The E33 conference is creeping up on us and in the build up to it developers are doing their best to get the publicity they want for their games and consoles. Today we found a trailer for the upcoming second chapter of the game from Blizzard, StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm.

Though the new game is technically just an expansion, you can pretty much call it a new game as it is a whole full length story of its own. The trailer shows off the new chapter, sequel to the chapter that was released last year, Wings of Liberty, and continues where it left off.

It comes just in time for the E3 conference which starts Monday and hints a release could be soon. According to the article at DigitalTrends this chapter, which is the second of an expected three, is expected to delve deeper into the life of Zerg.

No word of a release has been officially mentioned as of yet but you can check out the full article by clicking the link above for more details. In the meantime why not check out the trailer for yourself below.

What do you think of the StarCraft II games so far?

If you’re one of the many StarCraft 2 fans that have been waiting to hear more information on the upcoming StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm expansion, then you’ll be pleased to know that the developer Blizzard Entertainment has just revealed new game details.

Although the reveal was mostly focused on the single player side of the StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm they did unveil a couple of multiplayer details. For example, according to Raul Valle at pixelatedgeek.com, the developer has no intention of including LAN support.

The multiplayer side will come with new maps and units, but there has been talk that some old units such as the Zerg Overseer may well be removed. It was also revealed that there will be a multiplayer beta at some stage in the future, which will run for around 3-5 months.

As for the single player Zerg campaign, this will contain around 20 missions. Players will be able to evolve their units and upgrade their skills, which Blizzard Entertainment say is to allow gamers to have their own unique swarm that may differ from the swarms of other gamers.

Fans may also like to know that Kerrigan will be a playable character on all maps in the StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm game and although she can be killed, she will respawn after a certain amount of time. You can read more about the upcoming expansion pack via pixelatedgeek.com.

Are you hoping that Blizzard reveals a release date soon?

If you’ve been waiting to hear details on when the 3 new official mods for the hugely popular real-time strategy game StarCraft II would be launched, then I think we have great news for you. Blizzard Entertainment has just announced that it has now released the new mods.

As James Orry over at videogamer.com recently reported, the three new mods – titled Left 2 Die, Aiur Chef and StarJeweled – have already been available to fans in beta form. However, Blizzard says that the final versions have been polished with bug fixes and a number of improvements.

They also feature official achievements and new avatars to unlock. The Left 2 Die mod sees players working together with a partner in order to defend their base from the onrush of the zerg infested. StarJeweled has players pitting their puzzle-solving skills against that of their opponents.

The Aiur Chef mod on the other hand sees both players and their opponents participating in a cooking race, in which they have to gather and mix exotic ingredients. Players can access the new mods by entering into StarCraft II and selecting the Features section of the Join Game interface.

Have you been waiting to play the new official StarCraft II mods?

We have some great news for those of you who still havent bought Starcraft II now, as we are pleased to confirm that Blizzard has just released a demo for the game, giving you a generous preview of what is on offer.

As reported from Joystiq, the demo is available to download now, and also has support for Mac computers. The demo won’t offer a sample of online play, but Blizzard make up for that with three full campaign missions for you to try out.

Furthermore, you’ll be pleased to hear that you won’t need to sign up for a Battle.net account to play it, so as long as you have the minimum system requirements, just download the file and you’re good to go.

You’ll find the download up at this link. Let us know if you plan on downloading it. For those of you who already have the game, would you recommend a purchase for those who are still undecided? We received a lot of feedback from you over a article which talked about the lack of content in the game – you can see it again here if you missed it.

We’re glad Blizzard has put the demo up, as although Starcraft remains a hugely popular franchise, there are still a good few who have never even heard of the game. You may have missed out on the first Starcraft, but don’t miss out on this free demo.

Let us know your thoughts after playing the three campaign missions.

We have some good news for Starcraft 2 owners now, as developers Blizzard have confirmed a release date for the new patch update v1.1, as well as a list of what is coming in the update.

As reported from Joystiq, we can confirm that the update will be landing on Tuesday 21st September, and that it should be available from 11am PT after a scheduled maintenance period.

