C7 Corvette Stingray, preliminary performance

There are so many cars that were a huge hit at the recent Detroit Auto Show, but if you were to ask many proud American’s they would say that the Chevrolet C7 Corvette Stingray stole the show – not all of them but a huge percentage anyway. It was so nice to see an iconic car brought up to date, although the car is going to have some very tough competition, one of which will be the 2014 Nissan GTR.

The idea of these two vehicles going side-by-side in a shoot out does seem a little strange when you consider that they are aimed at two different markets, it’s good to get a perspective at just what we can look forward to seeing. However, there are one or two issues that could go against each model, which could give either the upper hand.

First up we have the 2014 Nissan GTR, the first issue we have is that we do not have performance figures just yet, but we do know that 3.8-liter V-6 twin-turbocharged engine, which will produce 545 horsepower. However, we have to remember that each of these engines are hand-built and will only go into one certain gearbox also made for each specific engine, so each car will have a difference in horsepower. Compare this to the C7 Corvette Stingray, which comes with an LT1 6.2-litre V8 producing about 450 horsepower. So on paper the GTR has more power to call upon, although the GTR does have a weight disadvantage with 3887 pounds compared to 3300 for the C7.

2014 Nissan GTR preliminary performance

While the C7 does have the advantage of being lighter no one can argue that the GTR is an out and out racer, which is just pure technology. If we had to compare it to a jet fighter it would have to be a Eurofighter Typhoon, because it needs the computers in order to function, without them neither can do what they are meant to do.

While one would presume that the Nissan would be a better car on the track because of how well we know Japanese cars like to perform on the race track when compared to American models, but we cannot wait to see these two go side-by-side in a track shoot out.

The biggest issue that the 2014 Nissan GTR has going against it is its price, just a fraction off $100,000, whereas the C7 Corvette Stingray is to cost half that. If you had the choice, which of the two would you choose?

Affordable luxury cars for 2011: Alternative models under $30k http://www.product-reviews.net/2011/06/09/affordable-luxury-cars-for-2011-alternative-models-under-30k/ http://www.product-reviews.net/2011/06/09/affordable-luxury-cars-for-2011-alternative-models-under-30k/#comments Thu, 09 Jun 2011 00:35:08 +0000 Alan Ng http://www.product-reviews.net/?p=133902 At the start of the year, we gave you a list of a few motors that are considered by auto critics as ‘affordable luxury cars’. Now though as we prepare for a hot Summer, we have a list of alternative models that you may be interested in picking up on the cheap.

We say cheap, but the models we’ve picked out are all available for under $30,000. Some of you may feel this is still expensive, but for a luxury car we think it’s very reasonable, and you’ll find out why with the first model.

The Acura TSX is available to buy now, priced at approximately $29,890. The first hint of luxury on this one is a a voice-controlled navigation system, while you’ll also be impressed with a 2.4-liter, inline four-cylinder engine that can churn out 205 horsepower.

If that doesn’t take your fancy, maybe you want to consider the Cadillac CTS which is available for the slightly cheaper price of $29,660. The 2007 model runs on a 2.8-liter, V6 engine that offers 210 horsepower and it’s main luxurious feaures are the sport-tuned suspension, XM(R) Satellite Radio and OnStar features such as hands-free calling and navigation services.

If you are interested in viewing a few more alternative luxury cars for 2011 including a Mercedes Benz under $30,000, head to the report over at Askmen for full details. If you have purchased what you think is a luxury car, let us know how much you paid for it, and what features it comes with.

Top Car Insurance Mistakes: Consumer Advice for 2011 http://www.product-reviews.net/2011/04/28/top-car-insurance-mistakes-consumer-advice-for-2011/ http://www.product-reviews.net/2011/04/28/top-car-insurance-mistakes-consumer-advice-for-2011/#comments Thu, 28 Apr 2011 10:15:12 +0000 Alan Ng http://www.product-reviews.net/?p=128920 Choosing the right car insurance deal for you is often a very stressful situation since consumers are often ill-advised or don’t do enough research or preparation to ensure they are not losing money. We now have a list of the top car insurance mistakes to tell you about, and some tips which you can learn for the future.

The biggest mistake that consumers make when choosing car insurance, is the fact many car owners only choose one quote from a company. Obviously, if you’re looking to save money you need to research a collection of different insurance companies so you can choose the right quote that’s best for you.

Another common mistake is that the lowest price on a particular quote doesn’t always reflect the best value and service. To avoid this, you should always compare prices with other company just so you have a back-up plan.

One more factor to take into consideration when choosing car insurance, is the fact that most companies do not offer a rental car facility, so always double check with your company to make sure this feature is included or not before commiting to any long term contracts.

You can view some other insurance mistakes via this article at CarInsurance. Alternatively, there’s a useful article over at Autos which lists more tips to help you solve your car insurance problems. Let us know if you have had any issues dealing with companies in the past.

