As the frustrating situation with the PlayStation Network continues to inconvenience gamers other areas of online aspects are being discussed. This is no doubt due to a fear of a situation like this happening again, and those who are pleading now for the downfall of cloud have a worthy case.

Those that have trusted cloud computing companies with keeping personal data safe as they did with Sony PSN are now fearing that is not necessarily the case and want to avoid a similar catastrophe from happening.

In the article at InfoWorld there are arguments for both going with cloud computing and also reasons why not. Jay Heiser is Gartner cloud security analyst says although cloud ‘have done a good job of convincing customers that there data is safe’ it may not be the case.

The article goes on to say that just because one company failed with taking the necessary security steps doesn’t mean it will happen again. They use the example of laptops still being used despite past security breaches.

You can read more about the situation by clicking the link above where you will also find more arguments as to why going with cloud may not be the same as the PSN. What do you think of the situation? Will you be having second thoughts before giving over data to major computing companies now? Let us know in the comment below.

If you’re familiar with Dungeon Twister, then you might like to know that Hydravision – the developer behind the Funky Lab Rat game – has just announced that they are currently working on an a video game adaptation of the fantasy-themed strategic board game.

According to Ben Jones over at psnstores.com, Dungeon Twister: The Video Game – which is heading to the PlayStation Network at some stage – will follow the same two-player formula as the Dungeon Twister board game, which is fairly well known in the world of board game players.

Each player will take control of a team of eight adventurers, who are rapped in a dungeon and are trying to escape first. Each of the adventurers will possess their own special ability, with some being able to throw fireballs while others will have the ability to walk through walls.

Although the upcoming video adaptation hasn’t been given a release date as of yet, we will keep our readers informed when we do hear of one. You can view a number of Dungeon Twister: The Video Game screenshots via the psnstores.com website, and view the trailer below this post.

Are you familiar with the Dungeon Twister board game? If so, what are your thoughts on a video game adaptation?

We have some rather important news now for those of you that live in Europe and own either a PlayStation 3 or PlayStation Portable, as Sony has just confirmed that the PlayStation Network will unfortunately be down as from 4:05pm (GMT) today for scheduled maintenance.

According to Mike Jackson over on the computerandvideogames.com website (via EU PS Blog), gamers will still be able to play online games during the said time, but only if they log into their PlayStation Network account before the scheduled down time is due to begin.

However, during the down time, which finishes at 3am GMT on Thursday, March 10th, users will not be able to log in to the PlayStation Account Management, register a new PSN account or access the PlayStation Store via the PlayStation 3 or PlayStation Portable.

Sony also confirmed that players will be able to continue collecting in-game trophies during this time, although they won’t be update on your profile until the PSN is up and running again. The scheduled maintenance has only been announced on the EU PS Blog at this stage, so we assume the US PSN will be unaffected.

Although Sony has confirmed the scheduled maintenance, there has been no word on what exactly it involves. Were you thinking of going online later today?

A few weeks back we provided our readers with a trailer and several screenshots for the upcoming Ridge Racer 3D game. This was followed a couple of weeks later by Namco Bandai’s announcement that it was working on yet another Ridge Racer game, which they revealed as Ridge Racer Unbounded.

Now it appears that the publisher has yet another release in the pipeline, with reports coming in that Namco has just revealed the upcoming release of the PSOne classic, Ridge Racer Type 4. According to Liam Martin at digitialspy.co.uk, the game will be arriving on the PlayStation Network sometime in March.

The game – which according to JC Fletcher over at joystiq.com was originally released back in 1999 and went on to become one of the best racing games available at that time – features eight tracks, two-player split-screen and 48 unique vehicles with over 300 possible car variations.

As noted in the joystiq.com article, the Ridge Racer Type 4 game will be made available for the PlayStation 3, PSP and PSP Go. Vehicles will be able to be tuned for either drift or grip-style racing, depending on the player’s preference. No specific release date has been given at this stage.

Are you a Ridge Racer fan? If so, will you be downloading the PSOne classic?

Previously we spoke to you about an update hitting your PS3 and this was the addition of the ITV Player and 4OD, well the update is here and the new streaming players are available for your viewing pleasure.

Now you can keep up with all of your favorite TV shows including Misfits, I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here, Coronation Street, X-Factor and of course, one of our personal favorite… Jeremy Kyle! You will never miss an episode of the best soaps again. You can read more about the additions over at Sony PlayStation’s official site here.

The media players store online up to 30 days worth of programs that you can view any time which is great news for all of you that lead such busy social lives. There is no firmware update to load it into the interface, all we did for mine was turn on a PlayStation 3, connect to the PSN and then checked on the TV icon on the XMB and low and behold there they were. We are wondering what will join the PSN next?

Will you be taking advantage of the new players? Have you had any problems getting them? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

Following the Sony PS3 fiasco which is now known as the ‘ApocalyPS3′, we are hearing numerous reports that some of your trophies are not coming back straight away, despite Sony confirming that everything had returned to the way it was.

While it is clear that a lot of your trophies had gone missing during the downtime, most, if not all should have returned last night. Luckily, Sony has issued a statement, in which they explain how to get your trophies back.

The method PS3 users need to follow is this: ”To resolve this issue, the user will need to re-access the game to reinstall the trophies, then exit the game and sync their trophy collection to the server in order to regain previous achievements.”

Have you lost your trophies? If so, its a good bet that this tip above will help sort the problem. We’ve created a poll to find out just how many of you are suffering from this problem. Give us your feedback.

[poll id="93"]

As we informed you late last night, the PS3′s Playstation Network has resumed full operation and all is well with ‘fat’ owners around the world. But what really caused the meltdown? We have a detailed analysis for you to check out, from those guys at Digital Foundry to explain what ‘really’ went wrong for Sony.

As most of you will be aware, the issue was caused by a miscalcuation by the PS3′s internal clock, which assumed that February 29th would take place. Of course it didn’t, and chaos soon followed, resulting in no online and offline play, trophies and game saves disappearing – concluding in the whole thing being labelled as the ”ApocalyPS3”.

Digital Foundry has pinpointed that a small hardware problem within the older PS3 SKU’s was to blame, identified as a small ARM Syscon CPU – which was later confirmed to have known issues dealing with leap years.

Out of a total of 11 different Sony PS3 SKU’s, eight of them were affected by the bug, leaving only those with Slim models unaffected.

While everyone is glad that the problem is back to normal, most feel that Sony could of handled it in a better way, providing more feedback to users, who obviously felt that their life was indeed over.

Check out the full article over at DF for a full breakdown. Let us know if you have any opinions on what happened.

Yesterday millions of classic PS3 owners were unable to connect to the PlayStation Network, however just over 9 hours ago Sony announced that the problem had been resolved, we are now hearing exactly what caused the problem.

According to Sony’s official blog the problem was a bug with the internal clock, this bug wrongly assumed that 2010 was a leap year, therefore thought yesterday was February 29th instead of March 1st.

Apparently by changing the internal clock from February 29th to March 1st the problem was resolved, lets hope the PS3 doesn’t think 2011 is a leap year!

Is everything working for you?
