There are those who would argue that the PS3 Trophies reward system is not as competitive as Microsoft’s Xbox 360 achievements – we thought we would try to offer more insight into this so have found a great article from Lynda Mc Donald on Bright Hub. She explains in detail why the latter is more popular than the former.

Both systems rely on success and offering something for the player – they need to help promote a certain something to the player – it is this that keeps them interested. The sad fact is Mc Donald believes that PlayStation 3 Trophies does not offer this one key feature.

Being able to compare achievements is very important to the gamers – Xbox 360 allows this but the PS3 does not, as you need to exit the game to do so. Microsoft was very clever when developing achievements – allowing gamers to look at these in mid-game adds more competitiveness to those gamers.

Xbox 360 gamers have a much fairer system with achievements, as it is available for every game – the same cannot be said for the PlayStation 3 Trophies. Sony has to change it at some stage if they have any hope of competing with achievements – Sony came late to the party with this and they will now have to play catch-up.

As most of you will be aware by now, Sony has issued a firmware update to the Playstation 3 console, adding future support for 3D gaming features, along with a significant update to the trophy system.

As taken from the EU PS Blog, PS3 owners are now able to sort groups of trophies together in both the ‘trophy collection’ and ‘comparing trophies’ sections.

While its safe to say that a fair amount of you will see this as another pointless update by Sony, regular users of PS3 trophies should be pleased with the update.

Update 3.30 will also allow you to list your trophies by date, titles and groups, while you can also sort your trophies in the friends list when comparing with someone else.

What are your thoughts on the new features? Do you like the new system or not? Full details over at the Blog.

When playing a Sony PS3 game, there is nothing better than seeing a trophy icon appear on your screen. This gives you a feeling that you have achieved something great in the game, well you do want some reward for all those hours spent in front of your TV.

Some trophies are harder to get than others, but this is all part of the appeal and adds some excitement to gaming. Those hard trophies are not for the casual gamer, you need to be someone who loves to step up to the challenge, but what are the five most difficult to obtain?

PlayStation Lifestyle thought that they would take a closer look at this, but you will be surprised at the results.

The first of the five is WipEout HD: Beat Zico (Gold Trophy). In order to obtain this, you will need to either equal or beat the lap time of 30.82 seconds using Piranha on three tracks, Anulpha Pass Speed Lap, Venom. Most would admit that this is very hard to do.

The next trophy that is hard to achieve is Call Of Duty World At War: Hardened War Hero (Gold Trophy). To get this you will need to complete the game in Hardened or Veteran difficulty, this has to be in solo only.

The next is Bomber – Get 15 bombs, according to PlayStation Lifestyle this will take hundred of hours of game play, not sure how many people would want to play it that much.

Bioshock: I Chose the Impossible (Gold Trophy), you will need to complete the game in Survivor difficulty, oh did we mention that you cannot use Vita-chamber. The final difficult trophy to attain is Fight Night Round 4: XXL (Gold Trophy). You will need to win the heavyweight championship belt while playing the world championship mode online.

Have you been able to achieve any of these trophies?