Those of you who forked out on a NVIDIA 3D Vision display will be pleased to hear that patch 1.1 features full support for the displays. Other updates include changes to the map editor and detailed improvements to the Protos, Zergs and Terrans – head to the Battle.net website here for a full breakdown of updates.

If you are planning to play the game at 5am on Tuesday, we don’t advise it, as Joystiq states that all online multiplayer modes will be unavailable during the maintenance. From 11am PT onwards though, you are good to go with the new patch update.

How are you finding the game so far? – Still addicted?

As most of you are aware, the official reviews for the game are yet to go live on some of the biggest gaming websites on the net, but that hasn’t stopped users giving their own opinions on the game.

PR has taken a look at some of the user reviews over at Amazon, and we were surprised to see the sheer amount of negative feedback for Blizzard’s strategy based game.

The biggest problem that users can’t seem to get over, is the fact that they consider Starcraft II to be an ‘incomplete game’. A lot of user reviews have scored the game just one star out of five, stating that they shouldn’t have to pay $60 for 1/3 of the full game.

Have you played the game yet? Is the negative feedback justified for Starcraft II or not?

Just so you don’t have to search yourself, here is a few of the reviews that caught our eye –

1) I’ve been watching my friends play and occasionally get a turn and it feels like it could be a lot of fun. From what I’ve witnessed the installation and activation process is horrible and completely ruins the game. A couple people couldn’t even get it to work on their brand new systems. You’ve got to sign up for an account and have internet access even to play in single player mode and there’s no LAN play. It’s ridiculous that honest paying customers have to put up with all this nonsense.

2) So you buy a PC game for 60$… and you get a 1/3 of a game, with glitches and hitches and more ways to make money. I remember when I was excited about blizzard games… i even bought blizzcon tickets this year… I feel dirty now. Why?

3) $60.00 for this? Blizzard is treading on the loyalty of its longtime fans just for a grab for more money. Are the dumptrucks full of WoW money not getting to the office quick enough Blizzard? It seems like now more than ever ‘game’ companies are trying to squeeze every last cent out of its sheep-like fan base.

Obviously some pretty harsh comments on the game. Do you agree with these gamers or not? Blizzard are obviously planning to include more content for the game soon, so perhaps it’s best not to jump to conclusions just yet.

It has been a good few hours since Blizzard launched Starcraft II on the PC, so what are your thoughts after playing? We have heard some reports of various problems within the game – have you experienced any?

Users have been posting various problems on the official Battle.net forums, as well as places like Amazon – where the first user reviews are going live.

It turns out that the game is suffering from some installation errors for some users, although we’re not sure how widespread this is at the moment. The game is also giving out various error messages, some of which include ‘no association’ and ”Starcraft II requires a patch, would you like to install and download the patch now?”

Have any of you encountered any problems with the game during or after installation? List them all here for other users to help out.

Today is a momentous occasion for Starcraft fans. After 12 years of waiting, Blizzard finally opened the doors on the global release of Starcraft II. As most of you will be aware, reviews are not up for the game yet, we have a few details on when you can expect them.

As reported from VG247, Blizzard are holding on to the review embargo until a later date, as they want everyone to enjoy the full features of battle.net at the same time.

VG247 is reporting that reviews may go up for the game at the end of this week, at the earliest. If you search for reviews now, you’ll most likely just find first impressions of the game.

Have you downloaded it already? Let us know what you think of it so far. Once the reviews go live, we’ll be bringing you a review round-up so you can check out all the scores.

You know Starcraft II is gonna break records.

If you were interested in purchasing StarCraft II digitally we have some good news for you, Blizzard has added a download link for the StraCraft II game client, which is live now.

If you want to buy StrarCraft II digitally check out the Battle.net website, here you can log in with, or create a Battle.net account. Once logged in got to services and click “Buy StarCraft II Digitally”.

Once downloaded you will have to wait until the official release/launch date to play the game, but it is at least easier than heading down to your local retailer.

From what we can see the install is coded in way that stops you from installing it before the game’s release/launch date (July 27th), so to be honest I would consider waiting until perhaps July 26th as Blizzard may release a few bug fixes and patches over the next week or so.
