With just two days to go until the release of the HTC EVO 4G on Sprint, we have some interesting news on the first impressions of a recent speed test carried out on the 4G network. Not all owners of the EVO 4G will benefit from 4G, they will have to make do with 3G speeds for now – but how much are they missing out on?

That is certainly a great question – one that Mark Sullivan from PC World has been looking into. Armed with a HTC EVO 4G smartphone he headed off to 6 cities that offer Clearwire’s WiMax network, which as we know delivers 4G data speeds. More information on WiMax coverage roll-out can be seen in our recent post.

While connected to a 4G service, Sullivan did note that the EVO 4G was no game changer – yes it was fast, but it was not revolutionary. Sprint states that the new Android handset will offer speeds between 3 mbps and 6 mbps, with an occasional boost to 10 megabits per second. However, the test only showed an average of 2.5 mbps. If this is the case, then AT&T and T-Mobile have nothing to fear with their upcoming efforts.

Mark Sullivan tested the HTC EVO 4G for two days and in that time Sprint was never able to break the 3mbps barrier. If this is the case with all handsets then we have to wonder what the big deal is? Visit PC World to get a detailed review of these tests.

Are you still eager to hear more details about HTC’s latest handset, the Sprint EVO 4G? Of course you are. We have another video hands-on review for you to take a look at now, direct from CTIA Wireless 2010.

The video review comes to us courtesy of PhoneDog, who managed to spend some quality time with the device, as well as get a quick chat with some HTC officials who kindly parted with the EVO for a few minutes.

We get a great look at the gorgeous screen, while there is also a mention for the kickstand on the back, which seems to have slipped under the radar. It will allow you to view your videos and media without having to hold the device – which is always nice.

Judging from the video, the interface is looking very slick, and very responsive on the finger. The EVO runs Sense UI combined with Android 2.1, then handles all data operations with WiMax (4G) – so it certainly packs the best features around at the moment.

It is out in Summer, no word on price or date yet. Watch the video below and let us know what you think.

For those of you who are still impressed with what you saw following the announcement of the HTC EVO 4G phone from Sprint, we have an interesting article for you to read now, which has labelled the EVO the ‘new iPhone killer’.

The article comes from the Daily Mail, who have given us a brief review on what is featured within the EVO 4G handset. The main feature is obviously the stunning 4.3-inch display screen, but another excellent feature about the EVO, is that it can also be used as an internet hub to connect up to eight other devices.

What other features could justify the ‘iPhone killer’ tag though? Well it has an 8 megapixel camera, with separate front camera, HD video recording, 1ghz Snap Dragon processor and also runs on the newest Android 2.1 operating system.

Being 4G, data speeds are considerably higher than what is currently offered with today’s 3G standards, so in actual fact – the HTC EVO does have a lot of strong points when compared with the iPhone.

Will it be really be an ‘iPhone killer’ though? It is due out this Summer – we still dont know what Apple’s plans are, so we will have to wait and see. Let us know your thoughts on this.

As most of you will be aware by now, HTC and Sprint dropped a bomb last night at CTIA Wireless, by announcing the EVO 4G smartphone. It packs some incredible specs, but we are wondering how much customers will have to pay for it?

One thing is for sure – Sprint and HTC didn’t hide away from telling us just what the phone is capable of. The main highlight is the stunning display screen, while the 8 megapixel camera and HD 720p video recording will be a main selling point for many consumers.

What we didnt get any details on though, is the all important price. I don’t think Sprint customers will be too surprised though, when the carrier slap a huge price tag on the phone. Lets not forget that the EVO is the first 4G-capable handset to release in the US, so I think the handset warrants a ‘premium’ price.

Do you agree or not? What do you think is an acceptable price for the phone?

We have some great news for Sprint customers looking to pick up the recently announced HTC EVO handset, as Sprint has just released some lovely official product images over on their website. We have collected them and uploaded them here for your viewing pleasure.

Despite being announced just hours ago at CTIA Wireless 2010, we already have given you a lot of info regarding the handset. Firstly, there was an initial hands-on from Engadget, followed by the release of a hands-on video taken by the guys at Mobile Crunch.

For some consumers though, there is nothing better than some old fashioned high-res screenshots. Take a look at the collection below. If you want to view them in even higher quality, head to Sprint’s website here.

We dont know about you, but we are pretty excited about the announcement of the HTC Sprint EVO 4G handset. We were all expecting to see the ‘Supersonic’, but in actual fact, I think ‘evo’ is a much slicker name – a perfect fitting for the first 4G handset to release in the US.

We have the official video promo from Sprint to show you now, which gives you a great preview of some of the phone’s main features – just in case you missed the announcement at CTIA Wireless 2010.

Once again, Sprint ask you the question: What can you do with 4G? Well the obvious answer is the EVO. We have a feeling that this phone is going to set the standard for smartphones now, at least until the iPhone 4G is announced.

Are you still bothered about the HTC Incredible or Nexus One on Verizon? You should watch the video, you might change your mind. Let us know your initial reaction to the EVO.

We hope so, as we have a great hands-on video to show you now, some would say its pretty ”Incredible”.

The hands-on video comes to us courtesy of Mobile Crunch, who have managed to spend some exclusive time with the device live from CTIA Wireless 2010 in Las Vegas.

The video gives you an exact idea of just how big the display screen really is. The fact that this beauty can churn out HD videos and recording with ease, and will have superior data features thanks to Sprint 4G WiMax, it only leaves us wanting more.

Check out one of the first videos below, we’ll bring you more as we get them.

We all assumed that the HTC Supersonic would be announced today at CTIA – well we were right that the device was coming, but we all got the name wrong. The first 4G WiMAX handset from Sprint is called the HTC EVO 4G, and will be released in the summer 2010.

Engadget has managed to get some hands-on time with the new device and states that it is the best handset they have seen when it comes to specs. They begin by saying that it is obvious that is has descended from the HD2, but with Android OS running things, the experience is a whole lot better.

This first WiMax 4G handset comes with a large 4.3-inch display and the ever-popular 1GHz Snapdragon processor. The 1GB of memory and 512MB RAM is more then enough to keep things running fast and smooth.

The addition of an 8-megapixel camera as well as a 1.3-megapixel front facing camera offers user that little bit more. Android OS 2.1 is running things; this is complemented with HTC’s Sense UI.

All these features are great, but it is the 4G technology that really sets the Evo apart from other handsets. Looks as though the Google Nexus One and even the iPhone has some serious competition on their hands.