How to Customize your Car: 2011 Tips http://www.product-reviews.net/2011/04/17/how-to-customize-your-car-2011-tips/ http://www.product-reviews.net/2011/04/17/how-to-customize-your-car-2011-tips/#comments Sun, 17 Apr 2011 10:26:36 +0000 Alan Ng http://www.product-reviews.net/?p=128137 We have some good news for those of you who are looking for how to customize your car this year, as we have found an excellent guide for you to read online which will ensure that you yourself can take the steps necessary to building your own dream car.

One guide which we have picked out specifically on this topic, comes from EHow, as they have listed eight detailed steps on how to achieve a custom vehicle similar to the results you often see on popular MTV show ‘Pimp my Ride’.

Firstly, they state that the first step in customizing your car should be looking at how to improve your wheels or tires. This can be achieved by adjusting the size of them, and of course deciding on your very own choice of rims. Be prepared to pay for your custom gear though, as tire upgrades will start from around $2000.

After you have decided what tires you want, you’re free to customize to your hearts content on the interior body, and exterior design that you want on the back – if any. Other suggestions include window tints, body kits, LEDs, lighting, exotic audio systems and the option of installing grilles on your motor.

Check out the full article over at EHow for more help on this. Have you recently customized your car? If so, was it an easy task and how much money did you spend on it?

Two-Door Cars: Two New Models to Own in 2011 http://www.product-reviews.net/2011/04/11/two-door-cars-two-new-models-to-own-in-2011/ http://www.product-reviews.net/2011/04/11/two-door-cars-two-new-models-to-own-in-2011/#comments Mon, 11 Apr 2011 13:06:38 +0000 Alan Ng http://www.product-reviews.net/?p=127776 We have some good news for those of you who are planning to buy a new two-door car this year, as we have a list of the latest models for you to choose from, as well their relevant prices. Most of the vehicles on the list are sports cars as you might have guessed, but there are a few other standard motors that you may be interested in too.

One of the most popular two door sports cars is the Audi TT – a model which most of you will be familiar with. However, the original model is fairly outdated now, so you may want to consider the newest model, the 2011 Audi TTS which is available to buy now for around $47,000 – $50,000. Features include automatic transmission, a 3.2-liter V-6 engine and a top speed of 155 mph. You can also choose from the Coupe or Roadster version of the TTS.

Another two-door car which you may be interested in is the 2011 Tesla Roadster, which will probably only interest those who have money to burn. Available at a starting price of around $109,000 – $128,500, it features a full 288-hp electric motor, rear-wheel drive, lithium-ion battery pack and modified front and rear styling. However, one disadvantage of buying one of these, is that you’ll have to pay around $11,000 to replace the battery – having said that, if you have over $100,000 to blow on a new sports car, $11,000 is likely to be monopoly money for you.

You can view a full list of two-door cars for 2011 over at cars.com here. Let us know what you think of their choices, or if you have a recommendation to share with us.

Most Popular Cars List for 2011 http://www.product-reviews.net/2011/03/31/most-popular-cars-list-for-2011/ http://www.product-reviews.net/2011/03/31/most-popular-cars-list-for-2011/#comments Thu, 31 Mar 2011 10:12:38 +0000 Alan Ng http://www.product-reviews.net/?p=127140 Earlier on we brought you a list of some of the most expensive cars, and also a list of cars which cost the most to insure, but now we have a list of the most popular cars for 2011. Do you have any idea which vehicle is going to be top of the list?

There are actually a few lists since there isn’t an ‘official’ final list as such, but we have a feeling you won’t argue with the decisions too much as the models that have been chosen are considered to be the cream of the crop, both for 2011 at the moment, and also popular models thoughout 2010.

For example, Yahoo Autos have a very useful system going at the moment, where they list the most popular cars for 2011, based on reader’s hits each week which they accumulate into a table. Based on this weeks rankings, the 2011 Chrysler 300 is the top sedan, the 2011 Dodge Challenger is the top coupe, the newest Audi R8 is the top convertible and the 2011 Toyota Sienna is the most popular van at the moment.

If you are looking for some of the most popular models for 2010, you’ll find this list over at Cars.com useful. Top of their list is the Honda CR-V, and the starting price for it is $21,695 – you can check out a full overview on this model here.

For yet more opinion, we couldnt leave you without pointing you in the direction of another great list over at Popular Mechanics, where they have listed the top 2011 cars and trucks, based on their opinions – the 2011 Chevrolet Volt gets a special mention in their article.

Check out all the information above, then us know if you agree with the lists. If not, share your recommendation with us below.

Most Expensive cars and Insure Costs http://www.product-reviews.net/2011/03/31/most-expensive-cars-and-insure-costs/ http://www.product-reviews.net/2011/03/31/most-expensive-cars-and-insure-costs/#comments Thu, 31 Mar 2011 07:54:26 +0000 Alan Ng http://www.product-reviews.net/?p=127138 We have a treat for auto lovers now, as we have a list of the world’s most expensive cars, and also a list of which cars are the most expensive to insure. You’ll probably already guess which car is the most expensive street model since we’ve mentioned it many times already, but there are definitely a few surprises in store.

