For those of you who have a bit of money to spend over the busy shopping period and are in need of a new USB flash drive for your important work and leisure files, you may want to consider a new SSD-based key drive which LaCie has just announced.

As reported from Engadget, LaCie has just announced, unveiled and released their new USB 3.0 Fastkey which promises to transfer your 4GB worth of movies faster than you can boil the kettle and make a cup of tea.

LaCie’s Fastkey can deliver speeds of 260MB/sec, and it comes in storage capacities of either 30, 60 or a whopping 120GB. However, as nice as this thing looks, it will all come down to price in the end, and at either $149.99, $249.99 or $479.99 depending on which size you want, they don’t exactly come cheap!

Take a look at the press release over at Engadget, and let us know your thoughts on this SSD USB Key. They are available to buy now at LaCie.com.

We have some good news for consumers looking to move towards SSD drives but are holding off at the moment due to high costs, as one article we’ve read explains how SSD drives may become more mainstream in standard PCs throughout 2011 and into 2012.

As reported from Reuters, we could see a shift in manufacturers opting to use SSD drive storage as opposed to hard drive storage, due to consumers eventually coming to the idea that SSD tech could be more beneficial to them.

At the moment, SSD drives are the premium option for new computer buyers, but this could all change once price cuts are enforced over the course of next year. Of course, SSD drives are widely used by clued up consumers, but at the moment, it seems as if Apple are the only big name company to support the use of SSD drives more so than they would a HDD.

According to Reuters, Samsung, Intel and Toshiba have all invested billions of dollars to ensure that production on SSD drives remain healthy and stock numbers are kept high to meet increased demand from consumers.

What are your thoughts on the current state of SSD drive technology? Do you prefer it over using an HDD? If so, is it only due to the fast boot-up times, or do you have other reasons? Take a look at the full article over at Reuters and let us know your thoughts on this.
