Since then Graco has updated their website – which we had trouble getting on – so that they can answer worried parents FAQ’s, in the hope of alleviating concerned parents.

We will not go into the nature of the recall that affects a number of Graco strollers, as Alan NG has already covered that. What we will do is take a look at some of the questions that parents might want to know the answers too, as well as what steps the company has taken to rectify the issue.

The first thing that you need to do is check to see if your stroller is included in this recall, which you can do so with this online model number checker. If your stroller is affected then you can order your repair kit online or call 877) 828-4046, the number is toll free.

Please make certain that you stop using the faulty stroller until your free repair kit arrives, more details on the safety aspects of this can be found on the Graco website.

This is caused by the hinge canopy hinge mechanism, the same problem that occurred with the Maclaren stroller towards the end of last year.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced that Graco are recalling 1.5 million Graco Passage, Alano and Spree and Strollers and Travel Systems. Details on specific hinge mechanisms can be found here.

The hinge on the canopy can cause serious injury to your child, with possible amputation or laceration of the fingertip when you are opening or closing the canopy. According to the CPSC they have received reports that seven children have placed their fingers in the hinge mechanism, the result was five fingertips being amputated and two with lacerations to the fingertip.

These strollers affected apply to ones manufactured on October 2004 and February 2008. The Graco strollers were sold at stores such as, Babies “R” Us, Toys “R” Us, Burlington Coat Factory, Kmart, Target amongst others. For more information visit CPSC or call (800) 345-4109.