There are actually a few conflicting reports which you need to be aware of. Many auto sites list the Bugatti Veyron as the most expensive car at $1,700,000, but a visual top ten 10 over at Forbes highlights the Koenigsegg Trevita as the world’s most expensive at a staggering $2.21 million USD.

Third on Forbes’ list after the Bugatti Veyron sport is the Pagani Zonda Cinque Roadster at $1.8 million. A Lamborghini naturally has to make the list at some point too, and the Lamborghini Reventón Roadster definitely wouldn’t look out of place in a Batman movie.

You can view the full list over at Forbes here. That conflicting list we told you about is available over at TheSuperCars.

Now onto the subject of which cars are the most expensive to insure. We’ve picked out an excellent guide courtesy of AOL Autos for you to check out, they have listed 20 models, which they believe are the most expensive to insure. Models include the Mercedes-Benz SL-Class, the Land Rover Range Rover and their most expensive, the Nissan GT-R with an average insurance premium of $2533 – nasty.

Alternatively, we’ve picked out another list over at Mainstreet, which selects the motors which are both the least expensive, and the most expensive in their opinion. According to them, the most expensive vehicle to insure is the Mercedes SL65 AMG and the least expensive is the Toyota Highlander.

Check out all of the lists and let us know what you think about them – any surprising choices?

Fastest Sports Cars in the World: 2011 List http://www.product-reviews.net/2011/03/22/fastest-sports-cars-in-the-world-2011-list/ http://www.product-reviews.net/2011/03/22/fastest-sports-cars-in-the-world-2011-list/#comments Tue, 22 Mar 2011 08:41:46 +0000 Alan Ng http://www.product-reviews.net/?p=126093 If you currently have money to blow and are thinking of getting a sports car, or you’re just interested to know for the sake of it, we now have a list of cars which are considered to be the fastest sports cars in the world for 2011. Any guesses as to which car is number one?

We have a list of 10 vehicles to show you now, and the entries on the list include a few motors which you are bound to have heard of if you’re a fan of fast sports cars. On the list provided over at TheSuperCars, the number ten ranked car for 2011 is the Porsche Carrera GT.

The Carrera GT has a top speed of 205 MPH and can reach 0-60 in an stunning 3.9 seconds. While it certainly impresses in the style department (it’s a porsche come on!), perhaps the downside is it’s price as you’ll have to pay around $440,000 to take one home.

Alternatively, number five on the list is the McLaren F1, which is slightly faster than the Carrera GT with a top speed of 240 MPH. It comes with a BMW S70/2 60 Degree V12 Engine with 627 horsepower, but the price is probably out of most people’s reach at a staggering $940,000. We love the design on this one, perhaps not a fan of the orange color though.

We’re going to skip to the top of the list and we can reveal that unsurprisingly, the Bugatti Veyron is still the world’s fastest sports car, with a top speed of 267 mph and the ability to reach 0-60 in a mindblowing 2.5 seconds. Good luck trying to pick up the newest Super Sport version though, it will cost you a cool $1,700,000 if you can get your hands on one somewhere.

Are you surprised that the Bugatti Veyron remains the fastest sports car in the world? You can view the top ten list in the link above. We’ve included a video of the Super Sport Bugatti Veyron for you to watch below.

2012 Nissan GT-R Problems Following Review http://www.product-reviews.net/2011/02/17/2012-nissan-gt-r-problems-following-review/ http://www.product-reviews.net/2011/02/17/2012-nissan-gt-r-problems-following-review/#comments Thu, 17 Feb 2011 11:57:38 +0000 Peter Chubb http://www.product-reviews.net/?p=122224 We cannot believe that it has been six months since we last discussed one of our favorite cars, but we were shocked to learn that the 2012 Nissan GT-R has problems. Having just had a full test-drive review it seems to have a few issues with not only its brakes but also dual-clutch gearbox.

Michael Harley from Autoblog does explain that the sports car is back with a vengeance though – so it is not all bad. Most reviews look at all the good stuff, such as power and handling, but we thought it only fair to point out what problems there might be first. So how bad are they?

As you may remember from our previous article looking over the specs of the Nissan GT-R, most things have been upgraded, including the brakes. However, it seems that if you push the car to the limit the brakes will begin to suffer. After spending some time going round a circuit slowing down and speeding up you will find that if you power down a straight and press the brake pedal hard it seems to take an age to come to a stop.

That’s not the only issue, the dual-clutch gearbox system with its paddle shift does a great job, but Harley does point out that it does lack eagerness when you demand it. This is certainly not good news for an out-and-out racer, but we should not dwell on the bad points, as the 2012 Nissan GT-R has so much more to offer.

If you are looking for something a little special compared to the racing version, then how about the 2012 Nissan GT-R VVIP Edition. You can clearly see by the images over at Drive Arabia that the interior has a more luxurious finish, but it is the customer personalization that makes this version extra special.

Do you think that the issue with the brakes will put you off the 2012 Nissan GT-R?
