As noted by Fred Dutton over on the eurogamer.net website, the update comes with a number of tweaks and bug fixes for Blizzard Entertainment’s popular science fiction based real-time strategy sequel. This includes slight re balancing to all three of the game’s races.

After installing the latest patch, players will also notice that the default hotkey to toggle the in-game music on and off has now been reverted back to its hotkey prior to the previous Patch 1.3.0. As a result, the hotkey to display APM in the observer stat panel has also changed.

The new patch has decreased the Zerg Infestor’s speed from 2.5 to 2.25, as well as decreased the Zerg Spore Crawler’s root time from 12 to 6. Players will also discover that the Protoss pylon power radius has also been decreased. Instead of it being 7.5, it is now 6.5.

A number of known issues have also been fixed with the latest update, including he problem where Ghosts could not quickly EMP the same location and the issue which enabled players to stack air units while issuing a queued stop command before the units got to the end of their patrol point.

There is a huge list of changes that are being made to the game and the full list can be viewed here, however some of the main changes that are being made are first of all, the addition of a grandmaster league which will represent the top 200 players from each region in 1 vs 1 ladders.

Developers have made massive improvements to the Starcraft 2 Editor, some of which include new trigger actions and functions being added, improved custom map loading times custom maps. The list seems endless and the improvements will need to be known by all hardcore Starcraft 2 fans so it is well worth checking out the entire list.

It is good to see that developers still care about their games so long after the game’s release, other changes include bug fixes which fix problems with achievements and points distribution and build times and unit speed has been modified. According to a recent article by Tamoor Hussain over at computerandvideogames.com, version 1.2 will now allow players to join others in both private and public channels. The patch has also added features such as Stalemate Detection, an Extreme Graphics option and Customizable Hotkey Support.

The Battle.net features that have been added to the game with the 1.2 patch include in-game help, an option that allows you to auto-join previous private channels and an option to prevent any chat channel text from appearing in the in-game chat display.

Several areas of StarCraft 2 – which according to Jay Acevedo over at gamefocus.ca has recently been nominated for an award at the 11th annual Game Developers Choice Awards – have been improved with version 1.2, including improvements to the help dialogue’s tech tree.

As reported from Joystiq, the demo is available to download now, and also has support for Mac computers. The demo won’t offer a sample of online play, but Blizzard make up for that with three full campaign missions for you to try out.

Furthermore, you’ll be pleased to hear that you won’t need to sign up for a Battle.net account to play it, so as long as you have the minimum system requirements, just download the file and you’re good to go.

As reported from Joystiq, we can confirm that the update will be landing on Tuesday 21st September, and that it should be available from 11am PT after a scheduled maintenance period.

Those of you who forked out on a NVIDIA 3D Vision display will be pleased to hear that patch 1.1 features full support for the displays. Other updates include changes to the map editor and detailed improvements to the Protos, Zergs and Terrans – head to the Battle.net website here for a full breakdown of updates.

If you are planning to play the game at 5am on Tuesday, we don’t advise it, as Joystiq states that all online multiplayer modes will be unavailable during the maintenance. From 11am PT onwards though, you are good to go with the new patch update.

While speaking to MTV Multiplayer, Pardo said that they have always had an interest in bringing their stuff to the film or TV division, but only if they found the right partners and talented creative people.

“I think if Jim Cameron came to us tomorrow and said, ‘You want to make a ‘StarCraft’ movie?’ we’d probably sign that,” Pardo added.

Not much has been said about the World of Warcraft movie in recent times, actually, not much has been said since Blizzard recruited Sam Raimi who is set to direct the film.

Pardo says that they are “super-excited” about about the film, although it is still in story-development phase. “We were really excited about being involved with Legendary Pictures, who we thought had a really good track record with these sorts of movies that would make sense for our franchises.”

A list of all achievements can be found on the StarCraft 2 Wiki page. This includes all mission achievements, story mode achievements, exploration achievements, custom game achievements, co-op achievements, quick match achievements, combat achievements and Feats of Strength.

In total, StarCraft 2 has 378 achievements. That’s enough to keep you entertained for hours and hours on end.

We have dug up a few websites on the internet that have started to offer some video walkthroughs (here, here and here) of how some of the achievements can be earned, but you will find most of them on YouTube by StarCraft 2 players.

The 64-man tournaments that will give away $125,000 in prize money to the winner in every tournament are set to start broadcasting in late August, and will continue to do so in every month throughout the rest of the year.

These tournaments are to set the bar as a preliminary series of tournaments that are to continue in 2011, which will eventually lead up to the Blizzard Cup next December that will crown the StarCraft 2 player of the year.

We can also tell you that the MLG recently added its own StarCraft 2 tournaments to its channel rotation.

David Scammell from GamerZines reports that the reviews have come in from the likes of JoyStiq, NZGamer and three others, but we still await the full reviews from the big boys – such as IGN. This is the highest Metacritic rating for a PC game from the last five years, so has beaten the likes of The Orange Box, and the 2009 smash hit Uncharted 2: Among Thieves.

StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty is not without its issues though, Paul Yonger from IncGamers reports that players have become very annoyed at the fact that they are having an issue with saving the game and losing achievements.

The reason behind this is the fact that Starcraft 2 integrates itself with Battle.Net, and that they have been disconnected from the server during a game. This is bound to happen, we have seen it time and time again when a new game is released. You only have to look at all the trouble that Sony had with the release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

The original Starcraft was launched back in 1998 and in that time has sold more than 11 million units, so you can see why this is one of the most anticipated games for the PC. VGChartz has done a sales forecast and expects one-week worldwide sales to be over two million.

The most popular country in sales is expected to be South Korea; over 5 million copies of the original Starcraft game were sold there. The game will not only be available for PC but for video consoles as well is certain to prove popular and as we are in an age where computers and the Ineternet is much faster than it was 12 years ago – this will certainly help bump up sales figures.
