Recently we told you all about the lack of exciting changes which firmware update 4.00 brought to the PlayStation 3. Our readers were disappointed by this to say the least, however there are some other changes which have been spotted by the guys over at JustPushStart.

Now before you get too excited we must point out that there isn’t anything which will blow your socks off, in fact most of the changes relate to preparing the PS3 for the PlayStation Vita release.

Ever since the “great PlayStation Network outage of 2011″ took place Sony has taken security more seriously than ever before, this new firmware update allows you to further enhance privacy settings so that you can choose whether you want to receive a friend request or friend message from someone you don’t know (this will also affect your profile on the Vita). Another thing to mention is that when you start-up your PS3 after applying the update there will be a new health warning, gamers with epilepsy should pay attention to this.

As mentioned in our previous post you will be able to back up Vita data with your newly updated PS3, however we can also confirm that by going into System Settings you will be able to delete the backup data. Whilst we are talking about the Vita we can also mention the fact that if you buy PS Vita applications on the PlayStation Store they will show up on the XMB under Game Menu. Fans of the PSP’s Remote Play feature will be glad to here that the update prepared the PS3 for Remote Play for PS Vita (available via Remote Play Settings).

Two very minor changes include the ability to now choose the UK English language option and a new PS Plus icon which has been added to the XMB.

Have you spotted any other unannounced changes?

Since the PS3 was hacked one would assume that Sony would be trying to develop something to counter this. We do not know how true this is, but we have reason to believe that PS3 firmware update 3.60 will be banning systems; that’s according to SlyGamers.

When Geohotz cracked the PlayStation there was mixed reaction from users. Those who are out to save money did not care, but most who would much rather do things the legal way are angry that jailbreaking the console could cause games to increase in price.

SlyGamers believes that they have the proof that firmware v3.60 will ban Jailbreak PS3’s due to a phone call that was made to Sony Australia. We will not add the video below, but if you want to listen to the phone call, then you will have to visit the source website.

The caller, who obviously has a jailbroken PlayStation 3 was told in no uncertain terms that he can expect his system to be banned from PSN. This is a lot like the move that Microsoft done with it’s Xbox 360 on Xbox Live. We still do not know if this will happen or not, but it is not impossible.

Do you believe that PS3 Jailbreak Systems should be banned from the PlayStation Network?

Previously we brought you the news the hacker who managed to get a $3,000 payout for his custom drivers as well as some downgrade support for the 3.42 and 3.50 editions of the PS3 Jailbreaks. Now we are bringing you some information about the 3.50 software being hacked with a USB dongle.

According to Techtree.com there is a new exploit on the block is running from the USB X3MAX, Nachiket Mhatre also says that the hack is significant because unlike any other PS3 exploitations it was run on a test PS3 of Team X3 without downgrading it.

With this exploit you can still run the latest PS3 games like Medal of Honor whilst connecting to the PSN with the added convenience of running a homebrew system by USB. At the bottom of the article there is a video that shows you the USB in action.

Have you seen this in action before? Would you be interested in getting one for yourself? Let us know in the comments below.

Earlier this morning Jamie Pert informed us that Sony had made PS3 Firmware Update 3.50 available for download. I have yet to download the update – something to do with my PlayStation 3 not working anymore. However, we know that millions of you would have already updated your system, so we now await to here what problems you have been experiencing.

We know that the firmware version v3.50 adds the ability for Blu-ray 3D Disc Playback, so we are certain that there will be a few teething issues with this. It does not matter how much planning and developing Sony do, something always goes wrong with an update like this – so will require a small update in the coming days or weeks. More details on the update from the PlayStation Blog.

We are not certain how smoothly the new Facebook Integration feature will go, we will need to wait until PS3 titles can fully support this. The idea of gaining access to Facebook user’s profiles during a game will hopefully work from the get-go, but we all now how these things can go horrible wrong.

Have you downloaded PS3 Firmware Update 3.50 yet? What problems do you have, if any?

Sony PS3 firmware update 3.40 is now available for download and comes with PlayStation Plus. It is hoped that this latest update offers the most complete entertainment experience yet, and with a connection to your Facebook account it is not hard to see why.

We spoke a little about the new PlayStation Plus feature recently – with many users wondering what they will get for the $50 yearly subscription. All you need to know is that you will have access to new beta games before anyone else, as well as free game downloads per month.

This is not the only important feature in this latest update; there is Photo Gallery, Video Editor & Uploader, Five Star Rating Support and new Power Save Settings. Looking back it shows that this is one of the best updates yet, but do you agree?

If you have not turned your console on this morning, then you had best do so now. Once you have downloaded PS3 firmware update 3.40 please share with our readers what you think.

Whenever you think of a PS3 update, you would imagine that new features would be added – not so with Update v3.21. The reason is because Sony decided to remove third-part OS support, such as Linux. This is becoming a recurring thing now, having features taken away from us.

PlayStation 3 Slim users will not miss the other OS feature, as they never had it in the first place – this has been done for security purposes. So you now have a choice to make – will you download and install the update or leave it as long as you can before being forced to do so?

If you were thinking of not updating, then the upcoming custom firmware release could be an option. George Hotz AKA Geohotz, the person who hacked the Sony PS3 will is looking for a safe way to keep this feature on the console – get more information on this here.

A few days ago we reported that Sony were to release PS3 Update 3.21, we would like to inform you that the firmware is now ready to download. OK, so we know that it is Aprils Fools Day, but it is no joke. Although most of you will agree that the removal of Linux OS is a prank.

Many of you will think that Sony is playing a joke, as this update has no new features – instead choosing to do away with one, the ability to install other operating systems. This only applies to older PlayStation 3 consoles, as the feature had been removed from the PS3 Slim.

Sony said that they have done this to prevent piracy and hacking. When gamers heard about this news they had assumed that it was an early April Fool’s prank – how wrong we all were.
