able to rest-assured knowing that your devices should be fully functional during this year’s Super Bowl, are you in Indianapolis right now? If so, have you noticed better Sprint 3G coverage?
